By far one of the most delightful treasures you will find in Tacoma. Excellent staff. Great service and incredibly genuine. Make a reservation. I was new in the area and they were very helpful in helping me locate their place of business. Its an adorable shop & very clean too! Street parking wasn’t bad at all.

I purchased a groupon with Ehrin for split end treatment and it was the most amazing salon experience I have ever had. She was so compassionate and loves country music and I don’t mind! I can’t wait to be a regular customer of hers!
I was really concerned about my hair going in as most people are intimidated by how much have I have but she was a complete professional!

Su is amazing. She has a sweet, fun, easygoing personality, knows her stuff. Cute salon, good people.

STELLAR! I had an appointment with Ehrin for a facial and it was way more than I expected! I’ve had facials at other salons and they were just really «in and out». No relaxation. However, Ehrin really went out of her way to make me feel relaxed and welcome. The products smelled great, the music and room were soothing, she even took the time to explain the products to me and the effect they would have on my skin! In addition, she added a foot massage which really helped me relax. I went back two weeks later for another one.. .and two weeks after that.. .etc.. . My skin not only looks great but it FEELS AMAZING. Thanks Ehrin!

I don’t think my facial was worth $ 40 — it ran short, the exfoliation stung my face quite a bit, and overall wasn’t particularly relaxing. I hate writing poor reviews, especially because Ehrin was a very nice and knowledgeable lady, but I was very disappointed, especially because I am a student so $ 40 is a splurge for me!
I have used a Groupon for a massage here before, but was not impressed with that either. The ambiance is not spa-​like, and I felt underwhelmed by the whole experience — both in relaxation and quality of the massage.
I have had a much more enjoyable, holistic spa treatment experience at other locations in the area, so unfortunately I personally would not recommend HM for a facial.

Katrina is AMAZING at my hair & Andrea ROCKS at my lashes. They are the best. The owner Su is also sweet as pie. Great place with good prices and great results.

I have been a client of Su’s for 9 years. Su is amazing! Cannot say enough good things about her.
Su is extremely knowledgable and talented. She does the BEST lash extensions. She is fast and skilled. I cannot believe how much my friends pay elsewhere, and how incredibly long someone else takes, two hours on average. Su does a full set in less than an hour. They last for 3 – 4 weeks, if you follow Su’s instructions.
Su also does the best Facial ever! I travel all over the county, and work occasionally pays for spa services, yes really :) Anyways, NO expensive salon in any city does a better facial than Su.
My Mom has had permanent make-​up with Su. She is very happy with that as well. Her only regret is waiting so long to get it done.
I highly recommend Su at High Maintenance Salon & Spa in Tacoma. I live in University Place, and followed Su to 6^th Ave when she moved the Spa. I trust Su implicitly with all my spa needs/​wants.
If you are hesitating scheduling a visit, don’t!

I hate to review an entire salon based on the performance of one employee (Andrea); but since I decided to go to this one based on Unilocal reviews, I feel it’s only fair to offer a word of caution here based on my experience. I got an eyebrow waxing from Andrea, which she did well, during which I mentioned to her that I needed to get my hair trimmed before my baby was born since we had a newborn photo session just days after his birth. I wanted long layers, and Andrea said she had a lot of experience with this kind of cut and that it is her favorite to do. So I booked a second eyebrow waxing, bikini waxing, and hair cut a couple of weeks before my due date. The eyebrow waxing was fine. The bikini waxing made me bleed. And the hair cut was without question the absolute worst of the handful of bad haircuts I have had in my life. When she finished the cut, I was clearly unhappy with it since there was an obvious layer that didn’t taper into the others and she had taken easily 5 inches off the total length. She encouraged me to go home and play with it, and if I was still unhappy she would be happy to fix it. The second I looked at it in the mirror at home, I knew it had to be fixed. I initially called and scheduled to have her fix it. But when my sister looked at the cut, laughed, and told me not to think the person who did that to my hair could fix it, I called Andrea and left a message canceling my follow up appointment and requesting a refund of the cost of the haircut since I was going to have to go to another salon to get it fixed. I got a voice message from her saying that she stood by her work and didn’t think the cut was that bad. So I stopped by the salon during my lunch break to show her what she was standing by. She agreed that it was a bad cut, and I let myself be talked into giving her a chance to fix it since I was already there and she didn’t have a client at that time. She sat me in the chair, turned it so it was facing away from the mirror, and basically began to rake thinning scissors through my dry hair, which actually hurt, nervously humming the whole time. A coworker tried to give her a tip as she was working, and she got defensive. When she finally turned me to face the mirror after a good 15 minutes or more of this, I almost burst into tears. My hair was now at shoulder length (initially almost to my waist) and the layers framing my face were jagged and uneven, with one side above my jawline. She could see that the two sides were uneven and went to start hacking away at my hair again, but I stopped her since I needed to leave some hair on my head for the stylist at the other salon that I was clearly still going to have to go to in order to get this even greater mess fixed. Andrea clearly knew that she should have refunded me for the cut since on the walk toward the front desk she said that she had never had to refund anyone before so didn’t know how to do this and whether she should write me a personal check or what. I found this to be incredibly unprofessional. I was on the verge of tears I was so upset, so I just left without the reimbursement. Fortunately, the gal at the other salon I went to was able to fix the layering issues in the back, but the face framing layers couldn’t be fixed without taking the total length up to a length that was too short for my face. So I will have this memory every time I look at my family photo with my newborn son. Obviously, I strongly do not recommend getting a hair cut from Andrea, and I will never return to this salon for services.

I don’t normally give 5 stars to any business but this one was a no brainier. I came in today to get an eyelash extension with Su and I am so impressed. She is so nice and friendly and I couldn’t be happier with my eyelashes! The hour went by so fast I barely noticed it! Will definitely be returning here!

No, it’s not the swankiest salon ever, but I don’t enjoy overly trendy places anyways. I had a set of eyelash extensions applied by Su, she is the greatest. The hour flew by with us chatting and before I knew it I had perfectly placed, beautiful lashes. Su is the owner of the salon, and you can feel a family vibe from the moment you step in. I never once felt uncomfortable or unwelcome. I am definitely going to be back and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Su to anyone. Thanks!

Andrea cut and colored my hair and did an amazing job. She took the time to talk to me and find out what I was looking for and then took my suggestions and gave me the perfect Summer look. The salon has a fun and funky appeal that makes it an overall enjoyable experience. Will definitely book again.

I purchased a Groupon for eyelash extensions. I was concerned that if get a less than adequate service due to the low price I paid. However, Andrea was awesome. She was welcoming and nice. She made me extremely comfortable. She gave me a full set in an hour and they look stunning! I couldn’t be any happier. I will return to her for future services and highly recommend her to all m friends.

I had a Groupon so this was my first time visiting the salon. Ehrin did a great job on my hair and gave me some great at-​home care tips. She was very easy to talk to and had some great music playing in the background. I can’t wait to go back!

I had a hair appt with Ehrin today and I have to say I was highly disappointed! They name of the salon isn’t very fitting! My hair was done mediocre at best! First off Ehrin was extremely weird like she wasnt mentally present… She kept on sayin she was having anxiety and its just made me feel uncomfortable. It was the weirdest experience I’ve ever had getting my hair done! Im not sure if she was having a bad day but she did not seem focuses on doing my hair! It was as if she jus wanted to get done and over with .
Also I thought I was receiving a deep conditioning treatment that’s was goin to replenish and make my hair soft. I don’t feel that was optimally done! My hair didn’t feel any better and honestly she doesn’t wash hair good enough. My scalp was not even massaged. In addition Nothing was explained. I didn’t even pay for the flat iron groupon I paid for the twist out but Ehrin was so spacey she just did whatever. and honestly my flat iron wasn’t even good. My roots were still nappy in the front! I will save my $ 30 next time and do my own hair.
Also I feel like she did a sloppy job trimming my ends. She proceded to tell me that I didn’t have any relaxed ends on my hair before she cut it. This was obviously not true as I have grown my hair out and I know where I am at with my transition! After she said that I know I could not trust he judgment. And that she didn’t have a good understanding of the care natural hair needs or for transitioning customer. Sorry will not be going back! I think their name of the salon needs to be changed to Below Par beauty salon!
lastly I heard her lie and say tell the front lady to reschedule a patient due to «car trouble.“Not ok… Did they not know I heard everything! Very tacky n distasteful !

Worst haircut I’ve had in years! I look like I got in a fight with a lawnmower. I told the girl I wanted just a trim and she took off 6 inches. I’m a licensed stylist myself, and I can honestly say I’m positive this stylist had no idea what she was doing. She told me she would keep it long in the front with longer layers. I left looking like Mrs. Brady from the Brady Bunch but with random long strands scattered through the back.
She just kept on cutting and cutting. She even turned the chair away from the mirror and said I wasn’t allowed to see it yet.
That’s when I started to really feel nervous. You never turn your client away from the mirror while cutting. It’s like the stylist is trying to hide something.
She mentioned the surcharge for having thick hair, and told me because my hair would be «easy» she would charge me less. she also told me she wanted to just cut it dry because she «went to a dry cutting Asian hair school»??? Now call me a pokey Midwesterner, but where exactly are these dry cutting Asian hair schools? Is that even a real thing or.
I wish I knew the girl’s name, but I do know she has long hair with a really terrible brassy ombré.
The salon itself is cute, but for the love of your hair please, please, PLEASE go somewhere else! In fact, you can get a much better cut at Great Clips for a fraction of the cost.
A good cut will grow out in 4 to 7 weeks. A bad cut can take up to 14 weeks or more to grow out. This will be a summer long grow out project. :(

I was scheduled to get a partial highlight with Katrina, but got canceled on me in a voicemail 45 minutes before the appointment. This wouldn’t have bothered me if I wasn’t taking the bus all the way there. I didn’t find out it was canceled until I got there, which was pretty lame. Katrina did apologize for the incident and offered me 30% off my next appointment, so I do respect her for taking accountability. So then we scheduled a partial highlight that emphasized my balayage well. Overall, I can say that the service here is honest and well priced for the amount of skill that Katrina has as a hair stylist. Also, the atmosphere is very comfortable. Their appointment reminder system is a favorite of mine.

I would actually give zero star rating (if it was possible). I had a lash appt last week and apparently they needed to cancel… unfortunately, they werent even polite enough to call and let me know! As a new client, this is pretty much the WORST service you can get… have to give 2 thumbs up to Sassy Lashes near the Tacoma Dome, though. they fit me in last minute and did a great job!

I have been seeing Su for my experiments with Spa time for the past few months. It all started when I found a random Groupon for a wax and booked the appointment, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I’m still adjusting to being a grown-​ass woman, so I’ve dabbled with various waxes and a facial. I could have written a review after my first appointment, but a) I’m forgetful and b) my experiences have only gotten better the longer I’ve been going. Maybe I’m just new to the whole facial thing, but I walked out feeling like a million bucks after that and the semi-​massage. This place always has good vibes and you can’t help but smile when walking in.
Su is so sweet and charming, and hilarious too! She is very personable and makes a huge effort to make sure I’m comfortable. The other staff have been great with scheduling/​rescheduling appointments with me, and they are never overbearing about upselling or committment, which is great for me since my spa time is a luxury I can’t always guarantee. I love their online scheduling option too, and the text reminders are also helpful for me.

Im from CA visiting WA and needed a lash fill for my lash extensions. Im VERY picky when it comes to salons (i need to have everything perfect and no shortcuts. to the point that my sister is nervous to go to any salon with me). I found Su with High maintanance salon on Unilocal,and decided to give her a try. Best decision I could’ve made. Unlike the last place I went to get my lashes done, it was completely pain free, my eyes werent burning from the glue, the lashes looked AMAZING. In addition, SU is so pleasant. She definately met my high standards Theres no one in WA I’d go to besides SU. I highly recommend her!
