Tacoma Little Theatre

97 years… yep — NINETY SEVEN YEARS Tacoma Little Theater has been here. I’ve not been to a play in a great many years at this theater until tonight — but what a show it was! And trust me — we won’t be strangers again any time soon to TLT!!! Tremendous production of the classic «A Christmas Story» based on the Jean Sheppard classic… just amazing set design, direction, acting, and overall production!!!
Why go to Seattle «for Theater» with a production level like this right here in Tacoma?
Great value — great venue — friendly staff — reasonable prices — SUPERB production in every way… what’s more to like? The rotating stage was AMAZING!!! THREE sets, all in perfect isolation from each other — as the stage turns in perfect ¹⁄₃ circles… and never mind the amazing effect of adding the «Santa Stage» as a 4^th stage — how in the heck did they fit all that in over the «School House» set and remove it without anyone in the audience being aware? Just blew us away… amazing skills on display with all of this — kudos to all the crew behind the scenes who made all that happen — to us in the audience, it was pure magic!
We hope to see many more productions here now that we know «what it’s like at TLT today»… wow!

Why drive all the way to Seattle to see a play when we have a nice venue in our own back yard? Skip the traffic, the parking costs and the exorbitant ticket prices and come to the TLT. I have seen numerous plays here over the past five years. Some of them were stock, some of them were brand new plays. All of them were enjoyable. For a current ticket price of $ 24, you would be hard pressed to find a better deal, and if you sign up to get email updates, you can sometimes get two for one deals or half price deals. The theatre itself is a nice size for the venue. The lobby and restrooms could be larger, but they are clean, neat, and functional. The lobby serves beverages (including wine and cocktails) and snacks before the show and during intermission. The theatre is located near Wrights park on the north end of Tacoma. Parking is on the street, but I have never had any problem getting a parking spot within two blocks of the theatre. This is also no issue as the theatre is in a residential area with nice older homes surrounding it, which makes for a nice stroll to the theatre.
Dress varies, but most people take the time to put on something nice. Slacks and shirt or blouse, dress, sport coat, nice jeans, or any combination of the above works just fine.

Great program. My girls have really enjoyed going here. They have learned about acting, stage, grown confident in performing and singing in front of an audience. The staff is awesome in the way they work with kids and their dreams

I recently visited the TLT and have every intention of returning. What I am most excited about are the plays themselves and the TLT has a great lineup. I was immediately impressed that they serve wine and the employees working the concessions do a great job at moving the line along. The stage and seating are okay. The seats are in dire need of replacement though.
The two things I was least impressed with were parking and the restroom. There is no parking at the theater. You must park on the street, which can be quite a walk. Since many shows are at night I was not excited about walking the streets of Tacoma after dark. My issue with the bathroom is the stalls are so narrow you can barely move but that obviously wouldn’t stop me from returning to the TLT. I absolutely will be making many more trips to TLT… in fact I have already bought tickets to the next two productions!

We went here with some friends for a recent production. I will leave out my opinions of the production itself as this rating is for the venue.
I enjoy little theaters like this and the lobby and box office were cute and fit the ambiance of such types of play houses. HOWEVER, the theater was sweltering since it was summer after all. Very uncomfortable, I was literally sweating while stationary in my seat.
Because of this one factor I give this theater a two star rating and will probably decide to see a production elsewhere.

I have a friend who was in the cast for Joy luck club playing until ⁴⁄₇. To support her, we decided to drive down to Tacoma Little Theatre. We did not even know about this prior. We were pretty impressed with this historical little theatre though. It is the oldest theatre, or running the longest time in the area. They have some snacks and wine serving during the intermission in the concession area. The washroom line did get long for a while. Joy Luck Club was excellent, and we really enjoyed it. It was nice to be able to support my friend, and also know about this little theatre. I joined their newsletter list and we will be looking out for interesting new plays!

TLT really does quality theater. Nearly everyone there is a volunteer but you wouldn’t know that by the type of work they put out. In these lean times, it’s more important than ever to support local arts. TLT is worthy of your hardly earned dollars.

I really love, love, love this theater! I came here again for another showing recently and had a chance to sit in a different local of the theater. Another great seat in the house! I don’t expect any seat is a bad seat. Seating is a bit cramped, but its a older theater with a lot of flavor!
Great stage, props and acting! Prices are terrific and the service is always friendly!
