History

Established in 2007.

Building and property was originally used and operated by Tacoma Ice Storage in the late 1800s-​1980s. Building was redesigned on the inside as a self storage business in 2007.

Tacoma Self Storage has made a legacy with our famous «Tacoma Elf Storage» where on Black Friday, the light on the «S» in «Self» is turned off.

Mid-​February I moved an overseas container of household goods into Tacoma Self Storage. Manager Maria was very accommodating. She and Erica arranged for the unit by phone so it would be ready when I arrived. Maria left a key in one elevator to facilitate Star Movers loading. She also found a nearby unit when the reserved 10×15′ box could not hold all of my goods. Every time I visit, the facility is clean, cheerfully decorated with free spring water and candy plus useful rolling trolleys.

I love the staff, the customer service is great. Also feels like home with all the holiday decorations. The prices are nice and affordable. Would recommend to anyone needing a storage unit.

I just recently moved from Seattle to Tacoma, and was looking for a convenient spot close to the Marina’s in downtown Tacoma. I live on my boat part time, and needed a little extra storage space. This place is close, secure, very very clean. I stress this because I’ve had bad experiences at other storage places. The girls at the front desk are very friendly, professional, and very helpful. This was the first place I went to, and the last I had a good feeling about it. The price is where it should be, and the access hours are great.

When you spend Christmas with darling children who believe in Santa Claus, the holidays evolve from disgruntling to delightful.
Rewind to Christmas 2007. I was visiting my nephew and niece in Seattle. My nephew was soon to be old enough to be a non-​believer, and that dissent had the potential to spread to my niece. Then, miraculously, while driving back from Tacoma in my sister’s red Subaru chariot, we all Saw something.
A glowing neon sign to the right of the freeway that said, «Tacoma Elf Storage.» I will never know if the ‘S’ was intentionally turned off for the holidays, or if it was a coincidence, but for a brief moment on a rainy, December night, I was again a believer.
And it bought extremely precious time for the little ones, who still talk about it and reference it in the great Santa debate, which was the greatest Christmas gift of all.
