The Tallahassee Ballet is a regional, semi-​professional company featuring a combination of classical and cutting-​edge ballet. For 41 years, The Tallahassee Ballet has provided an outstanding training ground for emerging professionals, while stimulating appreciation of the dance arts in our community through several full-​scale productions each year. This season proves to be an exciting one for Tallahassee arts patrons.

The Tallahassee Ballet School offers classes for dancers of all ages and abilities.

History

Established in 1972.

The Tallahassee Ballet has spent the past four decade providing local residents with renditions of some of the world’s most renowned ballets highlighted by exquisite music, original costumes and innovative choreography.

Helen Salter, a former Balanchine dancer, founded The Tallahassee Ballet in 1972. The Tallahassee Ballet put on its first full length production of The Nutcracker in 1986. Over its 42 year history, The Tallahassee Ballet’s repertoire of both classical and contemporary works has grown to include 16 classical ballet pieces, seven full length ballet productions, 21 neoclassical productions, 47 modern ballet and jazz pieces, 18 romantic ballet pieces and six children’s ballets.

Manager

Janet Pichard has been the Executive Director of The Tallahassee Ballet since January 2007. Ms. Pichard offers a unique combination of professional experience in ballet instruction and administration, business marketing, and advertising.

As Executive Director of The Tallahassee Ballet, Ms. Pichard combines a lifelong passion for dance with professional experience that uniquely qualifies her to balance the many opportunities of a growing semi-​professional ballet company and school with the fine art of dance. Ms. Pichard is deeply involved with the many contributors of The Tallahassee Ballet from the Board of Directors to Artistic Faculty and Staff. She actively works to strengthen the presence of the Company in the Tallahassee community and has nurtured the support of The Tallahassee Ballet’s many supporters and sponsors.

Ms. Pichard holds a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree from the College of Education at the Florida State University.
