Camden Westshore

I have been a renter of various apts, houses, etc for the last 7 years. I moved down here from Maryland not knowing many people or complexes in the Tampa area about 6 months ago. In fact, the first time I had seen Camden Westshore Apartments was the day I moved in. I have to say I was blown away. At 27 I was looking for a place that catered to my age but also had a great mix of tenants. That is EXACTLY what I found here.
Not only are the people who live here VERY friendly, the staff is BY FAR the best staff /​customer service I have ever had the pleasure of renting from. Many places «claim» to be ²⁴⁄₇ maintenance, well Camden Westshore is certainly that. Jessica, Michael, and Marion (they are the associates of the complex) made me feel at home right away. They are young, energetic, and very passionate about providing us with the best service. Only a few times I needed to reach out to maintenance and each time they took care of my requests ASAP.
The location, you can’t beat with the prices. Coming from the North apts like this would cost upwards of 1500 – 1600 for a one bedroom. The pricing is more than fair and the cable packages they offer are second to none. And last but not least, the pool! It looks like a little Garden of Eden. I had friends recently visit and we spent an entire day out by the pool. We grilled burgers on the gas grill that is custom built into the brick (they provide the propane) and listened to music. The pool is the perfect atmosphere to host friends, family, and bbqs when it is nice outside which it is often here. Words out of everyone’s mouth: «this is one of the nicest apartment complex pools and facilities I have ever seen. You pay how much again???»

I’ve been here almost a year now, and am still as impressed and happy as I was in the beginning. The grounds continue to look amazing, every member of the staff goes out of their way to be helpful and responsive to any concerns I have. Kudos to Blake’s grill skills at our recent Resident Appreciation Day! Still lovin’ it!

Cheapest Carpeting you will ever find. The place is okay. Not worth $ 950 a month for a one-​bedroom. Will not renew, but the location is decent and the office staff is very friendly.

I have lived here for 12 years. This used to be a nice place to live, but under current management, you are no longer treated like a «resident,» you are treated like an inmate. It’s like you are a shiftless stepchild regulated to the basement, not to be seen or heard. Residents are treated with contempt and distrust.
For example: The assistant manager accused me of leaving my trash out in a green plastic bag (against one of the many rules), and to make things worse (for her), she claimed to have taken pictures of it. I said who do you think you are talking to? I’m not some flunky that just moved in yesterday. I said let me see these pictures you claim to have, because I know they don’t exist, because I did not commit this «crime» she was accusing me of, and I tell her if no pictures are forthcoming, I expect an apology. She storms off and I wait. I hear nothing. Crickets. So I contacted Camden headquarters in Texas and explained what was going on. About a half hour later, I get a call from the manager who said the assistant manager was having a bad day and was just «mixed up.» Mixed up? Yet when she confronted me, she swore she had evidence, these phantom pictures, and that she had just looked at them. I asked why isn’t she calling to apologize to me? It’s the least she could do, after all, but according to the manager, she was «a mess.». Yet this «mixed up… mess» is STILL the assistant manager. Competence is not a quality they look for in employees, at least when it comes to management.
As for the garbage situation, it’s maddening. You have to pay Camden Westshore $ 30 a month to have someone pick up your garbage from your door and take to the container in the back of the complex. And the rules are very strict — if you don’t follow them to a tee they threaten to fine you, and this seems to be the top priority of management here, hence my problem with ditsy assistant manager, who apparently sneaks around and takes pictures looking for violations. One would think they could at least get their violators correct before accusing people.
And they really get you with miscellaneous fees. When I first moved in, you only paid for the amount of water you used. Then they decided it was too much trouble for them to figure that out, so they decided to average the amount of water used by all residents and make you pay that, so if you rent a small, one bedroom apartment, you’ll pay as much for water as someone who rents a three bedroom apartment and has three roommates. My water bill tripled, although my water usage was the same. And in addition to the $ 30 garbage pickup fee, there’s an additional «trash» fee that runs around $ 10 a month. If there’s a fee, Camden Westshore charges it.
And although they claim to be «pet friendly, they charge a $ 450 NONREFUNDABLE fee for each pet, plus an additional $ 20 a month rent for EACH pet.
I believe it’s important to let people know what they are getting into before signing that lease. What was once a pleasant community to live in has turned into a struggle. We used to have managers that went out of their way to get to know you by your first name, now, you’re just a number, with a dollar sign in front of it. I now understand why people are constantly moving out. The guy who lived in the apartment across from me, and lived there for around 4 years, moved out about 6 months ago. I told him I was sorry to see him go. He said he has to, he «can’t stand it here anymore.» I didn’t ask him what he meant by that, but now I do. Relentlessly inept and robotic management has ruined what was once was a community and turned it into a corporate hellhole.
It should be noted that Camden Properties, which runs this place, is rated «D» by the Better Business Bureau.

My first impression of Camden Westshore was appreciation of the landscaping. It got better when I met Marion! She listened to me, understood what I needed and we found it! (Yay, Marion!!!) Everything about living here was explained thoroughly. Marion and all the other great folks in the office have been amazing since my January move-​in. Maintenance is prompt and efficient. I LOVE valet trash pick up! The pool and grounds are kept beautifully. I enjoy all the dogs we have here! I had heard that Camden communities were the best and I believe I will happily be here for a long time.

Been here almost a year and am still glad I picked this place. Nice quiet neighborhood, lots of people out walking dogs, and beautiful landscaping. It’s rare to find apartment complexes with mature oak trees. The occasional food truck visits are fun and a good time to visit with your neighbors.

Moved here about a month ago and have been very happy. Blake, Therese and the rest of the office staff have been professional and friendly and go the extra mile to ensure the tenants are happy and comfortable. The grounds are well maintained. In addition, when you need something repaired in your apartment, maintenance is quick to respond. The apartments and grounds are nicely maintained. Cherrie B.
