Dr. Heinen saved our dogs life! There are not enough good words to describe the excellent/​professional and highly skilled service we received at Gandy Animal Hospital. Our dog Lucy was a day or two away from being put to sleep as she had 8 – 9 pound mammary gland tumor. We are from Sarasota and three local Vets said it was impossible to remove, there was zero hope and the operation was way too vascular and complicated. The possibility was further complicated by the fact that Lucy is also on Prednisone as she has difficulty breathing
As a last chance, I looked up Laser pet surgery in Tampa, found Gandy Animal Hospital and asked my husband to drive the 65 miles for a final consultation. We saw Dr. Heinen, he was rather shocked by the size of the tumor. He reviewed Lucy’s records, examined her and with confidence told us that he could perform the complicated surgery and not to worry, by that night the tumor was removed.
Dr. Heinen and his staff delivered, at first Lucy did not each much after the operation but Dr. Heinen put in a feeding tube and she perked right back up. The staff took great care of her while she was recovering in the Intensive care area.
Since then she has made a full recovery, our 13 year old corgi runs around, barks, eats and plays happily — she acts like a much younger dog. We can’t believe it, we are very grateful to Dr. Heinen for performing a miracle! We are so happy Lucy is still with us as we have a saying, «Every day is a good day with Lucy»

Gandy Hospital has been a life saver for my pup Brooklyn. When I first rescued her about a year and a half ago, I would always go to the Humane Society hospital because it was cheaper. However, I quickly found that price doesn’t seem to out weigh time and personal relationships. Gandy is a clean and timely vet service. I use their boarding services more than I could count because of how abnormal my work hours. It’s so much cheaper than I initially thought it would be to board a dog at a vet. They also extended their hours until midnight (except for Sunday), which is one of the most incredible things I could have! Again, with abnormal hours, it is amazing knowing if I have a 12 – 13 hour work day, it’s usually still possible to go pick up my pup before they close. No extra fees or anything. I love tha they know Brooklyn and address both her and me by our names. Heather has saved me SO much money. She told me forever to get pet insurance, and finally, after an awful illness, I did. She spent nearly an hour with me getting all my paperwork filled out to help me get as much money back as possible. I’m honestly not sure where else people are willing to do such a thing. I’m so grateful to have a vet clinic that cares so much about me and my pup. I HIGHLY recommend using them for any of your boarding, illness, check-​up needs for your animals.

I love these guys. I was very nervous finding a new vet for my dog since moving to Tampa because of how timid the baby Ku is. He felt right at home here. It was time for the pups annual shots and I took to Unilocal for some doggy doctor advice. Reading some trusted reviews helped to put my overprotective dad fears to rest. Not only that, the hours for this place are amazing. No one likes having to schedule a day off to take care of vet duties, but with this place is not necessary.
Calling in to make a shot appointment, the young lady on the phone was courteous, friendly and extremely helpful. When I walked in the folks were even friendlier. It’s always great to walk into a place when someone says «Is that a black basenji?!» To be honest, until I got him, I had no idea what a basenji was.
The vet and lab tech were also amazing. The were checking on me letting me know what they were doing and how much longer his test results were going to take (cootie free!). The doc even pulled up some videos and information for me specific to basenjis and what type of predispositions they may have and what to look for.
Great people, great staff, easy to get to location for South Tampa. What more can you ask for?

I’ve been going to Gandy Animal Hospital for years, and always found the service outstanding. Making a same day appointment is no problem. The staff has always been hospitable and accommodating. The lobby is big and clean. They have separate waiting areas for dogs and cats, and different treating rooms for dogs and cats. The treating rooms are always clean, which is very important when it comes to animals.
I’ve only used their boarding service once, but before I did, I asked to see it. It’s upstairs, at least for cats, and the cages are big and roomy. I had to leave one of my cats overnight as he needed his teeth cleaned, which they do in the morning, but because I’m a night person, I knew I’d never be able to get up that early to drop him off, so I dropped him off the night before, which of course made me feel guilty, but they allowed me to bring his little bed and some toys for him so he would feel more comfortable, or in truth, make me feel less guilty. But the next day they cleaned his teeth and when I went to pick him up he was fine, a little loopy from the medications, but all in all it went fine.
Since then they have changed their hours and are now open until midnight (except on Sunday), which is great, especially for night people, but it’s also great in case an emergency arises in the evening. It’s hard to find an animal clinic with late hours.
A few weeks ago it was time for my cats to have their annual checkups and shots, and I was able to bring them in at 7:30pm, which was so much more convenient for me. They called me straight away the next day with the blood work results which thankfully were normal. Next time I have to have a procedure done where the cats need be there early in the morning, I can drop them off late at night and they’ll only have to spend a few hours alone until they open up again at 7am, which does take a load off my mind. They are my babies after all!
Since I’ve been going there so long I can’t say if they are expensive or not, I really don’t have anything to compare it to. But speaking of having to leave them overnight in order to have a procedure done the next day, there’s no charge for that.
I’ve had no complaints and would recommend them without reservation.

Gandy Animal Hospital has always been good to me & my pups. I call them the day of & they’re always able to fit us in– & now with their extended hours it really makes it easy. Miguel, 1 of the Vet Techs deserves 5 stars! He’s been there for several years & always helps with my dogs because they’re not fond of nail trims (to say the least).
I also appreciate that they don’t try to ‘upsell’ me the whole time I’m there. I used to HATE going to Banfield because every visit at least 3 – 4 people would try to sell me something or tell me 8, it was exhausting & pissed me off.

Dr. Heinen saved my dog’s life, therefore he will always hold a special place in my heart. Those who have pets know how much we love them. Some may think it’s crazy, but I would probably go broke for my dog.
After going to Banfield for years for my dog’s care I stopped after he was diagnosed with a mast cell tumor. Why did I stop going? Because he had gone in for his bi-​yearly checkup right before I saw the tumor and it was not seen then by them. How do I know it was there when he went in for that visit? Because I went through my photo album on my phone that has date/​time stamps and it was there. I kept asking myself how thorough do they really examine my dog if this happened? How could they have missed the tumor? I didn’t know what a mast cell tumor was until that happened so that’s why I didn’t even notice, but no excuses for a vet office. The vet there said he couldn’t operate on it since he didn’t have enough experience to do so, therefore, he referred me to Blue Pearl. After hearing this, I was so disappointed and distraught. I didn’t want my dog going through all this.
One of my brothers seeing how upset I was, told me to call a vet he knew. This was on a Friday night and I was calling the vet’s personal cell number. That vet was Dr. Heinen. I explained to Dr. Heinen what was going on and he told me to bring my dog in that following Monday to do the surgery. He had no qualms about the lack of skin to work on. He removed the tumor. He did a skin graf where the tumor was removed and he did a really great job! Blue Pearl vet even said Dr. Heinen did a great job. I had brought my dog to Blue Pearl after the surgery to see if radiation would give him a better prognosis. Blue Pearl said they would do radiation which involves burning the area where his tumor was and that his skin there would be leather like. The other option was chemo. Blue Pearl said they weren’t sure if they could have removed the tumor since there was so little skin around his leg. After going through my options, I decided my dog would have chemo through Dr. Heinen’s office for 6 weeks. My dog recovered and he now goes in for his regular checkups to make sure everything is good.
My dog and I trust Dr. Heinen and his staff wholeheartedly. Dr. Heinen knows his stuff! He is constantly going through additional training/​seminars for everything. He is very thorough when he examines Kobi and very thorough explaining any concerns with me.
The office is now open Mon-​Sat from 7am-​midnight and Sunday’s from 10−6pm.

Avoid Blue Pearl, which is REALLY PRICEY.
I am not saying Gandy is cheap. But Gandy is cheaper than Blue Pearl.

Had a great first visit yesterday. Very little wait time, nice clean premises, and their extended hours are wonderful! Everyone seemed to genuinely care about Boogie and didn’t mind him nosing through everything. Their package was very affordable and convenient. Some places charge almost $ 50 just to walk in the door, but we got bloodwork, fecal, vaccinations, and a check up all around $ 75.
