If there was a Seven Wonders of Tampa Bay, the Hindu Temple of Florida on the grounds of the India Cultural Center would surely make the list. The ICC, founded by the philanthropic Dr Patel and family, is located off the beaten path and will stop you in your tracks when you approach it. The main temple is truly magnificent and is unlike any building you’ll see around here. The amount of work and detail that was put into it amazes me. At the time I went, there was one very helpful and friendly gentleman working on the exterior. He told me the temple took 10 years to build, which does not surprise me. As I came during the afternoon, I was only able to walk around the exterior. The temple and cultural center is open from 6−9pm on weekdays and 9am-9pm on weekends, if I remember correctly. I look forward to one day taking a formal tour of the interior and exterior(call to schedule) so I can learn more about this majestic place.
