Description

Specialties

The Bar Method integrates the fat burning format of interval training, the muscle shaping technique of isometrics, the elongating principles of dance conditioning, and the science of physical therapy to create a revolutionary new workout that quickly and safely reshapes your entire body.

History

Established in 2001.

Burr Leonard, a former journalist, has been practicing and improving on the exercises that now make up The Bar Method exercise system since 1991.

Burr had been an avid Lotte Berk Method student since 1981 and had been teaching since 1991 when she was The Lotte Berk Method’s sole licensee.

In 1991 Burr and Carl Diehl, a lawyer, opened their first exercise studio in Greenwich, Connecticut. In 2000 they founded The Bar Method, Inc. and the next year opened their flagship studio in San Francisco. Since then they have built and franchised many Bar Method studios around the country and have produced two exercise dvds, the first in an ongoing series.

Jeanette DePuy, the Franchise Owner of the Bar Method Tampa-Westshore, opened the Tampa studio in January of 2013 after falling in love with the Bar Method two years earlier.

Meet the Business Owner

Jeanette D.

Business Owner

Jeanette (or Jenny) grew up on the east coast of Florida and danced from the age of 5 on. She was active in sports of all kinds, choosing to try them all instead of focusing on one. After graduating from Florida State University, she continued to make dance her mainstay and keep variety in her other activities to stay fit.

Then… Jenny fell upon the Bar Method in another city. She knew right away that Tampa needed one and that she was going to bring it to them!

After months of extensive training and a year and a half of working to get the studio open, she is exhilarated by the changes that she’s seeing in her students’ bodies, every day — muscle definition, flexibility and stamina! Jenny feels extremely fortunate that she is able to do something that she is so passionate about. That feeling continually drives her to do more things within the community that make a difference including hosting charity events and mentoring others looking to take a chance on something they love.
