The Westin Tampa Harbour Island

Very nice however slightly biased having just left the ramada screaming and crying. This is a nice hotel. Clean, classy, updated. Room is a little small but not unusually for the great price ($ 129) for a standard king bed room. Nice view from just about everywhere. Food at the bar was disappointing but there’s so many places within (safe) walking distance that it’s hardly an inconvenience. If you’re reading this and don’t get to my other review just FYI to never stay at the ramada here to save twenty bucks unless you like 1970s carpet and crackhead ambiance. Again the Westin is great, definitely recommend.

Superb location, very clean, comfortable and relaxing. A great place when you want some R&R near all the best places in Tampa! I definitely recommend this place!

Arrived in Tampa for a convention and every step of the way to get there was hellish, delays, missed flights and whatnot. We finally get to the hotel we had reservations at only to find they had been canceled by someone who was not us. Not only were they canceled, but the hotel was sold out. They were kind enough, however, to find availability at the Westin so they tossed us back in a cab and sent us over that way.
The first person from the hotel we encountered was a lovely woman named Cindy, whose warmth and enthusiasm made it impossible for me to hang onto my bad day. She told me anything I needed, to let her know and she’d see if she could make it happen.
Getting up to the check-​in desk, we explained to the man (the ever so helpful Alan) that we had been sent over from a different hotel, with the understanding there was only availability for that evening but not beyond. (Which, by no fault of theirs, would leave us without a place to stay for another 2 nights.) We asked if there was anything he could do, please…
And he did. Somehow, someway, he magically saved the rest of our trip to Florida by finding some availability for our whole stay. Thankfully, cleaning up the mess we were left in by the ‘other’ hotel.
The stay there was wonderful. The room, sure, it probably could use a little bit of updating, but it was white-​glove clean and had an incredible view. The restaurant downstairs, we ate there 3 times during our stay and each time, the food was delicious. The breakfast buffet, the only thing I didn’t like about that was the potatoes were a little too garlicky, but that’s ok because I stuffed myself on everything else they had, which was a LOT.
Convenient to the convention center, a clean room, awesome customer service, delicious food and a beautiful view. I loved the stay I had there and won’t hesitate to go back again.

Screwed over by their reservations and front desk … Called from airport to see if they had availability and was told they had a room for me. Gave my info to hold it. After taking a taxi there, they gave up my room. 1am in the rain I had to figure out somewhere else to go. Manager did give me some options but only after a very uncomfortable heated conversation. Don’t take their word on the phone, make sure you write down the name of whoever you talk to.

Phones, refrigerator don’t work. Called from cell to have replaced. 1 replaced phone still didn’t work. No room service menu. Called for one, was brought a breakfast door hanger menu. Called again, told they are sold out so out of menus. Got restaurant menu finally but when order food was told they are out of fries and they put wrong condiments on Cuban sandwich (contrary to what is stated on menu). No offer for compensation (free coke, free desert). Was out of espresso in restaurant so couldn’t get a latte (again excuse of «hotel is sold out»). Had 2 Westin employees banging on door in early evening of NYE first stating they had a letter to deliver from GM; then room service to wrong room and ran off when we finally answered door. Geez…#westinfail

I rarely write reviews, but I use them a lot if I go out of town.
The Westin Tampa Harbor Island upon arrival seems to be a good quite place from a weekend getaway. Lovely view and the hotel was close to everywhere we where going this weekend.
Tired after the Lighting game and driving I was «hopefully «going to get a good nights rest. Boy was I wrong, the restaurant/​nightclubs music, patrons, DJ, and screaming kept loudly and clearly going till almost 3 am. Understandably staying at a hotel can be noisy at time, but not partying till the early morning. I did call the front desk to complain and ask when the nightclub would be closing — 2:45 am. As each song ended, I hopefully thought finally I can get sleep, and then the beat and bass of the next song would start and no sleep…

I was really taken aback at the dirty guest rooms and hallways here. It looked like the Westin put zero effort into maintaining the hotel. As soon as I stepped out of the elevator I was greeted by a dirty, disgusting carpet that looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in years. It was light brown from wear and full of various stains.
More alarmingly, there were several electric outlets on the floor that were cracked. A child could easily fit their fingers into one of those cracks, and I really says a lot that the hotel just didn’t spend a couple dollars to fix one of the socket covers.
Even the door to my room was in really bad shape. The bottom of the door was falling apart, with rot and large splinters clearly visible. Other doors on my floor were damaged with large scuff marks — I’m not really sure what happened there.
I’ve attached a bunch of pictures so you can get an idea of what I’m talking about. Overall, the condition of this hotel was really disappointing, and given what they’re charging it would be very easy to find a nicer hotel that is better maintained. After seeing what little effort has been put into maintaining areas that are visible to guests, it’s scary to think of what’s going on in the areas of the hotel that aren’t visible to the public (food service, laundry, sanitation, etc.).

It’s a beautiful hotel it’s too bad I ran from it due to the bed bugs crawling across the blanket. I was in room 702 for about 3 hours when I saw three bed bugs.
I brought the carcass of one downstairs as I checked out. The employe at the desk was nice enough to call some surrounding hotels to find me another place to stay. He also let me know that I would not be charged for the evening. I should hope not. Be careful and check your bed before you settle in. I sincerely hope they correct the problem thoroughly. I have a hard time believing only one room has bugs.

Westin as a trademark generally means an exceptional experience. This place must be the neglected step-​child of the Westin fleet. It’s old and in need of updates. Since the majority of people that stay here are on business, you would think needs of the business traveler would be a priority. Forget wifi in your room. Sure, pay the very overpriced service if you wish but good luck getting a decent signal in your room. Hope you enjoy sitting in the lobby, because that’s you best option for a signal. Say, anybody have the desire to charge your phone/​tablet/​laptop/​printer or anything else? Hope you like using the plug on the bathroom vanity, because that’s the only damn free outlet in the room. I didn’t feel like moving the bed to unplug the lamps. Who does not have extra plugs on the desk these days?
This place was not the soild 4 star I was expecting of Westin.

I went to this hotel while attending a conference last week. I don’t like to leave poor reviews but the place smelled like gas, everyone was complaining, it was very dated and it was listed as 4 star– NOT even close.

Don’t expect Westin quality. It is not even close to being on par with any of the other Westin hotels I’ve stayed at over the years. Everything is very dated. The layout is beyond confusing. Our first room had a shower that was broken, so after staying a night in the first room and then discovering the broken shower, we had to relocate. They did give us two wine or beer tickets for the inconvenience, but neither of us drink. Nice gesture though. Both rooms had heavily stained carpets. The desk was covered in crumbs. I left $ 5 tip for housekeeping and the bed was sloppily made and nothing else had been cleaned or vacuumed. Parking is $ 18 a day and the garage smells like hot garbage. I would have given 3 stars, but the business center isn’t free! $ 7 for 10 MINUTES of internet access and each printed sheet costs $ 0.65! Absolutely absurd. We were unable to print our travel documents for our very early flight without paying around $ 9! I’ve never run into this at any other Westin, or any other hotel! Greedy, greedy, greedy! Wifi is paid only, obviously. The pool was nice but a lot of the chaise covers were stained and ripped. Unimpressed.

Sad experience. First room smelled of mold to the point we could stay inside. Second hadn’t been cleaned and the door had been forced open. We were moved to a junior suite with an ants problem. I stay in Starwood properties once or twice per month everywhere in the world and this is by far my worst experience. I received 3,000 points and free valet for the inconvenience. Handled all that nicely with the manager but when I arrived at checkout, what was promised to me on the phone as «$ 105 plus 11,000 points for the stay» turned into «$ 105 per day plus 11,000 points for the stay», which just made this whole experience just not worth the trouble.

I never write bad reviews it takes a lot for me to write something negative about a company. However, I have never been so disappointed when trying to check into a hotel. I checked in at 12:00 the room wasn’t ready which I completely understand since their check in is 3:00. It is now 6:00 and our room is still not available. I have an event at 7:00 to get ready for. They said that they are sorry but they are busy and they could still not give me an estimate on the time we could get into our room. Unorganized terrible service I am very disappointed!

This hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of the Convention Center and offers amenities that are expected at a Westin, including valet service, and fantastic rooms with outstanding views.
I believe they missed out on an opportunity to wow us, however, when we returned later in the evening and asked about room service at the desk, only to be told that there was a function earlier and no more food was available! Not even a suggestion was offered as to where to go to find something, let alone an attempt to do something as simple as look up the number for local pizza delivery!

Westin best in Tampa? No. But the location is convenient and the rooms offer great views on both sides. We faced the city and it was still really beautiful to see sunset behind the skyline across the bay.
We got a great deal for a quick staycation. The service exceeded our expectations — they comped our valet and wifi since we were only staying a night, and they let us use the pool after checkout. Very appreciated!
However, rooms were mediocre:
— low-​quality window vent, either too warm or cool
— no full length mirror
— sheets and towels were rough
— fluorescent lighting
Overall, I would say it’s fine for a business trip, but I wouldn’t recommend it for a romantic getaway.

The event team at the Westin Tampa Harbour Island went ABOVE AND BEYOND all of my expectations. My original wedding venue that was booked for 9 months CANCELLED on me 24 hours before my wedding. We were devastated. But We were referred to the Westin by our two close friends and luckily for us they were completely open on 4÷12÷15. The staff there made my wedding happen with less than 24 hours to work with. The team made every effort possible in making it the most amazing day of our lives. Delaynna Winters should receive an award AND a raise for the wedding she was able to throw together for us.
I have nothing but positive and great things to say. From the delicious food, to gorgeous scenery and great location. Planning on getting married? Then plan to do it at the Westin Tampa Harbour Island!

Disappointed, from check in through check out, I was underwhelmed. We happened to be staying here during a conference so when we arrived there was a decent amount of guests checking in, I went right to the Starwood line, figuring my Platinum status would help and the check in staff seemed to overlook us. After about 15 minutes we were finally checked in, one of my rooms was not ready so we had to wait a little longer (it was after check in time, close to 5pm, not cool). We were handed a free drink ticket since we had to wait so long. My room felt dated and stale, it was clean enough but from a few random hairs in the shower and dust on the furniture, it left me thinking that housekeeping didn’t pay all that much attention to detail. For the price I expected a lot more and I will not be going back to this property ever again.

I have so many negative things to say about this place that I better start with the positives. I had an awesome view of the harbor from my room, the rooms were nice, clean etc, and there was good dining available on site. Also, the tiramisu from room service was delicious.
Now I have to move on to the negatives. I stayed here for a week during a work convention. The check-​in process was that most disorganized thing ever! There were several people working and they couldn’t figure out how to check us in for a business trip with several rooms on one bill. The prices changed from what was quoted and emailed prior to the trip and once we arrived we found out that tax was not included in the «final price» and we had to pay more for that. With all the difficulty we were never offered an apology or any kind of ammenity. Which is funny because when were were checking out there were some other people checking in who seemed to be having the same difficulties as us checking in and they were upgraded to a suite and given several drink tickets for the bar. Didn’t really seem fair in terms of who gets rewarded for difficult experiences.
The pool was the most difficult thing to find in the building. There are literally no signs anywhere. We finally asked the concierge and discovered we had to take an elevator up to the 3^rd floor, walk down 2 hallways and then take another elevator down to the pool. The only place I ever saw a pool sign was on the 3^rd level. How would one know where the pool is without signs?! The pool area itself was really nice.
Our toilet was initially broken when we got to our room and we were able to get it fixed. There were no areas near the beds to plug in phones or other devices. I had to unplug the alarm clock by crawling under a table to be able to charge my phone overnight.
The biggest things I didn’t understand were the lack of free wifi even though it’s a business area and not a tourist resort. And there was no complimentary breakfast. The only place that had free wifi was in the lobby area, so i went down there to get some work done and the wifi was so bad I couldn’t get enough of a signal to do anything. The cost of «renting» wifi for a few hours in the evenings for a week cost more than I pay for internet at home for an entire month.
This place needs to get it’s act together. I will never stay here again.

I see there are some negative perceptions of this hotel, and yes, it is a bit on the older side of the Westin hotel family, but my experience was quite nice. Much of this probably depends on how much you are paying for the room (you can find Priceline deals, Travelzoo deals, etc.), but for the price we payed it was a great experience. Westin hotels consistently have nice beds, clean rooms, and friendly staff. This location was on point with all of these things, and had great views out over the harbor. Overall, it is in a nice, convenient location to downtown Tampa, and at the cost, a great option to stay.

Not as bad as I anticipated based on the reviews. I put in a bid on priceline and got a room for under $ 100 on a Friday night and loved it. Yes, it’s not the «4 Star Hotel Experience» with free water and whatever else one may expect but it’s still a nice hotel. I typically stay Hilton and this is on-​par with their service, comfort, and amenities. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and we were able to get a room with a great view of the harbor. Overall a good experience, would recommend checking this location out.
