first review of a company ive ever felt the need to write. my girlfriend ordered a special promotion powerhouse 12 cigar combo pack advertised in smartsource magazine from thompson cigar outlet for fathers day. first communication we received from the company was an email that our order will be delayed… ok no big deal…5 days after fathers day we called company to find out if order had been shipped… they told us that our order was undeliverable by ups… we verified information with them on the phone and everthing was accurate. my girlfriend doesnt work and is home ²⁴⁄₇ to receive any packages .also no note from ups that deliver will be attempted later? their response we will credit your account… as of today of course. or you can pay another 24.99 for the order to be reshipped… if your in the mood for a dissapointing and frustraing experience… order your cigars from thompson outlet in tampa florida

I want to say the bad reviews come from people ordering online. I live in Tampa and I have been to the location many times I always found great service I enjoyed myself when I’m there and they have a large selection and variety of cigars I urged of the cigar smokers that have had bad experiences with a catalog or the online sales just come in at the Tampa location and give them a second chance the bad reviews that they’ve have gotten in the past they do not deserve them I will continue to shop and buy there often

first off I ordered some Stogies and that went well enough but I got on the website to check out the status of my order only to a banner pop up on my phone when I tried to close it bam I am singed up for some rewards program that cost 15 bucks a month. when I called to cancel the membership (Which I never wanted in the first place) I was told that I had to wait 48 hours… After multiple calls I finally got someone on the line to cancel the membership which I was able to I get a call from them telemarketing me while I am at work on my cigar smoking habits and all that was to try to resign me up for the program I just cancelled!!! These guys are something else and have lost a customer in me!
Who calls someone in the middle of a monday to talk about how many cigars I smoke a week?
Needless to say I would stay far away from them and make sure you get a confirmation number when you cancel.

Did receive a call back from them today with explanations about why things happened the way they did. I am pleased to see that Thompson does care about what their customers are saying and is actively trying to make things better. I will see if things go well after my next shipment next quarter,

You’ve tried to contact during business hours in which we are unavailable. You may contact the 352 number I provided before 3:00 today. We are not going to let this issue interrupt our work day. There should have never been an issue to begin with.

I am an occasional cigar smoker with eclectic tastes. So the Thompson catalog fits my bill. I order sample packs whenever vacation or a big poker game with the guys is coming, and generally get my order in 4 – 5 days on the West Coast. I order by telephone and the reps seem to know how to point me in the right direction.
I decided once to shop around, and discovered Thompson prices are as good or better than any other place I could. And WAY cheaper than our local «discount» store. Thanks Thompson!

Decided to update on this review. Looks like TC only responded to this review to make it look like they are concerned about their customers but clearly are not. I was asked to give the order # so they could «look into what happen and make it right». I supplied the order # and now close to 3 months later, I’ve never heard from TC again. Looks good for the readers as if TC is concerned but don’t be fooled, they are not. This once was a good company but have only gone down hill over the years. Customer service is less than 1 star. When you talked with them they are clearly not listening to you and only reading a script. I told the rep that I would never order from them again and he asked if I would consider joining the Club Membership. I said I just told you I would never order from you again. He said he could reactivate my points if I would like to take advantage of their specials. Obviously did not hear a word I said. No matter how many times I said no, he just offered to activate my points. Simply put… STAY AWAY FROM TC.

Terrible.
Placed an order for some cigars for a friend. My friend received the cigars fine, and I went out of town shortly after due to a family emergency. Apparently, they did NOT charge my credit card but for some reason still shipped the cigars. I returned back to town with two letters in my mail about how if I did not pay them immediately they would go to debt collectors. Seriously? You have both my phone number AND email and the only way you ever contacted me was via snail mail? Despite the fact it’s not my fault if you mailed the cigars without charging me? Sorry, but someone at your company dropped the ball — not me. I immediately called them when I returned and gave them my credit card information again. No apology or anything. Won’t purchase from here again.

As a follow up;
Thompson contacted me in an effort to make right. They sent me a $ 20.00 gift certificate to there website which I thought was a nice gesture on their part. (However, I haven’t used it yet)
Now… after no further purchases and no additional contact with anyone at Thompson, today I find a fraudulent charge on my credit card from them. I can’t believe it!
This company is obviously trying to rip people off. I fully intend to report this matter to my credit cards Fraud Alert Dept., as well as the Better Business Bureau.
Buyer beware!

Ordered for a Christmas delivery November 3^rd, plenty of time. Called today December 22 and haven’t shipped. They told me my credit card didn’t approve. They never emailed me or called me to let me know and order status just kept saying in process. Today I called and they told me about credit card so I had to give a new card and Pay additional for overnight delivery. Seems to me they could have told me that card was rejected a month ago and I wouldn’t have to pay for overnight. My last order.

After tasting my first Hemingway short story maduro recently, an online search revealed just how limited supplies are right now. But Thompson had ‘em in stock, so I ordered a box. Having never done business with Thompson before, I then decided to read the reviews. Yikes! I was afraid I’d just made a mistake, to say the least.
Well, the transaction is now complete, and I have to say they scored a perfect 10 in all but one very important category — my privacy. Shipping was extremely quick — I ordered them on a Wednesday, had the box in my hand on Saturday, all the way to Hawaii. Excellent! I received exactly what I ordered, a sealed cedar box of these short story beauties, in perfect condition — Excellent! Despite the very limited supply, they didn’t try to gouge me on the price according to my online searches — Excellent and appreciated!
The deal breaker, unfortunately, is the dreaded sales call mentioned in many other reviews. Sure enough, I got a call from them trying to sell me on the «club», an option I had already declined during the online checkout. This might be no big deal for some, but it’s pretty huge to me. I value my privacy and don’t want anyone calling me to try to sell me something unsolicited — PERIOD! Because of this, I doubt I’ll be doing business with them in the future. It’s a real shame and very surprising they don’t get it when it comes to this.

So I rolled up on Thompson Cigar today for a special Arturo Fuente event where they were celebrating TC’s 100 year anniversary. This was literally the first time I had been here since I was an employee some 15 years ago, and I’ve got to say, they’ve really stepped up their game. A ton of the smokes they offer now are of a higher quality than what I remember, and the prices were jaw-​dropping low on some of the items – definitely cheaper than dealing with the catalog. They still don’t carry some of my favorites like Drew Estate and A.J. Fernandez, but they’re all about the Arturo Fuente. In fact, I picked up a box of a special blend that AF made just for Thompson’s 100 year anniversary. In addition, they we serving up free Cigar City Maduro and Papa’s Pilar rum, which is one of my go-​to sipping rums. Needless to say, I left a happy camper.
I had previously considered Thompson irrelevant in the world of cigars, but with the competitive pricing in the outlet, I may have to reconsider.

As I stated I’d do, I’m updating my review. Thompson reached out to me regarding my review ASAP and also called me. They stated that PayPal had given me incorrect information and I was not signed up for any Billing Agreement. However, I don’t think PayPal would pull that out of thin air.
However, I appreciate their responsiveness and also, I ordered the cigars this week and they arrived this week! On top of that, the person who they were for loves them! Said they’re even better than the cigar lounge he goes to weekly. We are very pleased!!!

Fraud Alert: I really do not like your company for these reasons, very unprofessional and sloppy, no one to speak with. My first and ONLY order approx. 4÷5÷15 was horribly miss– handled, never delivered and finally refunded over 3 weeks later Two days after the initial order I was contacted by phone from a call center in India where a lady tried to very strong handedly UP-​SELL me into all kinds of stuff. I was very offended by the call, it’s tactics and tone and made it very clear that I do not want to buy, join, lease, accept, participate, etc. in any manner with Thompson Cigar. Then a month later, out of nowhere, I was email confirmation of Order# 606 033 and charges pending in my bank account? I never made this order, never received this order and did not ever give permission for my banking information to be stored and miss– used. I have filed a complaint with my bank and tried to call your useless customer service number numerous times.
I finally got through and spoke with a supervisor who identified as Johnny Agent #5556. She assured me that there would be an internal investigation to see that I never authorized any of this and call me back within 24 hours. It is now June 2,2015.

Thompson’s claims to be America’s oldest mail order cigar company, and I must say I think that it must be true, because the speed at which they’re processing and shipping my order certainly reminds me of a time before the internet, when companies could survive with turnaround times measured in weeks.
I suspect that visiting the store in person gives customers a very different experience, as clearly, a lot of the happy customers are those who enter the store to make their purchases. As for mail order, sadly this company lives up to its reputation for glacial speed, so I advise those who demand better to go elsewhere.

Thought I’d give them another chance, but They still run this scam with on-​line ordering. Basically they offer you a discount if you join their club with no mention of a monthly fee. Then you get billed $ 14 /​month out of the blue. Read the fine print.
Too many other reputable dealers out there to be ordering from them again!

We go here every time my inlaws are in town since my father-​in-​law has been a loyal magazine customer of theirs for years. The girls in the shop were friendly, applied a credit he had from a prior visit w/​no issues, and got our 4 free cigars from the check-​in offer.
Can’t complain!

1. It takes between 10 to 14 days to receive your order after placing it.
2. They bang your credit card immediately, and ship 3 or 4 days later.
3. If you foolishly place you order by telephone, you have to go through this upscale sales pitch to buy more. «Were you aware of our special on bulk pipe cleaners»
4. When they finally do ship, you receive a Robo call voicemail message warning that tobacco products are being shipped to this address!
I hope they have a successful store front business because they fall well short of the competition in online and mail order business.
Other than the above, their cigars are fine.
