Tu Sabor Cuban Restaurant

This is a hit or miss place. Sometimes you get really good service and food. Other times you get terrible service and mediocre food. It’s a small little latin restaurant that is very quiet. Parking is easy since it sits in a strip mall. If you have never tried it I would still give it a shot, maybe do the Cuban since it is a classic sandwich and hard to mess up.

I was really disappointed with this place. I really wanted to love it because it’s Latin food and they deliver but unfortunately it wasn’t very good. We ordered Cuban sandwiches, ropa vieja and a chicken sandwich. The ropa vieja was not very good. It tasted like pulled pork. The black beans were really watery and the yuca was dry. My co-​worker was really upset about the chicken sandwich. She said they used the thigh meat and the gristle was left on the sandwich. My other co-​workers said the Cuban was decent. Delivery also took over an hour.

This restaurant has good food and friendly staff, however the owner doesn’t know how to run a business. I called yesterday (12÷21÷15) to order breakfast for delivery, and the owner’s answer was: «I have two orders in front of you, can I call you back later?» I’ve never seen a place who deliver food do that, and the most frustrating part was that he never called me again to get my order. So my son and I had to eat breakfast somewhere else. So my recommendation is, if you want to get food from this place, order it and go pick up yourself or you can go eat in but do not order for delivery unless you’re the first one to call.

Food was decent. Called to place order, went to pick it up, wasn’t ready, waited 20 more minutes, then done. It could do so much better.

It was a real toss up between one star and two stars. We decided to visit Tu Sabor on a whim. My girlfriend has driven by several times and always wanted to stop. I made the mistake of not checking Unilocal first and I had one of the most disappointing lunches in awhile. The first give away was the fact the restaurant was empty when we arrived Sunday afternoon. We were promptly greeted upon entrance and told we could sit anywhere we liked. The owner and staff were very friendly. We were given menus and told we could order breakfast and lunch as they serve breakfast all day on Sunday. I ordered tea and my girlfriend ordered a mango and mild frozen drink that was actually really good. To start we had some fried yuca and some ham croquettes. The croquettes were pretty good, but no better than Goya in the frozen food section. As for the yuca… Horrible. It was greasy and kinda cold. The worst fried yuca I have ever had. It was like the fryer was cold and the put the yuca in before the oil was hot. Nevertheless, for lunch my date had the palomilla steak with rice and beans and I had the medianoche sandwich. Starling with the steak… Warm not hot but warm like it was under a heat lamp and no seasoning. Just blah. And the rice and beans were very bland. my sandwich was pretty greasy and cold in the center. It Tampa there are a lot of choices for Latin food and Tu Sabor was a poor choice. My girlfriend said she wished Restaurant Impossible would help them out.

This is a quiet place with no a lot of action. The food, however is incredible! The Latin food there is delicious! My husband is from Puerto Rico and agrees that the food and flavor is true to its roots. There was some confusion about hours of operation. Different websites post different hours of operation. It’s never been busy in there when I go. I think people do «take-​out» more than they do to sit and eat. I encourage you to sit and eat. That way you do not miss out on the complimentary basket of warm, buttered Cuban bread you get before your meal. I think I ate a whole basket myself!
I usually order the ropa vieja with red beans and white rice. I also order a side of tostones to share.

I broke my own rule… I had a negative experience here about 6 months ago, but thought I would give it a 2^nd try. Big Mistake!!!
Unilocalers, please do not go here. I ordered a Greek Salad and asked for chicken to add some protein. The chicken had a horrible smell to it and was cut as thin as potato chips. I got a beef and cheese empanada as well, don’t do it!
I love empanadas but this was dry, filled with a substance I think was potato and absolutely no flavor.
When I go to a place and have a negative experience, I rarely give them a second try… after this, now I know why!

Food was great and authentic. Staff were friendly and attentive. The place was empty, but I assume that is because it says they are closed on Sunday’s. When in fact they are open 7 days a week and even home deliver food with no minimum order. Great place.

My wife and I just had dinner there. This was our first time, the restaurant is very nice looking and clean. The service is what killed the whole experience. My wife got the wrong dish also no dressing on her salad. We couldn’t tell the waitress because she never came back. It wasn’t busy so that wasn’t it. I got chicken crouquettes for an appetizee the menu said 4 we got 3. Chicken and yellow rice is usually nice with some hot sauce but no waitress. No drink refills. Leaving dirty plates on table I mean they were there until we left. The food tasted ok but the service was so bad it ruined the dinner.

I stopped back in for a quick bite on my way out of town Sunday. Same great sandwich and same no refill of the iced tea or even ask if I wanted a water. Pork is salty and you need liquids when eating it.

Went there for breakfast this morning and you can’t beat the prices! We loved both our plates. The restaurant is very clean and the wait staff was very nice. Our waitress recommended the columbian coffee which was excellent :)
