Stopped in today to do a tasting as I always enjoy trying the local wines when I travel. I am allergic to red wine so can only drink whites. Usually this severely limits my tasting choices but was happy that this winery had many different whites for me to try. I did the six tastings and really liked the chardonnay. I enjoyed talking with the girl working and she was knowledgeable about the wines. I bought a bottle of the chardonnay and also a bottle of red to take to my boyfriend back at home.

Fantastic little wine shop outside Taos. My husband and I come here every year and stock up on the Rio Embudo red, and others as they are available. It’s just so adorable and fun — if you are in the area, don’t miss it!

I will never forget this winery. Now, I’m no amateur when it comes to wine. I’ve drank my share of entire bottles of wine in one sitting. But I can’t do that with just any wine, but I could with this wine. Not that anyone should –you’d be well advised to slowly sip the wine and fully enjoy the flavors. We did the 6 tastings for $ 6, which is an outstanding deal. And you get to keep a wine glass too! The wine glasses have cute little New Mexican-style birds on em. I like it. The girl behind the bar was incredibly friendly and knowledgable. I found myself jealous that is her job. I want that job. She said the owner spent some time in New Zealand learning about wine, and I want that job too. So anyway, the wine is good. Quit reading my stupid opinion and just go there for yourself.

People are generally pretty snobby about wine, so they might not check out a place boasting New Mexican wine, but they would be fools! Sad, poor, misguided fools. I really liked this place. The service behind the bar was very lively and knowledgeable — dispensing interesting info about the wines and the operation itself. We opted to do the wine tasting — which is an awesome value. You get 6 tastes and a wine glass for $ 6. I started out tasting whites, which were fine, but the reds my girlfriend was getting were way better. I’m not a huge fan of reds, but these were fantastic. We even bought a bottle, which I’m drinking as I type this. I’m no wine expert — I go in more for beer and booze — but I’m pretty sure I remember the woman here saying that the winemaker spent a lot of time working in New Zealand, so the wine reflects that style. If that means something to you, perhaps it’ll help form your expectations for the place.

We went to this winery in August of 2013. I must say we were impressed. We loved all their wines. Very friendly and knowledgeable. The wines were not nearly as pricy as the winery just a couple miles away(Vivac) and they tasted much better. Later in the day we stopped at a brewery only to find out it was owned by the winemakers sister!

Good wine! They also had some really great pottery! Wine tasting prices were reasonable.

Try the Rio Embudo 2010. Great spot in Taos and the only wine tasting room.

La Chiripada was the best winery we had stopped at all day. Not only was their tasting free, the venue was pleasant, the server very friendly, the wines decently priced but they were also good! They had a wide variety of reds and whites. If you like whites, I personally think this is the best in the area. A forewarning, their whites run a little on the sweeter side but they are well done and the sweetness does not mask the original flavor of the grape. Their reds are well rounded and still robust in flavor. I highly recommend this winery and it was a favorite throughout our whole group!

Tasting room with red and white wines that are a bit too sweet.

This review is for the actual winery, about 20 minutes away from Taos on SR75. We were met by the winemaker himself, and he told us his parents started the winery back in the 70’s along with their own pottery business. The owner was incredibly friendly and obviously very proud of his wines. I’m not sure what a tasting costs because he just broke out a bunch of bottles and poured whatever wines we thought were interesting along with some of his favorites, at no charge. The Cabernet was impressive, as was the Winemakers Select which I believe was a red blend of sorts. We left with a bottle and plans to order more online!

Great Wine! This little wine shop only carries La Chiripada wines which are great. I was pleased to find a ton of awards from the Finger Lakes International Wine Competition. I am from that wine region that taught me some about wine enough to know that La Chiripada has some great wine. The tastings were reasonably priced at $ 2 for three, or $ 6 for three and a glass. They did not have wine spit buckets or pallet cleansers and their pours were too large for them not to. Mind you, they do not provide you with a glass of wine for only two dollars, they just should have a spit bucket and pallet cleansers if you’re going to pour anything about a half ounce pour. The wine was a little pricey too. Though I found it to be worth the price, you can find wines with similar quality for less.
