Wow, what a gem! We came from Stafford which is over an hour away for business and based on reviews decided to eat here. That turned out to be a great choice. Service was prompt and courteous. Our waitress was very knowledgeable. Wife ordered the crab cakes and I had the stone ground shrimp and grits with andoille sausage. The crab cakes were huge and had just enough filler to hold them together. My dish was awesome as well. The spring greens salads were excellent as was the roasted squash. We were served some sweet cornbread as an appetizer that was to die for. Wife said I rider some to take home!!! A great dining experience and we will be back again!!!

My husband and I have a second home in the Mt. Holly/Montross area and were looking for a new place to celebrate our anniversary. I had over heard someone mention that the Fat Finch had moved from Warsaw to Tappahanock and that they had not been back since. Since we have tried everything else in the area I thought — what the heck — let’s venture over the bridge and give it a try! We were pleasantly pleased with our experience. The ambience was quiet and quaint. We called ahead and were told that we should just come along with no reservations needed. I think we were lucky — plenty of tables when we arrived but by the time we left the place was packed. Packed but still quite and quaint. All the staff was very friendly and attentive throughout the evening. Specials were brightly printed on the chalkboard on the wall, as well as on a separate menu along with the regular menu items. A nice variety to choose from but no too overwhelming. We were served a few small squares of very moist cornbread while we looked over the menu. We chose two different entrees — Shrimp and grits and a crab stuffed shrimp entrée. Both were accompanied by a side salad, one with asparagus and the other with a baked potato and asparagus. Both were delicious — the grits were al dente but still creamy, cheesy and garlicy. About 4 large shrimp in total. The stuffed shrimp were delicous as well. Three large shrimp with an abundance of crab meat baked tender. Everyone knew everyone(except us) in this place. As guests came in — they made their rounds to say hello and exchange hugs with other diners around the restaurant. We laughed but although no one stopped to say hello and give us a hug we commented that we didn’t feel like outsiders because the staff made us feel just as welcome as anyone/everyone else. Not sure when we’ll be back since it’s not exactly around the corner — but we WILL be back. If you are in the area or don’t mind the drive, it’s worth the trip.
