Friendly staff and best prices possible for retail. I prefer to purchase all my animal feed and even organic eggs from local farms here.
I have been going here for almost 10 Years! Hands down best customer service and staff.

I stopped in here to browse. Noticed they didn’t have any live animals for sale while I was there, though they did have a baby chicken thing set up for maybe having live chicks at some times. I bought a few supplies for my guinea pigs and they let me use their restroom (phew!). Staff was very polite and professional. All the other customers I saw there seemed to be locals and well known by the staff. Everyone was so friendly and warm. I would shop here again if I lived in town!

So far, my visits here has been kind. They have supplies for my chickens that I bought (rescued?) here. I love coming here during spring and summer because they get all kinds of chickens, birds, and baby chicks. In addition, they have free popcorn, which makes me feel like I’m in a small animal fair.
The staffs so far has been good to me so no complaints so far. They do have a cat in the store but sadly I have to stay away cause I’m allergic. Overall, this place is like a barn but has everything you’ll need for small to large animals, and it doesn’t feel commoditized!

Absolute awful customer service. The ladies at the front did not seem interested in anything outside of their private conversation. I feel terrible for the owner. Not sure if he or she is aware or even cares. Every other pet store I go to the customer service is top notch. They make you feel welcomed and they seem genuinely interested in your pet’s needs and helping you. Not here unfortunately. Really disappointed.

I have been coming to the Red barn since it opened. all the people working there have knowledge about the items sold. I find them all friendly, ready to help you with any information needed… they have everything. and I have over they years needed almost everything from dogs, cats, birds, frogs, hamsters to even hoping a wee baby possum and they are soooo cute! Can’t talk my husband into chickens yet or a horse! love Red Barn!

This review is for the Granada Hills location on Balboa. I went in recently to buy my dog some hardy chewy sticks. After selecting a few, I picked another that snapped as I GENTLY put my thumb on it. I said, «I guess I’m buying it though it is not what I really want.» The two cashiers said, «Yes, you have to buy it.» That tone did not set well with me. So I put all my items down, purchased the $ 3.49 chewy and walked out while calmly telling them they were being quite foolish for losing a big sale. I always make it a priority to shop small businesses (and buy Made in the USA products). Unfortunately, Red Barn’s poor customer service tossed the $ 54 purchase out the «barn door» to Petco.

I always come here to get all my supplies for my animals. The prices are excellent and service is always great. The employees here are always so helpful and nice and in a good mood:) I always tell people with pets to come here!

This place is very, very expensive. The expensive part was not the issue. I came and purchased a product. I came there to purchase more and they were out. The manager told me to call on Thursday and they will let me know if they have it in stock. The women said yes, and I asked her to make sure. I even made her describe the box and she said they do have it. I came there and the owner refuse to believe me and told me to leave. I was very upset, because I drove twenty five minutes one way and was lied to. I left upset and found a much better product and for less than half of the price delivered to my house.

Let’s be honest, my dog is 7-​years-​old and we’ve established a food brand that works for her. So I don’t particularly care about the variety of brands they have but rather if they have the brand I need…
For several years this place has carried the brand we use. Recently they informed us that the company has decided to pull their products and mostly sell online only. (The brand is by nature and it’s been difficult to find. It’s not in petco or petsmart. We’ve only seen it at red barn and cici’s pet supplies). Given this unfortunate news, the staff at Red Barn took the time to help us find and alternative brand that has the same quality and similar price as our usual brand. They also advised us to gradually introduce the new brand to our dog (which is information we already know but the fact that they went out of their way to give us advice was nice).
Keeping it real, it smells like a barn in there. It’s not like a petsmart where it’s designed with tiled floor, bright lighting, and smelled like cleaning product… but it caters to barn animals and it is what it is… =)

I love coming here because it’s local and family owned. Prices and selection are competitive with online vendors. Why buy online from a huge company when you can get the same thing in store and help a family business? Staff is knowledgeable and very helpful. I’ve read some of the negative reviews about customer service, and I can say that they aren’t the fuzziest of employees, but they have never treated my poorly. Also love that the location on Oxnard sells farm fresh eggs. They were so inexpensive, tasted great and the owner told me they came from happy chickens, what more could you want?!

I’ve been coming here for the last 5 years because they’re the only ones that carry my dog’s food and the people have always been extremely unfriendly. Today was a special occasion however, as there was a cat on the counter at the register that scratched me and tried to bite me as I was paying. Needless to say, the employees were unapologetic. It’s quite obvious they work in a barn, as they’ve adapted the manners of the animals that share their place of business.

This place has everything! If you’re looking for snacks for your pet turtle, bedding for a hamster, lizard food, advice on how to care for a ferret, or the more mundane dog and cat food and supplies — The Red Barn has it all! Granted, it’s not the cheapest place in town, but if you go online, they have a perpetual $ 5.00 off any purchase coupon. So, if you need rabbit food, or want to start a chicken coop — this is the place to visit.
They will load your car for you, and have a wealth of advice for all your large and small animal needs. And free popcorn, too! Horses, llamas, alpacas, and boa constrictors are all services here! One stop shopping at a little bit of a «convenience premium».

At my favorite one stop dog shop. This is the place to be if you want quality food for whatever pet you own. They even carry the dog shots if needed. I love the staff and the unlimited supply of great animal products.

My in-​laws live nearby, so whenever we visit we like to take advantage!
This is a great place to get a bale of hay for our bunnies. It’s pretty inexpensive and they’ll break it down and put in bags for us so we can drive it home. It lasts for months, which is awesome!
I stopped by last night for their Black Friday sale and got a really good quality carrier. Not a huge selection of carriers, but they had exactly what we needed. Staff was really friendly and helpful.

I will no longer frequent ANY of the Red Barn locations… Customer Service is terrible!
I have been a loyal customer for many many years. Along with all of my family/​friends. I have several animals. I also work with rescues and foster animals, which requires frequent supplies.
I have been trying to purchase large packages of horse shavings for several weeks, but they are continually out of stock. On more than one occasion, I have called the GH location to find out if they have shavings in stock. Each time I’ve been told YES.
I live 25 minutes from that location. When I arrive, I’m then told NO they do not have the item I’m looking for & never did… and they are waiting on a shipment. Which means, they never had it & the employees never bother to (physically) check. Although I have asked them if they are sure (they have the item) because I’m driving from the Burbank area to Granada Hills.
This a complete waste of my time and gas!
I contacted the main store in Tarzana today to ask if they had the item in stock and explain the situation. I also expressed due to the situation, I felt a discount was appropriate. They always have a $ 5 coupon circulating (on a $ 40 purchase). It cost me way more than $ 5 in wasted gas, driving down to the GH store, TWICE!
The General Manager «Jose» told me he would not honor that. Although his employees made the mistake multiple times. He also told me he was WILLING to lose my business over $ 5!!! WOW… REALLY??? I told him I was going to buy multiple packages of the shavings I needed, he still refused.
I told him, I don’t think the owner would want to lose a customer over $ 5. However, he felt that was chance he was willing to take, He was also aware that I’d be writing this negative review.
So I still won’t be shopping at Petco/​Petsmart, but I will give my money to Red Barn’s competitors. Ironically, I may end up spending a few dollars more, but I’m willing to do that based on principle alone!
And along with my business, my family, friends, referrals & all the people I send to Red Barn from the rescue I work with… We will now give our business to their competitors!
I sure hope the owner reads these reviews (because there are many others like mine) and takes them seriously. In this economy, it’s bad business to lose a customer over a few dollars!

Terrible people, just
business is donating a good amount of money to a dog rescue. i was told to come here. i approached both employees asking for help. and was treated very very badly and rudely. I’m not a very picky guy but this was so rude we had to just
make it even fun, I went outside to call the rescue and in front of my employee they talked crap about me. We will spend our charity money for a great cause somewhere else that wants our business!

This is my third time shopping there. The customer service is very poor, as if they are doing me a favor by taking my $ 57.
If you don’t like working with public — DON“T!
I asked for puppy shots they didn’t have it – a snarly comment «too many people were doing it wrong!» Well, lady, you took their money!
The parva shots I got from them — no Ice pack. I asked — they glared.
I got a very expensive lamb chews for my pups. The sales person just hands it to me, then comes an afterthought — «Oh, you wanted a bag?»
I don’t like calling people c*nts but in this case «Yes, RED BARN C*NTS, I want a bag, and a smile, and a „Come again“»

They are always out of feed! Call and have them set it aside or they will sell it before you can blink!

I love the Red Barn for their selection and variety of pet foods. They have foods for almost any type of pet that one could own. I go here mostly for dog and cat food but if you look around, they have food for Horses, sheep, goats, Guinea Pigs, Hamsters and many more.
You can also find saddles for horses. They have traditional saddles as well as English riding saddles. There is a good selection of bridles and reins.
They also carry a good stock of Straw and alfalfa for feeding your horses. They sport a nice collection of different watering devices for large and small animals. You can also find a cool selection of dog houses in different shapes and sizes.
Did I forget to mention that they also have bird food? Shame on me. lol
There are a couple isles of dog and cat toys along with collars and leashes.
Don’t worry if you cannot get to them or even if you are not able to carry several bails of hay in your car or truck. They do have delivery service for a nominal fee.
They also have a large pile of firewood for sale.
I am happy that they held out on selling their property to the Metro system which caused the Orange line to divert around them in a creative method.
This is definitely a nice place for all of your pets needs.
