This Dentist and Tarzana Dental Center do not care about the well-​being of their patients. Their first priority is the almighty dollar. I chose this office because it was near home and they took my insurance. I went in for tooth pain and they told me that I needed a root canal, but that their specialist who performs them was not covered by my insurance (Anthem Blue Cross). They quoted me approximately $ 1900 (which they wanted me to pay out-​of-​pocket) for the entire procedure. Of course, unbeknownst to me, they quoted me their top-​of-​the-​line crown. Why? They said it was because it was the most aesthetically pleasing and was cosmetically, the best option. When I told them I couldn’t afford it, they offered to finance me through their own financing company. They never told me that they were obligated to find me a specialist that took my insurance. They were banking on the fact that I was in pain, to take advantage of me. Once I confronted the staff member Rosie about this, I was told that she did indicate that to me, but that it would take weeks to transfer the Xrays and get approval from the insurance company. I pressed the issue, and shockingly enough, it only took one day to transfer my information, and this was during the holiday season. Under obligation, they referred to me another office. At said office, I learned that the tooth in question was a wisdom tooth. You know, the teeth that most people have removed. Most dentist’s won’t bother to do a root canal on a wisdom tooth, because it’s too difficult to get all the way back there, and really, what is the point? An extraction from the new doctor’s office would cost me $ 25 out of pocket. That’s quite a difference from $ 1900. Still not sure why I would need the most aesthetically pleasing crown on a wisdom tooth, which is never even seen. But I digress. Unfortunately, I was obligated to book an extraction with Shamshian’s office or I would have to wait a month, in pain, to change doctors. The quote I received from Shamshian’s office for the extraction was approximately $ 280 (out of pocket). Almost 11 times more expensive than that other office. I ended up calling the insurance company and asking for an emergency switch-​over to the new doctor. I was lucky, and they obliged. I wouldn’t recommend Shahin Shamsian or Tarzana Dental Center to my worst enemy. I’m sure someone from their public relations department will be responding to this post, because they can afford things like that, and they can afford fancy Youtube videos of their happy customers, because they over-​charge patients in need, so that they may cover up their morally deplorable business model. Shame on you Shahin, and shame on Tarzana Dental Center.

Do not go there! I saw he had bad reviews but I thought I’ll give him a chance. Well, I was wrong!
I needed a cleaning for my bottom teeth so I can get my braces on. He told I need a full set of X-​Rays, and asked if he can do the cleaning without the X-​Rays because I had a full X-​rays 1 month ago. He told me very arrogant that he can loose his license if he does a cleaning without X-​rays!, because I can have an infection in my gums. Really?As a dentist you can’t put a diagnosis on an infection based on a clinical. He did not even took a look at my gums, which by the way look ok and I have no problems.
Like I was an idiot and have now clue what a medical license means or how can you loose it.
It was very obvious that he was just trying to rip me off! Very unprofessional and embarrassing!

Be careful, it’s all a scam at this offce! He is so unfriendly, didn’t even introduce himself & we were new pts. He told us our son has two fillings when in fact he had none, it’s a good thing I didn’t let them touch his teeth!!! Not sure where he received his license? It’s all about the money so be very careful & get a second opinion!

It was my fault not to seek a second opinion!!!
It was the third time (I take my kids the dentist office every 6 months).
«Again???» «Are you serious?» «a few thousand dollars (again!!!) to treat (filling) cavities (4) ???»
None of 4 were required any treatment according to a second and a third opinion of other DDS!!!
I am not worthy!!! I hate myself not to be skeptical!!!

Very nice and professional staff and great dentist. They are extremely friendly and make you feel comfortable. The office is lovely and very clean, the equipment is very up to date. I had a very great dental experience here.
I recommend Dr. Shamsian to all my friends and YOU too! He is simply the best!

Dr. Shamsian and his staff are awesome! I needed a root canal and the amazing part about this is that Dr. Shamsian’s office is a full specialty office meaning that I didn’t have to go to a whole different office it was all done in the same office! The root canal specialist Dr. Kakoli is great at what he does during the procedure I didn’t feel ANYTHING! Truly happy with my dental office!!!

I would be very careful when you visit this office. Don’t take everything they say as the gospel especially if you are a first time visitor. I learned a lot about my rights when you have dental insurance through my medicare plan. First if you know you have insurance coverage through an in-​network dental provider for a specific procedure get the procedure code. So that when they say you don’t have coverage for a specific procedure (like they told me) you can stop whats going on and call your medical provider to discuss your coverage before anything is done and before you sign anything. You have certain rights under your insurance guidelines.
There is no doubt in my mind that their acts are questionable but they are also very careful and they take every measure to protect themselves by having you sign documents before any procedure is done. First, without getting into to much detail I was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. I had surgery and radiation along with MRI s every 6 months to monitor.
Now, I’m not trying to get any sympathy from anyone, the point I’m trying to make is I was in a lot of pain when I was there. Since I trusted them and I believed them when they told me I had no coverage through my insurance plan, I used my credit card to pay $ 710 out of pocket for an oral biopsy surgery that was done in the office. Keep in mind I went to an in-​network dental office to get the surgery done.
I found out after my oral biopsy surgery that I had coverage for this procedure when I called my medicare provider. The medicare provider told me there should have been an initial visit charge but the biopsy surgery was covered. At first I gave this office the benefit of the doubt and I called them and informed them that I had coverage for this procedure and if they could send the claim to my medicare provider so that they could pay them so that I could get reimbursed.
Since I signed the contract I was told by the dental billing department that the medicare provider would have to pay me. I was beyond shocked. I didn’t know what to do. After several calls to my medicare provider and the dental office without getting any resolution I disputed the payment with the credit card that I used to make the $ 710 payment. Guess what? That’s when everybody woke up and when somebody is not getting their money… they react.
It took me about 7 months to get my money back from my medicare provider after I submitted all the paperwork that they needed. The memo that I received from my medicare provider stated «Since you went to an in-​network-​provider you were mistakenly charged by Shamsian Shahin, DDS. Mistakenly? Well… that’s a nice way of putting it. All this could have been avoided if the dental office would have sent the claim to my medicare provider initially.
I’m I’m not trying to cheat anyone or hurt anyone s business because we all have to make a living. But… as you go through this life no matter how long it is you have to have the courage to speak up when you know your being taken advantage of.
I’m sure I’ll get some witty response… save it… because I know «Money is the Motivating Factor.» How do I know this because I received a second bill from Omnipath Diagnostic clinic for $ 130. The clinic that gave this office the results of my oral biopsy. Unfortunately since there are deadlines with my medicare provider and the claims department I had to pay out-​of-​pocket for this one.
Leadership starts at the top and when it fails the staff also fails. People, Process and Product that’s what a customer who is paying for services wants to see.

I have been bringing my kids to Dr. Shamsian’s office for many years. They are always very professional and any work done has been virtually painless. Thank you Dr. Shamsian and your great staff!

Dr. Shamsian has been my dentist ever since I first came to L.A. 11 years ago. He and his staff are very personable and professional. I had a lot of periodontal issues when I first started seeing Dr. Shamsian, and they have since cleared up. I love the fact that he is constantly updating his office to use the latest technology, and I have complete confidence in him and his staff.

I’ve been bringing my son here for the past three years and it has been a wonderful experience. The doctors are great with kids, they’re patient, gentle, funny. And the staff is always friendly and helpful specially Noemi she’s a sweetheart, any concerns I have with my insurance she’s there to help. I highly recommend Dr. Shamsian.

Have been visiting Dr. Shamsian for a few years now along with my 8 year old daughter and we just love the service we get on every visit… The staff always welcome us with a sincere smile and always makes sure my kid and my self feel special…
Noemi has always been very helpful and professional… She has always makes sure I’m fully satisfy with the service I’m getting and the price I’m paying… She makes sure I take full advantage of my insurance so less will come out of my pocket at the time of my visit… With staff like Noemi is one of the many reason I return to Dr. Shamsian

Deep clean!!! Lol had a appt today they do push that deep clean like bad crack! The girl ran off a bunch of numbers and at the end wanted to charge me $ 1400 on top of my insurance *clutched my pearls, felt like there was a gun and I was being robbed*, was even nice enough to offer the «payment plan» though I have 10 500 in care credit I wasn’t about to impulsively pay that kind of money besides something felt off the aggressive nature in which I was being sold or my innate distrust of most ppl trying to get my money. She kept saying it would only take «2 secs to set up» nah I’m cool so made another appt for a few weeks later and will in that time see a new dentist because clearly we need a second opinion dealing with this place my teeth wasn’t even cleaned because they insist it’s best to deep clean and that’s all they were interested in doing even though I clearly said no I have an extra tooth in my gum that barely descended that he didn’t even notice looking at my X-​ray I had to bring it up he went «where?». Smfh! Fwd today I called my insurance company to find out WTF and I was informed dr. Shamsian is no longer a provider with them. Where the ethics doc?! Not only was I told by noemi or what’s her face that he still were he himself told me my plan wouldn’t cover the procedure which it does instead of telling me he doesn’t accept my insurance or isn’t suppose to anymore.

I hate to write a negative review for Dr. Shamsian’s office considering the fact that I had a lot of work done and I refuse to believe that they ripped me off with my treatment. Let me just say that I am suffering now at the cost of getting all this work done. After my treatment at this office I am now sensitive to cold (I have to drink all cold beverages through straws and be careful to not let cold liquid hit my teeth), I’m now sensitive to hot drinks (everything has to be room temp or slightly warm), I can’t chew on almonds or anything hard anymore, I have a tooth that «shocks» me when I bite on it. I did mention this to Dr. Shamsian and he didn’t offer any solution… Just that it could be sensitivity to all my work done. (Also it’s not a high bite, as he adjusted my bite many times).
However this review is not about me, it’s about my son. He had an appointment here last week and they told my husband that my son had 2 cavities that needed to be filled. Also wanted to charge $ 95 for a deep cleaning. Although he ended up getting the deep cleaning at no cost, my husband sensed something shady going on and we decided to not get my son’s fillings done here.
Today I took my child to his PREVIOUS primary dentist to check out his teeth. They took new x-​Rays and turns out, HE DOES NOT NEED ANY FILLINGS DONE!
Seriously?! Dr. Shamsian was about to start DRILLING ON MY CHILD FOR NO REASON?! What kind of «professional» does this?!
I could go on and on about how messed up this office is. They are all crooks. Both Dr. Shamsian’s should have their licenses taken away. And Noemi who handles the finances should not be trusted. There are other reviews on here that state they are crooks as well.

I love Dr. Shamsian he is by far the best Dentist. I have been going to him for 10 years and I am very happy with all of his treatments, staff, office and gentle touch.

Nice staff and pleasant doctor, but they really push the «deep cleaning» (for $ 700‑1200!!!). I happen to know that I did not need it at all based on my usual dentist’s assurance and my history of perfect gum/​tooth health, but they insisted I should do it asap.

I went last week for a cleaning and checkup. There are two brother doctors working there. The older brother took care of my exam, and he was very helpful and made me feel comfortable the entire time. I’m not sure if you can use the phrase «good bedside manner» for a dentist, but he does an excellent job making me feel comfortable. I had no cavities :)
The younger brother handled my cleaning. It was one of the best cleanings I’ve had. He said something like «I clean someone’s teeth the way I’d want mine to be cleaned… I want to feel comfortable.»
All in all, everything was great. The only place I think could use some improvement: I would feel more comfortable if they didn’t use computer equipment, like the mouse, with the same gloved hand they use to put fingers in my mouth.

What a WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE. I have always been afraid of going to the dentist. I did not feel any pain whatsoever. Not even a needle stick. The experience was all round great. Friendly staff, very professional doctor. He is so nice and gentle I was not worried. He explained everything ahead of time and was very caring during the whole time. Three fillings didn’t take more than 30 minutes and I was out of there off to dinner 1 hour later.
Thank you Dr. Shamsian. You are the GREATEST. I decided to bring my kids to your office in addition to all of my friends and relatives who are scared of dentists.
