Liza’s Nails

My husband and his family are from Ridgefield Park. We are here from California visiting family and friends and are staying in Teaneck for the time being. I needed my nails done so I Unilocaled nearby locations. Liza’s nails was walking distance to where I’m staying and I decided to call this morning and ask for an appointment. When the lady answered (I suspect it was Liza) I said that I was interested in an appointment for a gel mani/​pedi. She told me to come in at 11:30. I got there 5 min before my appointment and the older lady who I think is Liza looked at me like she wasn’t expecting me. I reminded her that I had called over the phone. She then instructed me to pick a color. Both nail technicians were not friendly or welcoming at all.
Once I pick my gel colors, the younger girl told me to go ahead and sit in the spa chair. So I walk over she tells me to sit «on this side» (she’s blocking me turning off the water and I patiently wait). She then barks at me, «this way». I tell her that I’m just waiting for her to move. Geez. Super rude.
Anyway, when she finishes her client 10 – 15 min after I got there she comes over to start the pedicure. I tell her that I have gels on my toes. She immediately had this irritated expression on her face. She gets up without saying anything and walks out of the salon and goes next door and buys aluminum foil. I’m shocked that a nail salon is not already equipped with the basics especially if you do gels.
She comes back and continues. Sorry but the girl is an amateur. She clearly didn’t know what she was doing. Then she asks me if I have gels on my hands as well and I tell her yes. I can feel that she was annoyed with me. She then takes the gel nail polishes I had put aside and said, «which one did you plan to use?»
I pointed out which one I wanted for my fingernails and which one I wanted for my toes. She looks at me like I’m crazy for wanting gels on my toes. And tells me that they don’t do gels on toes and if I wanted her to find me another regular polish that resembles that particular color. I was caught off guard and was thinking wtf?!? So the older lady chimes in and says that they can do gel on toes but that they will charge me $ 35.
I tell them that’s fine. So I can sense that I’m apparently causing some kind of trouble. Lol. They both are visibly irritated. I asked the girl if it’s unusual to get gels on your toes here. It would make sense because the weather is colder here this time of year and everyone is wearing shoes/​boots. I’m live in a beach town in LA and it’s usually warm over there and I wear sandals almost all year long. I’m not trying to brag I swear. I wished we had seasons over there and we don’t. Which is one of the reasons we visit during this year because I envy the beautiful fall weather here. So she answers that it’s just «an inconvenience» for them.
Wow. Okay.
Anyway… She brings over a bowl and tells me to soak both my hands. So I say okay. I’m a little confused… Am I suppose to squeeze both hands in one bowl? Or is she going to just have me alternate hands like some places do or is she going to bring me another bowl? I continue texting with one hand and soak my other hand. The older lady comes and says, «Can you please soak both hands? We have clients coming in…» basically rushing me. Whoa okay so you do want me to soak both of my hands in these tiny bowl. As the younger girl continues my pedicure she is having a hard time removing the gels. She’s trying to use a file the whole time. I didn’t want to tell her how to do her job but I was looking at the right tool that my nail ladies back at home use to easily take them off. It was so frustrating. When she finished there were still pieces of gel stuck on both my fingernails and toes. She was also using some ancient tool I have never seen before and using paper towels verses towels.
She also did a poor job at cutting and filing my nails. The older lady then instructed her in Spanish to move me from the spa chair to the regular desk to finish up. At this point I was done. I told her that I was going to pay for what she did and leave. She said okay and charged me $ 23. They didn’t seem apologetic or anything. Talk about bad business. I showed my husband what she did and he even he was shocked.
So now I’m at Super Star nails in Palisades Park and this is the type of service I am use too. The ladies here were surprised at what a bad job the girl at Liza’s nails did. But they cleaned it up. Thank god.
I definitely don’t recommend this place to anyone. Not only because of their rude service but the girl that was doing my nails was a straight amateur. I will tell all of our friends and family that live nearby to avoid this place at all costs.

Liza’s Nails is a very small salon, with two pedicure chairs and two manicure chairs, so it’s probably best to call first just in case. The salon is immaculate and it appears that they disinfect and sterilize their tools and equipment, so I feel comfortable coming here. I’ve had a wax done here and a manicure, and both turned out well. The prices and services are clearly posted on the wall, and both Spanish and English are spoken here. Minus 1 star just because I’ve been in fancier salons with all sorts of bells and whistles, but that is the only reason. Overall this is a nice, quiet, relaxing nail salon with solid service. I’ll be back!
