La Quinta Inn Tehachapi

Worst hotel experience in years. We were exhausted after a long days drive. Booked the room from the road since it was fri night. We’ve stayed in decent La Quintas before. This one was clearly on the downhill side. Front desk was nice enough but once we reached the hallways, decline. Not very clean and worn. Our room had the usual smells. The bathroom seemed ok, until we looked into the shower. Looks like they had been working on the drain and didnt button up. Mat sitting cockeyed in the bath tub and the metal drain plug sitting in the middle of the tub.
Pulled down the blankets to get in bed and found a plastic spoon sitting on the sheet. The pillows didn’t look great either. My wife thought someone had just slept on them judging from the wrinkle patterns. One pillow, the case was so worn you could see thru it. Room clock read 4am. Guess too much trouble to set it.
Bed very uncomfortable on top of the fact I didn’t even want to be in it. Barely slept. I gotta learn to walk out of dumps like this.

worst place I have ever stayed at. I chose to stay here because there were several motels that looked pretty crappy. After my first night, I found out that several of my items had been stolen during the day while my daughters and I were out of the room. When I tried to let the manager know she pretty much treated me like I did not exist and did not care. She said she asked the maid and the maid said she didnt take anything, so she made it pretty obovious that she thought i was lying. Then I kept calling after leaving to try and get this resolved, and I kept getting her voicemail and no return call. The manager is wretched and defends her lying thieving employees. Then I took it up a notch and tried to complain to corporate, still nothing. No return e-​mail, no return call, no nothing. They have absolutely no customer service and do not care about the people that choose to stay here. I am sure this is not an isolated incident, im sure this has happened to may people and they choose not to address the situation and keep letting their employees steal! Will never stay at a la quinta ever again in my life!

Nothing special about this place. We ended up here because of a snow storm and well, we had no other place to go to.
The room and bathroom were clean, the sheets were clean, the appliances worked as did the wifi.
And they restocked food for breakfast when it started to run out.
Service was decent. They had to be given that the snow storm time was the only time they were going to see customers.

Good value for the money. Room was clean, bed was comfortable, and the staff was nice and helpful. The breakfast, which was scheduled to start at 6 a.m., actually started earlier, and that was nice because I wanted to get an early start for my morning drive to Flagstaff.
Only problem was with the wireless internet. I had to call the toll-​free number to get connected, and when I did get connected it was very slow. I got disconnected a little later, through nothing I did, and then couldn’t get back on.
I wouldn’t stay here again if I absolutely needed a reliable internet connection. But if I didn’t, I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

We were very pleased with our stay! I called to ask how reserving a room through a booking site worked when you have dogs. He said no biggy just book it and in the comments tell us how many dogs you have. So we did. & we got a great deal on the room plus free stay for our 3 mutts. The room was bright and clean when we arrived. Very comfortable king size bed with 5 fluffy pillows. Our German Shepard enjoyed sleeping on the couch in the room. Breakfast this morning was very impressive. A full spread: cereal, yogurt, pastries, bagels, boiled eggs, biscuits and gravy, waffles, coffee & juice. And everything tasted fantastic!

Very disgusted in this hotel. We had a reservation to come in today on Thanksgiving. When I called the hotel to cancel because my transmission went out on my car, the manager not only refused to refund me, but he refused to let me STAY at ANY other dates. He would not let me change my date to a future date to use their hotel!!! Absolutely disgraceful!!! Disgusting and PATHETIC!!! Shame on YOU!!! Oh and HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU TOO!!!

This place does not do the La Quinta brand any favors.
So many things did not work: no AARP or AAA discounts, one room phone could not call another room, refrigerator not cold (no adjustment knob), showers do not hold temperature (surprise bursts of very hot or very cold), patio screen door with broken roller (did not open), no hook on bathroom door (the base was there, just no hook). Unlike most other La Quintas, breakfast was sad: no scrambled eggs, no biscuits for the gravy, no cut up fresh fruit, the bacon was gone by 7:15 and not replenished by the mostly absent attendant. Tables were not wiped after use. Et cetera, etc., etc. And no indication from the front desk that anything might change anytime soon.
I had the impression management ran the place on a shoestring, relying on the good reputation of other LQ hotels and its low advertised price to lure in customers from the endless stream of weary travelers.
I will stay at La Quinta motels again, just not this one.

This is an older property that needs some upgrades and better maintenance. It is a two story property, but has no elevator. The air conditioners are in the window and are so loud it’s hard to sleep. From our window we could see the garbage bin that was overflowing with bags of garbage on the ground around it. The room itself was okay with a refrigerator and microwave. Everything was clean and maintained. The breakfast was fair, but the area around the food was not as tidy as it could be. There was someone wiping the tables, but we did not see the food area wiped down. Plus, the garbage needed to be dumped. Would we stay here again? No!

I was a head an hour on time and planned my departure before the free breakfast opened up. The night manager behind the desk opened up the breakfast area and told me to grab whatever I wanted to take with me. Awesome! See you on my return trip!

Nice place with pool and hot tub. Clean and comfortable, waffles for breakfast in the morning downstairs as part of their free breakfast. The only downside on our visit were other guests that were very noisy.

Even after staying here, I have my doubts.
We came to this area because of a scooter competition at Woodward West. I found this motel on
and at $ 89 per night, it was somewhat less than the alternatives, and the proximity made it better than getting something cheaper at Bakersfield and trying to be at Woodward West at 8 a.m. still.
When we arrived, the people ahead of us were having trouble with their cards. That didn’t make me feel comfortable, after reading some reviews here.
They let me check into the motel, in order to see if waiting would help. The desk clerk seemed okay, but as I was to find later, wasn’t paying attention. He got the price right, of course, but it seems that he slipped up, and only authorized the room keys for one night. Thankfully, they didn’t disturb our things, thinking that we were only paying for one night.
The room was on the second floor, not too far from the stairs. All access is through the main lobby.
The room had two queen-​sized beds and had been refurbished. Thankfully, the electrical outlet under the desk had not been changed to one of the loose kind that I find discourages charging.
There was a mini fridge and microwave oven, along with a nice bathroom, and a usable balcony with a sliding glass door.
The breakfast room is on the first floor, down the hallway from the stairs and the lobby. It was rather packed, and nothing looked as good as Jack in the Box.
It’s a good location, but there isn’t much at this exit other than Love’s and a Chevron station and convenience store with Noble Romans Pizza. I can’t say that I would stay here again, unless I was going to Woodward West for another event. It’s my first experience with La Quinta and it wasn’t horrible, but it was somewhat worrisome.
Update 2015.04.03: Well, the chain asked and I completed their survey. Obviously, I wasn’t pleased about the temporary lockout. I got «I appreciate your feedback; this is definitely not the experience we want you to have when staying with us! Your feedback will help us improve our operation.»
However, from the other reviews here on Unilocal,I don’t think anything will change. Hopefully, things will become better.

Would I recommend you stay at the La Quinta in Tehachapi? Well… maybe… but here are some things you should bring:
1. A dog. Because their pet policy (no charge, no hassle) is the best thing it has going for it.
2. Towels. Because theirs are not large enough to dry a small dog… and they’re so old and worn I wouldn’t use them on my little dog.
3. A computer with a HULU/​Netflix, etc… subscription. Because they have a terribly limited selection of TV stations.
4. Plans for breakfast. Because their «free breakfast» is awful. Bad coffee, stale pastries. And the garbage is overflowing in the breakfast room so a strong stomach helps too.
5. Patience. Because your keys will stop working every time you leave the room, meaning you won’t be able to enter the hotel through any entrance other than the main one. Semi-​pro tip… just park near the main entrance knowing your room keys will never work.
6. A sleeping companion you don’t mind being super close to. Because their regular rooms have double beds that are so tiny… I didn’t know US hotels came with beds this small.
7. Blankets. Because the teeny tiny bed has one old worn out blanket on it and you’ll likely freeze throughout the night. Don’t turn on the heat though because it’s an old, loud unit that will quickly turn your room into an oven. Good choices all around.
8. Toiletries. Because they provide only cheap soap and one little bottle of combo shampoo/​conditioner. Also a hair dryer because the one in the room is an antique with no power.
9. No interest in technology. Because this is old school 1970’s motel and there are not enough outlets in convenient places to charge your devices without unplugging the (antique?) clock or a light fixture.
I could go on and on… If you pay full price for this, you are out of your mind and you are going to be furious. I booked on Priceline for around $ 60 and that was still too much. The ONLY thing this place has going for it is a lot of parking and the pet policy. You should stay here ONLY if you are bringing a dog or two and have unlimited patience — and you nabbed an amazing deal on Priceline. This is the dump everyone else says it is.

Apparently they don’t like locals staying at their hotel, or even allowing them to book for family or friends. Not a good reputation to have in such a small town.

I seriously can not wait to come here again! This place is AWESOME!
I’m giving this place 4 well deserved stars, because it’s practical, quiet and the price is right.
I found out about this La Quinta Inn being pet-​friendly through another pet travel site and sure glad I did. I think this is the only place around that is pet friendly that won’t charge you a ridiculous fee for your pet.
The rates here go anywhere from 89 to about a little over $ 100 and your pet stays for free, unlike Bakersfield area will charge $ 110 per night plus pet fee starts at $ 20 per night per pet and goes up to $ 50 depending on which hotel you choose.
I arrived at midnight and the guy at the front desk was super friendly warm and welcoming and he even helped me get a discount with an AARP card.
The check in was about 5 minutes and we came into a nice and clean room that had 2 queen beds, tv, heater, fan, mini coffee maker and tiny fridge.
I gotta say this was one of the most restful nights I’ve ever had in a hotel. The beds were very clean. No bedbugs or any insects of that sort. The beds themselves were super comfy and the place looked very well maintained for it being old.
Another great thing about this place is that it’s right off the freeway and about 5 – 7 minutes away from a Starbucks and a few other restaurants you can checkout before you head back on the road.
There was plenty of parking and there was even a good amount of grass for your dog to do it’s bathroom business. This place is amazing and I highly recommend this hotel for anyone who travels with pets. You won’t regret!

REALLY nice staff (Lali is her name) very helpful. Room seems clean. There were some ants in the bathtub… but bathroom is clean… I think it’s the harsh weather around here that brought the ants in. (There are few places that are good to eat, but you won’t go hungry in this town, either.) I felt I got a good deal. I will return to this place

This place sucks. Gave me one price over the phone then I drove here and the price changed. On top of that, charged me for another night after I checked out.
Worst service ever. Front desk is completely clueless

I reserved a king bed downstairs and when I got here they only had a double upstairs. The bathroom light doesn’t work and the top lock on the room door is broken. The room is clean and staff was friendly, but the place needs a lot of work in the older part.

Hotel of Last Resort
WiFi does not work & we are SV techies. Room is not secure — someone broke off the security lock. Find another place. They say the manager will give us a refund tomorrow.

[Location] — La Quinta is located off of the freeway, out of the main stretch of town. There’s a restaurant /​bar in the building next to it and a gas station/​convenience store next to that. I would say that makes it really convenient to get a drink or a snack at odd hours. I like that it is away from town because being closer to town would limit parking like it does at other hotels.
[Room] — We stayed in a room with two queen beds on the ground floor. It was pretty quiet with the exception of dog barking a couple of times. The TVs are flat screens mounted to the walls so there is more surface area for placing one’s belongings. The mattresses were rather on the firm side, even for my liking, and this was in spite of being incredibly tired. The pillows were of good, comfortable structure. Everything was overall clean and comfortable.
[Amenities] — I was able to access the WiFi on both my laptop and my iPod without issue. The breakfast was pretty decent with offerings like pastries, bagels, toast, hard boiled eggs, biscuits with sausage gravy, orange juice, apple juice, coffee, tea, milk, cereal, oatmeal, and my favorite –waffles! Be watchful of your waffles though: Someone stole my waffle from the waffle iron while I was getting some water.
[Price] — At about $ 110 with taxes, it seemed fair. Would I like to pay less, of course. But too cheap and I probably wouldn’t have gotten WiFi, breakfast with fresh waffles, or the cleanliness or space I appreciate.
[Payment] — This place does not accept cash. Card is a must. This policy has been enacted due to theft and the destruction of property.
No pool or fitness facility in sight here but that’s okay –this is La Quinta and in Tehachapi no less.

The hotel is awesome there is nothing more I could have asked for in this place. Breakfast was yummy and there were different options. The rooms were clean and nice with new flat screen tv’s.
The only thing is the front desk staff a girl by the name Maresa was very very unprofessional and rude, she is very lazy and doesn’t seem interested in her job. We asked her a question and she replied back in a non friendly tone as if we were bothering her.
On the other hand the guy who checked us out Anthony was so professional and polite. He is an asset to your company.
Management is also very nice and made sure we enjoyed our stay.
We will give you guys another try but let that girl Maresa know that us customers can see how rude and lazy she is.
