Hanks has everything you could ever want. They have never failed me in terms of having the odd sizes and metric nuts and bolts. For that reason alone I would give them five stars!!! But, the overall attitude of the employees is just bad. It’s like they don’t enjoy their jobs ! No smiles, no hello or thank you. The ladies at the desk in the moldings building are really nice and friendly and I have had interactions with a few others that have been helpful. The Ladies and the guys sitting at the desks at the front desk of the main building are the first and last impression a customer gets when they are there and I have to say that impression is a 1 out of 5.
At least at Lowes and Home Depot they are attempting to be nice and customer service friendly.

First of all, what kind of hardware store closes at noon on a Saturday?! I literally only needed to buy a bag of quickset. It was 12:04 and there were several people in line waiting to pay. However, we were yelled at «We’re closed !» Not only is their business model completely flawed, but they have zero people skills. Finally, I will never shop at the store again, and as a professional contractor, I will tell all of my fellow contractors to never shop at that store again. And then they wonder why box stores like Home Depot beat out mom-​and-​pop stores!

Always a pleasure dealing with the staff @ Hanks. Even though their business had grown they didn’t sacrifice their service to the customer.

Fantastic corporate size Mom and Pop store. Everything and then some more, makes Home Depot, Ace and True Value look like a bad joke. I could spend hours just looking. Many, many items I would only expect in a specialty hardware catalog.

Very great service, was in and out in a matter in minutes. We were at Lowe’s last week looking for a fitting for our water tank, we stood in there for an hour and a half waiting for help. Finally someone came over, but he was just covering someone from plumbing who was on break; so he was no help. Walked in hanks, and we got our item and was gone in 15 minutes.

If you’re a contractor and know what you want and what you want it for (and don’t give a darn about friendly service with a sincere hello and thank you), Hank’s may be good place for you.
For all others, I would strongly recommend going to one of the big boxes. I moved to Temecula 13 years ago in the height of the boom and wanted to go to a local store. Over the last 13 years, the store has gotten consistently worse on customer service. They have passed the big boxes on intentionally avoided eye contact just so they don’t have to help you. When you do finally get an older gentleman to help you, the service is adequate, but most are rushing through it and act like they are doing you a favor.
The ladies up front are crabby and possibly used to work at the DMV. They NEVER say hello as you enter, even when they are standing there staring straight ahead. In 13 years, I bet I can count on one hand how many times a cashier actually thanked me for my purchase.
If you think this is a small town, homey, good neighbor feel, think again.
Hank has forgotten why he was able to expand and open all those other buildings.
He needs to send EVERYONE to a good manners, customer service seminar.
Hey, maybe they should just eat at Chic-​Fil-​A a few days a week and maybe it would rub off.
I doubt it. As they say, you can paint a zebra to look like a horse, but it’s still a zebra.
Sorry Hank… you fell asleep at the wheel the last 10 years.
At Least Lowes and Home Depot are back to «trying» to help customers.

I called on the phone to find a specialty item. I could not find at Lowe’s. They were super friendly and helpful. When I went the next day to go buy the item, again everyone was friendly and helpful.

I think they made it a goal to carry everything Home Depot and Lowe’s forgot about. This place has everything. Huge selection of hardware and a huge metric selections too. Tools, plumb and welding supplies, safety gear, painting supplies, towing gear, high reach off road jacks… Pretty much everything in one big store. The people are helpful and friendly too! I’ll be back for sure.

I found that Hanks has a good selection of hardware items and lots of floor personnel for excellent service. However I am furious that I got thrown out at noon on a Saturday and they are not open at all on Sunday. What a clear message to regular consumers to go to hell.

The staff here is, hands down, the worst. I have been hung up on twice today. They make you feel VERY unwelcome when in the store. Employees act as though they do not even see customers, walking right by with no eye contact or acknowledgement in the hope that customers won’t bother them. When addressed they almost whine the answer. Also, when a regular employee that works a specific area is out sick the others are totally unwilling to help. They say that «you’ll have to come back tomorrow when he’s here». That is unacceptable customer service. They are rude and lazy.

Hanks is such a cool place its great to see Small Town America is still thriving with family owned businesses.
Just a heads up they have every bolt, nut faster you would ever need with lots more on the shelves

When my general contractor first introduced us to Hank’s in 2013, we had a long list of things we wanted done to the house that required some special shopping. But after driving a half an hour to get here, we also discovered this is a boys toy’s paradise. Good enough, the Mr. Fixit in your life, or perhaps the Miss Fixit, will be lusting to return after their first trip here. So much to see, so many items to buy, some of which can be hard to find.
There are two buildings, one across the street from the other. The one bldg. carries all the hardware store items, tools, lumber. The other is more of a designer showroom, with a good display of classy doors, windows, fireplaces, high end hardware for those classy doors, etc. Oh yes, and choice moldings to dress up your home. No Home Depot here.
Of course, it certainly pays to call if it is that hard to find. This most recent time we didn’t call first and discovered they «didn’t carry it» too late. But the bottom line is, I remembered this place because I knew they had such vast, interesting stock.
We have not experienced the rude, crude customer service that reviewers are spewing epithets about. In fact, we had a pretty positive experience. So I take those criticisms with a grain of salt. If you get an attitude from someone, find someone else to help. They have been in business for a long, long time, and for good reason; you can still appreciate the uniqueness of this particular business and reap the benefits.

Rude crude and uncooth. Their customer service is terrible. Either these people are ALL miserable or they are racist and sexist… you be the judge. They get one star for their selection. The prices are better than big box stores but I will not be giving them my business anymore. I rather pay a little more and be treated well. Someone in Temecula please make a hardware store that locals can support!

Been there 10 – 12 times and EVERYTIME employees are sitting, constantly and consistently They just browse the internet, and will shout across the room to you if you have a question. In fact, I don’t think I have ever seen one of them come around the counter… so who even knows if they wear pants. When talking to them you can tell they have mastered condescending insincerity. The man in the back takes every opportunity to communicate his contempt for work or his job like he is a teenager having to do chores. They close promptly. Employees are out within seconds past 5, as you can tell they cannot wait to leave. Thier own disdain for their jobs is evident in their service. Product selection for wood trim and molding is amazing. Just prepare yourself that you are on the same level of door to door salesman interrupting their favorite TV show at home.

I want to like this place, but I just can’t. I feel strongly about supporting local business, spending locally and all that, but this place Really deserves to go out of business. Their customer service is possibly the worst I’ve ever seen. I’ve been here a bunch of times– mainly because they have a great selection of stuff that’s hard to find in the Big Box stores, but about 70% of the time they are RUDE, unhelpful and condescending. I’m talkin’ RUDE, folks! Avoid at all costs. One exception is that the guys in the lumber yard tend to be more helpful. Still not enough to merit my business. Go south down Diaz road and you’ll find HD White Cap, which is much better.

Customer service was awesome. Hank himself used his own truck to deliver lumber to me less than an hour after I purchased it. No more lowes or Home Depot for me! Prices are competitive on most items. I love the hometown hardware store feel! Keep it up.

Yes, service can be hit or miss, but, in general this is my first choice of hardware stores when working on a home project. Prices are a little higher, but not prohibitively so. I enjoy the small-​town atmosphere (which can go both ways), but also that I can get in and out quickly and with a minimum of computer-​age hassle. I’ve been coming here regularly for over 2 years now and am beginning to get to know where stuff is.

Came in looking for some nuts and bolts. The people are completely friendly and helped me find everything i was looking for. The ladies at the registers are super friendly and nice also.

This is a store that has items that may or may not be found elsewhere. Mainly for nuts/​bolts. There are always employees there, but not looking to be proactive in helping customers. They have very poor customer service. One can be wandering, looking for an item, and the staff is busy doing everything else but helping you.
Make sure you know what you need before you go, and be willing to spend time looking for the item you need.
Bottom line, nobody in the store cares .
So don’t expect much in service.
