On a budget and short on time, I needed a cut and decided to try out the PM School for the first time. I couldn’t have been more pleased with my experience had I gone to a full-​service (full price) salon! Jen, the stylist trainer/​instructor was so attentive and thorough I almost forgot that I wasn’t at a salon. A student did the actual cutting and styling but was guided by Jen the whole the time. She (the student) seemed very confident and and at ease, which put me at ease as well. The cut was exactly what I wanted. Jen also recommended a couple styling products that helped give my fine hair volume and smelled great, which I of course had to purchase to try for myself at home. I will definitely be back!

Don’t book an appointment online… they never get back with you. I liked the space here and the energy. .17 bucks for a shampoo, conditioner, cut and style is a deal you can’t really beat… hopefully you get a student that really listens… my last chick did a so-​so job… I don’t hate it but certainly dont love it. Had to fix my bangs once I got home. All in all I’ll be back… After the chick that cut my hair graduates in June.

Spent my day getting my hair colored by two amazing stylists Corinn and Jaydee (highly recommend them) they were very friendly, knew their stuff and professional. Even if they are just students these two will make it very far in the industry so take advantage of the cheap services now before they are able to charge a higher price lol. I know people have had some bad experiences with students at this school but these two are hidden gems. Although my hair color is a process I was still very happy with the outcome. Thanks girls I’ll be back for my second phase!!!

Wife used this place as a «give it a try» for a cut and color. Sooooo where do we begin. Probably with the price that changed 3 times. First the stylist and then her «coach» and then manager. Second comes the rush job because they were closing and the girl under-​estimated the time to do job. So the wife left without the color right and the toner applied. Girl wasn’t going to be back for 3 days to finish. Manager never apologized or attempted to help fix. Wife went to Great Clips off Winchester Rd and Brianna fixed her cut. Its a school, we get that, but fix your problems and not charge MORE then a standard cut price (which was supposed to be free with color). Not going back.

I spent a number of hours getting my hair colored by 2 amazing stylists, Hannah Kelly and Zena. The top is plum, with underlayers of hot pink, purple and blue. My hair is so freakin awesome! And for the bargain price of $ 83!
Everyone at the school was friendly and soo polite. Premises were clean. I’ll be back for my refresher. Call for your appointment now!

I went to the school mid December of this year in the hopes of getting a decent color job on my hair because I could no longer afford my regular hairdresser. I was long past due and I have tricky hair. I went to my appointment with Monique with my fingers crossed. From the moment I walked through the door until I left my experience was fabulous. The environment was clean, fun and the people were awesome! Monique and instructors talked to me and explained what they were going to do and after I was washed Monique gave me a deep conditioning and styled my hairl All I can say is FABULOUS! I left feeling and looking like a million dollars for less than ½ of what I normally paid! I will continue to get my hair done at Paul Mitchell, I highly recommend them and can’t wait to go back!

Looking at past reviews and I can’t think of anything to say besides DUDE, you’re getting your hair done at a school!!! Don’t expect your hair to be done perfectly like a person would at a professional 5 star salon. So give their students some slack. Don’t forget to tip them, please.
I came in as a drop in cuz it’s almost New Years and I wanted a new hairstyle. They were able to take me in under 10 mins due to setting up so that was nice. Justine cut and styled my hair and she did an amazing job! Definitely recommend her. I have super thick Asian hair and it was her first time working with my type of hair. She did a beautiful blowdry and round layers on my hair and I left completely satisfied. It was only $ 12 for a cut and style and I will most likely be coming here whenever I need or want a haircut. She practically did the same exact thing my usual hairstylist would do, but she charges me double the price for the same service. I’m planning on scheduling an appointment sometime soon to get a balayage because I really want to do something different with my hair. Also, don’t worry if you’re scared about a student working on your hair because there are professional teachers watching over them for guidance. To be honest, I was nervous at first to get my hair done by a student since this was my first time, but it went beautifully well.

I went to get my hair done here and I have long thick hair and told them on the phone. Well when I got there the girl who did my hair was so extremely rude and in front of me kept complaining about how long and thick my hair was and how it was going to take her such a long time to do it and she was going to have to be there all day. She ended up getting a friend to help her and it just made the venting about me worse. Her friend was very sweet and professional but the girl assigned to me. What does she expect when she goes to get a job? She’s not always going to have short haired customers.
Overall they did a good job and I get that they’re students but I’m not very understanding to the rudeness.
And yes I still gave her a tip

Well, maybe I should give them no star at all as I was refused for service at the door for accompanying my child. Made it clear it’s my first visit and called twice to schedule an app but they didn’t tell me no kids in the work area, rather looks like anatomy lab. Duh.

I have been attending Paul Mitchell school for their hair service since 2006 in Costa Mesa, CA. And have always had a positive experience there for their services.
SO! Why not attend a school out here near my work out here in the IE? I’ve attended here twice. This review will be based on my most recent visit.
My expectation from Paul Mitchell here in Temecula would be like any other location. BOY was I wrong.
I came in with ombré done previously by a professional.
I wanted to
A) bring up my ombré since it had grown out or
B) silver hair.
I asked the students/​instructors to assess it. My expectations is for the instructor to assess my hair and see what I can achieve with it. I honestly was expecting two visits to achieve my desired look. However, they were eager to get it in one.
The students are expected to learn and be guided by the instructors. However, I observed that they were fearful and hesitant to speak. VERY TIMID. I had two students who worked on my hair due to one student’s medical condition (tinnitus). Throughout the whole time, they were bickering with each other. Very unprofessional. Student A (tinnitus) couldn’t follow step by step instruction given by their instructor. Student B (red head) could but wouldn’t help out student A. Therefore, the client (me) suffers. The tension between the two was obvious. If you student do not get along at the work environment, learn to be cordial especially in front of a client! Student A had great customer service but inexperience. Student B is very short tempered — if she were to own a business she would have a lot of complaints based on her attitude.
You can train skills but you can’t train personality, kid.
This place ruined my hair due to poor guidance on the INSTRUCTOR’s end who we as consumer expect them to be experienced. I felt that they were winging it and do not know what they were doing, thus costed the conditioned of my hair (in addition, my wallet).
Yes, we are guinea pigs for the students — they are learning. I get that. However, it’s the instructors that I have an issue with. The students put in the labor, the instructors put in the brain work. They are the ones who set the plan and guide their students through that plan. Due to the instructor’s poor plan… THEY ARE THE ONES WHO NEEDED TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL AND BE RETRAINED.
Keep in mind the students were following their teacher’s instruction and had NO SAY. Why? It’s because they trusted their guidance and invested their money into this company in addition to being scared to speak up. Great way to teach your students on how to advocate for your client. Lack of integrity!
Students: learn to speak up, you’ll graduate regardless especially if you drop so much money to your school ($ 15−20k?). Get your money’s worth. One day you’ll be in the real world and realized that this school is sucking your money so you can have a «Paul Mitchell» on your resume instead of having a great learning experience. In fact, transfer to Costa Mesa — students there seem to be more at peace.
In coming students, go to Vidal Sassoon in LA. You’ll have a better learning experience than these inexperienced bricks who teaches here.
I came in with previous professional ombré, I left with GREEN HAIR with a halo and I spent 6 hours there. The instructors did a terrible job on teaching their students how to formulate their toner (mixing 1+2 etc).
They did not compensate me nor give me a discount (I paid $ 110) other than a 10% on the NEXT visit. Really? Come back?
If they had fully compensate me and offer to fix it for free due to their poor work, the tone of this review may have been a bit more positive.
6 hours spent for green hair costed $ 110 everybody!

I have been getting my hair cut, styled and colored by Lore at Paul Mitchell for several (5) months now. She is very attentive to my requests and extremely knowledgeable about the products best suited for my hair type. I see her every 4 – 5 weeks to have my gray roots touched up and it’s always a treat. I feel beautiful when I leave the salmon. She’s the first hairdresser who styles my hair better than me. If you like a nice scalp and neck massage, you will not be disappointed. I highly recommend her!

Really depends on who you end up as your hair stylist. For those who do not know, there are two kinds of hair stylists: a Phase 1 ($ 12) and and a Phase 2 hair stylist ($ 17). The difference is in the number of hours the stylist has put in and how much instructor supervision is required. I had a Phase 2 hair stylist, which means that they are almost done with the program and are require less instructor supervision.
My hair stylist was nice, but seemed unsure of how to handle my hair (wavy, dry, poofy). She ended up taking 2 ½ hours to shampoo, condition, massage my scalp, cut my hair, and blow dry. It took so long that she had to keep spraying my hair since it kept drying out. I didn’t notice until I returned back home that my haircut was noticeably uneven and overall looked weighty at the ends.
The nice part is that you can schedule to have your hair fixed for free, which is exactly what I did. I was much happier with the second hair stylist I had, who was more confident and had a better understanding of my hair. She took 1 ½ hours to do the exact same thing my first stylist had done and had the instructor come over twice to check.
So really, it’s a hit or miss depending on who you get as your hair stylist.

I had been wanting to update this review again for some time but I’ve been very busy. So my final verdict is to never visit this establishment again.
I didn’t notice at first, as I’ve never bleached my hair before (as I’ve stated numerous times in my previous reviews), but I believe they’ve fried my hair. Luckily for me, I have a lot of it, so it wasn’t too big of an issue except that now my hair is short and unhealthy. I pretty much wasted over $ 100 to damage my hair.
I still stand by the girls I recommended, I just will not be taking a risk with these people any longer. Also, my hair was not cut correctly. Again, it was something I had not noticed until more than a few people starting asking if they even cut my hair straight. They didn’t, and then I remembered a particular statement Christine said. She told the girl cutting my hair that I had a texture to where it’s never going to be even.
I’ve had two long term hair dressers prior to this in different locations, never heard that before. I leave this review with the same advice, just be careful when visiting this place, stick to something easy. Good luck.

Took an hour and a half to cut 1 in off my hair. And she made the ends more fried and tangled by «curling» my hair with a round brush while blow drying it.
Glad I wasted $ 17 to come home and put coconut oil on the tips (to calm down the frizz she created) and trimmed it a bit more myself because there was still so much dead hair left.
Training or not, don’t think she should be graduating in a week if I had to come home and do myself what I asked her to do in the first place. This isn’t rude, all I wanted was a simple trim, not that complicated.

I realize that this is a hair school and they are practicing. I COMPLETELY get that. I’ve been there a dozen times…
1. I had to tell the girl what the difference between a 0 and 00 clippers is. That they were not the same.
2. She took off a huge piece of my hair I repeatedly ask her to leave alone.
3. The girl talked the whole time about how she messed up her last clients hair.
4. I told her trainer I was uncomfortable with my girl and she told me– «well they are training.» And walked away.
5. I told the girl 5 times not to put pomade in my hair. Guess what she did?
6. After 2 hours of sitting pissed and uncomfortable I asked her to stop.
They did not make me pay when I told the front desk what happened and that I literally had to go somewhere right away to fix it. They were nice and understanding up front.
To the trainer– it’s my head… If I’m uncomfortable than its your job to help the girl or move me to someone else. I understand she is training, that doesn’t mean she can eff up my hair and not listen to me!

Great place to get your hair done at a bargain cost. I bring my daughter here for wash, blow dry and iron work. The work is performed by students so if you think Paul Mitchell is personally coming out to do your hair, you are mistaken. Nevertheless the instructors are honest with you when assessing the work you are asking for. My daughter has extremely thick and curly hair and they suggested that I take her to a curl specialist instead of having the students cut her hair. I appreciate that advice! They do a great job on the blow dry and ironing tho so we continue to return. Just be prepared to spend a few hours here… it’s worth it for the cost savings in my opinion.

PEOPLE, remember these are STUDENTS, and you’re getting your hair done cheap because of it for crying out loud!
There is so much more involved to a salon than just cutting hair. There is head and face structure, hair texture (straight, curly, thin, thick, density, color, condition, etc), time management, customer service, psychology and chemistry involved.
If you want a $ 400 cut, color and style, then go to Beverly Hills. If you want a really nice haircut, color, etc, aren’t in a rush, and want it done for a great price, this place is the best! Don’t you DARE bitch about getting a crappy job or how long it took! These people are learning and doing the best they can and really don’t deserve ANY negative comments here. And for the asswipes who are too redneck to leave these students a tip, shame on you. Don’t expect the moon for a bargain basement price.
I recently got a cut, color, and style here and the girl did awesome! Cindy was professional, sweet and listened. I will be back, because for the price and quality you get, these girls/​guys deserve our thanks, not whining spoiled brats.

I went here on ⁰⁴⁄₂₁ asking the girl at the front if a certain person was available to cut my hair and she wasn’t. No biggie, I then asked her if anybody else was available to cut my hair and she said, «yeah the salon down the street.» I was kind of in shocked and was like, «I’m sorry but what was that?» And the girl said…“yeah, there’s a salon down the sidewalk and they cut hair and STUFF”.
She was rude, had an attitude problem, and If I had a salon. I would not want her to work there. You never tell a customer to go to another salon.

I have been coming here now regularly to Christian. So far the service has been amazing. No more complaints. This place is awesome! I recommend Christian, Eboni, Holly and Michel’le
I have had root touch ups, hair cut, condition treatment, style etc. Since my first visit I have started seeing these ladies and I have brought my twin ten year old daughters here too. Again everything was professional and the services were great. The prices are beyond reasonable. I recommend going online to see the menu and pricing before calling for your first appointment. The school only offers services during certain days and times so it’s important to call ahead.
They do take walk ins but it’s recommended to call first. They give the best head massages! This place gets my highest recommendation!

Please allow me to explain:
When «Penelope» was asked initially to check my hair before services were started, she introduced herself as «Penelope» wearing a name tag belonging to Kristen. At that moment, I did not ask her why she was wearing a different name tag, thinking maybe Penelope was a name she would rather be called and not the name on the tag she was wearing. When she left the service area, I asked Leanna if the Learning Leaders name was Penelope or Kristen and further advised that I was asking because she was wearing a different name tag than the name that she introduced herself as. Leanna advised that the Learning Leaders name is Penelope and that another Learning Leader on the floor was named Kristen. I never came in contact with Kristen, so I am not aware if she was wearing the name tag that belongs to Penelope.
During my service, I witnessed Penelope introduce herself as Penelope to other clients while wearing the name tag belonging to Kristen. I did not think that this was professional. When Penelope was asked to check my hair again, I asked Penelope if her name was Penelope or Kristen and she advised that her name is Penelope. I asked her why she was wearing a name tag different from her real name and she stated: «I’m sorry, Kristen wanted to wear my name tag today so we switched.» I responded to her by saying: «You do not need to apologize to me, but it is unprofessional of you to be wearing a name tag that belongs to another person but introducing yourself with a different name. You should apologize to your students because this makes it uncomfortable for them when a client like me questions the integrity of their teaching professionals.» She walked away.
About 20 minutes later, I witnessed her switching name tags with Kristen and it was evident that she was talking about me because Kristen turned around and stared at me as she was putting on what I assume was the correct name tag.
My service completed without any issues; however, my goddaughter, Madison was still receiving her service and had about 2 additional hours to go so I left the salon to get her dinner.
I returned, sat in a salon chair while witnessing Madisons service be completed. Evelyn styled Madisons hair beautifully and when she asked Penelope to check Madisons hair, Penelope cut all of the curl from Madisons hair and told Evelyn to do it again. At that time, I noticed that Penelope was again wearing Kristens name tag.
When I paid for both our services (before leaving the salon to get dinner) I asked Marissa who Penelope and Kristens managers were and I was given your card. Apparently, while I was out retrieving dinner a few of the students that were at the front desk when I asked for your information went around the school talking about me complaining and asking for your information. It was further assumed that I would be complaining about Leanna and Evelyn.
The reason for my email to you today is because you work for a school in a professional setting working with clients to prepare your students to be professionals upon graduation. Please excuse me if I am out of line by questioning your Learning Leaders abilities to teach in a professional manner. I am going to assume that if your students played this childish game of «Lets be someone else today» they would be written up in some sort of manner. And, if by chance, this is an acceptable «game» to your school, I would think that in the professional world of Paul Mitchell, it would not be so acceptable in their corporate standpoint.
To some, this may seem like an email that could possibly be ignored simply because it does not affect the actual service that I received. The problem is that you are teaching students and your teachers are doing something that you would not allow your students to do. And because you have clients that are coming in contact with these teachers, it is actually necessary for your teachers to be professional at all times, I believe, while on the «floor.»
My experience at your salon was to receive a haircut and my goddaughter received a haircut and color (her first color) and those experiences were acceptable and I am grateful for the time that Leanna and Evelyn spent on doing our hair. But the professionalism shown by your Learning Leaders Penelope and Kristen is something not to be desired again. They are working an evening shift without supervision. I know this because I asked for their supervisor and was advised that no supervisors above Penelope and Kristen are working the evening shift. This problem is happening because they are not being supervised. If this is actually happening during other shifts with supervisors above Penelope and Kristen that would mean you have a problem within your school that needs to be corrected immediately.
