History

Established in 2012.

Hi, my name is TJ Davis and I am the owner of Saddle Up Wine Tours. I became very popular once I moved to the Temecula wine country: friends that I hadn’t seen in years learned that I moved to Southern California and began visiting me all the time. I would take them all horseback wine tasting to the local wineries. After doing this every weekend for six months, I opened Saddle Up to share my love of horses and the Temecula Wine Country with others. We have had visitors from all over the United States and even other countries such as Canada, Brazil, Switzerland and more! We hope that you will come see why Temecula is such a popular destination for vacationers and local Californians alike!

I grew up in San Antonio, Texas. My father was a businessman and rancher and we come from a long line of businessmen ranchers and horsemen. Dad made sure that I was on the back of a horse before I was out of diapers. By the time I was 8, I was helping our ranch hand gentle the green horses in the spring and riding rough stock. I was out checking fence and riding the section pastures by myself by age 10. Vacations were spent on various family member’s ranches riding horses. In college I walked on to the equestrian team and became the senior apprentice trainer at a professional facility that specialized in gentling wild Mustangs and took in problem horses from around the country. I was a trail guide in the Colorado Rocky Mountains for three years and worked with mounted rescue teams. After college I broke out on my own and worked with trainers and equine programs from the East Coast to the West Coast before setting up my own business in Temecula, Ca.

I would recommend everyone to do this wine tour at least once in their life time. The owner is truly experienced and loves what she does. These are rescue horses are are taken care of remarkably. Ooo yeah the wine was good too.

Jennifer was our guide and she was fantastic! I’ve only been on a horse a couple of times and she made everything easy for us to learn to ride a horse. She offered lots of great knowledge on the vineyards, the area, the horses’ personalities, and their histories while riding right between the vines! Our group was nice and small with 6 people which made for a more fun and intimate ride. This is my 2nd horseback wine adventure with Saddle Up… I’ll certainly be back again and recommend others to check them out too!

I really enjoyed the tour. One of the wineries that we visited had excellent marinara sauce that I wished I bought more of. The guide was very nice and most of the horses didn’t give any problems. I would bring a backpack if you want to buy bottles of wine because it’d be difficult to carry them while you ride the horses!

Our 13 year old daughter works with TJ as her instructor and raves about how much she learns with each lesson. We are impressed as TJ is our daughter’s 4 th instructor as we have moved several times. She is by far the most focused & measured instructors of all. We highly recommend Saddle Up Wine tours for lessons & trail rides. They are quite professional.

We had a great time when we went. It wasn’t easy to find the place to park, but we figured it out, a bit frantically. Our guide was a nice young woman who helped my out of shape butt get on the horse using a tree stump. I had never ridden a horse, but within a few minutes and her advice I felt confident. The ride was very nice, though the day was quite hot. The «breaks» at the wineries for tastings were most welcome. Our guide waited outside each of the wineries we visited while we sampled, yet we did not feel any time pressure. Since we two were the only riders we got to know her a bit, which was nice as well. I highly recommend this tour!

My husband and i were in Temecula celebrating my birthday back in March. We called saddle up wine tours to schedule horseback rising that afternoon. Unfortunately, an hour later we experienced some car trouble. We called to cancel without a problem and even got a referral to a local auto repair shop. Fast forward to mid April, Why is there a charge on my credit card for $ 130? I called to inquire and was instructed to text my information to the same business phone number. I did. I followed up the next day via text to confirm my information was received and in process of reversing charges. No response. Another day or so passed and my husband called. He was told on Sunday that the refund was already processed and we should see it on Tuesday. Great! Tuesday came and went, nothing. I sent another text. No reply. I called this past weekend and TJ was incredibly rude. She rambled on about how they process payments online and they don’t run credit cards at that location. I attempted to interject because we didn’t pay online, we’d ONLY been in contact by phone. She proceeded to yell at me MA’AM! MA’AM! MA’AM DON’T INTERRUPT ME!!! I let her finish and then attempted to explain my side, again. At which point she started yelling AGAIN that the business is closed and she’s with clients. Furthermore, she stated she’d processed my refund on Friday and it would take 10 days to post because it has to go through 4 different banks (sounds like BS to me). She said she’d call me on Monday and hung up It’s Tuesday and i still haven’t heard from her. At this point, i hope I never do. I’ll let my credit card company handle it.

Had a great time! I would like to go again. Looking forward to making it a big group and going for one of the bonfire sessions. I took my fiancée in May of 2015 for her birthday. It was my first time riding a horse so I rode a veteran/​stubborn/​funny horse, I think named Charlie.haha. You need to watch that kid like a hawk to keep him from eating the vines. Good times!

Saddle Up Wine Tours is top notch all the way! They are the perfect place to ride and enjoy the wine country. I was very impressed with the staff letting the riders learn their horses in the arena before they went on trail. They are the only outfit I have ever seen do this. So professional and even the greenest rider will feel one with their horse. Saddle Up saves unwanted horses and I adopted my beloved mare Pepper from them. If it was not for Saddle Up, Pepper would have never had a chance. Thank you TJ for such a wonderful loving horse.

Took my mom for her birthday and so much fun! The horses are sweet and I loved hearing TJ talk about each horse’s history. So wonderful that people like her are out there to save and care for horses. The bon fire was fun. Overall it was a great experience!

We did the bonfire tour last weekend as a family for my daughter’s 10th birthday. We had a great time. TJ is easy and pleasant to work with from beginning to end. We were an hour late due to traffic and she made sure her team was ready when we arrived so we could still do our full horse back ride. Jen was a great tour guide and told us lots of stories about the horses and the area. We really enjoyed the campfire cooking. There was plenty of good food with a variety of brats to please everyone. TJ and her team sat around the campfire with us and were great hosts taking care of whatever we needed and telling us lots of stories about themselves and the horses. Everyone had a great time, in fact we are organizing another adult trip with friends to do it again.

We went here with four kids aged 5, 7, 8 and 9 with T.J. and Jen. It was hands-​down amazing! They were so good with the kids and the kids learned so much. The kids were riding independently with monitoring from the instructors, even the 5 year old. They were all in cantor by the end of the lesson. The kids want to go back and specifically referenced TJ and Jen to ride with again. TJ kept us laughing and both TJ and Jen kept us engaged and informed as the adults the whole time. I would recommend Saddle Up for lessons with no hesitations!

I took two one-​hour private lessons with TJ. IT.WAS.THE.BEST. Seriously. Is she an effin magician?!? No. She works hard in the freakin sun ALL DAY LONG and doesn’t complain all remaining extremely attentive and kinda funny. I went from a walk, to a trot to a canter (google that ish) in less than two days. We did obstacles and she even kicked my but in a competition at the end.
Put this on your Temecula to do list. Unless you’re a wimp. Unless you don’t like fun. Unless you got a stick up your butt that makes it hard for you to sit in a saddle. I live in LA, but I’m definitely coming back up here for more.
