I’d bet it’s safe to say we shy away from writing Unilocal reviews about mental health care because of the stigma surrounding it in our society. Yes, it’s awesome to be able to find great reviews for the hottest new restaurant in Phoenix, or a hair dresser that can touch up your highlights without frying your hair to a crispy shade of orange. I’m leaping out of my comfort zone with this review, because for one, there’s not enough Unilocal reviews for mental health practitioners. Here’s my contribution. Oh, and I’d like to break the silence surrounding those that struggle with anxiety, depression, etc. *Sigh* I HATE writing less than stellar reviews … Almost didn’t want to post this. For confidentiality’s sake, though, let’s just say I found Dr. Sharon Frick through my health insurance. *Vulnerability without too many details* I wanted a neutral party/someone to talk to about potential life transitions and some of the anxiety about the situation that was nearly swallowing me whole day to day with jam packed work and training days(track and field). From the two sessions I had, Sharon was sweet, and seemed very willing to guide me through some of these decisions I’d be making(and struggles surrounding them). A great listener while still giving plenty of feedback. Her office was warm and inviting while still being a place conducive to working through some serious self-improvement. It was easy to book appointments and make copayments, other than the«cash or check» preferred over a Debit card. That’s about where her level of professionalism ends.(Sad to have to drop two stars.) Around the beginning of October, my Pops was admitted to the hospital for seriously high blood pressure and found out he’d need a quadruple bypass. I called Sharon 24 hours in advance to cancel my appointment, explaining the reason. Sharon called me back, and her voicemail floored me. «Hi Meagan, that’s fine — Please call me back as soon as you can, and let me know when you’d like to reschedule!» WHAT?! At first I thought I was overreacting from all the emotions surrounding my Dad’s surgery. Until I played the message for my partner and a friend(his), and they were both surprised as well. *More vulnerability without going into details* I spent a chunk of time in therapy in the past in addition to DBT Skills and Interpersonal Process Groups. That in mind, I know that being an exceptional practitioner goes beyond delivering exceptional guidance and care in office. Maybe I’m spoiled from working with great people previously? Who knows. A follow-up call(since I never called back, neither did Sharon, didn’t seem too concerned about my silence) or a, «Please let me know how your Dad is doing!» in that«reschedule ASAP» voicemail would have gone a long way in this situation. I’m sure if you choose to work with Sharon, you’ll be in good hands; however, you might find that the level of follow-up is unacceptable. … Which is exactly why I’m seeking a new practitioner.
