Red Lion Inn & Suites Tempe

They don’t have vending machines. They’re way over priced. It’s much more inexpensive to stay down the street. I spent $ 112.00 for a night in a very tiny room. The heater didn’t work, when I called the front desk they said to let it run for an hour and then call them back. I was so exhausted I fell asleep and it was still blowing cold air when I woke up. So I think it’s safe to say I won’t be staying there again.

Good deal for the cost considering you get a small kitchenette in your room. Rooms are old and dirty however. Lots of super sketchy folks staying here. My daughter pointed out underwear laying outside doors upstairs.
The front office staff was very nice, including a decent breakfast buffet. Maybe I have high expectations but I certainly would not rate this higher than 3 stars. Not a place to take kids.

Always a pleasure at a Red Lion for us. This place is equal to a Studio Apt. It was super clean, plenty of towels, a putting green to relax by with clean pools and they didn’t charge for our German Shepard! I didn’t want to leave the room it was so comfortable my wife was getting mad cause i actually considering missing dinner w the in laws to stay in with the dog at the HOTEL! That is why i give a 5 star. The area is crap coming from So Cal i guess nothing compares but anyway, this is a piece of paradise in a rather non paradise part of town. Oh, and the waffle bar and breakfast were AWESOME! Thank you Red Lion. Also make sure to rent a motorcycle from the guy down the street his name was Jerry at rent a Vette or something close to that. It was cheap and very fun!

Very good hotel, probably top 3 among hotels at the same price level. Love the bath package! Breakfast has a lot of options. Nice covered patio for breakfast.

Only stayed overnight but experienced nothing but excellent service from checking in late to switching us to a different room to shuttling us to the airport the next day to pick up a rental car. The room was clean. Loved the comfortable bed. The common areas are well kept and tastefully decorated. Free breakfast was a nice touch. Lots of choices. They even have fresh-​baked white chocolate fudge cookies all day. The staff was friendly, courteous and helpful. Will definitely return.

Be careful with third party reservations here. It’s a total headache to check in and upon checking out they will charge you a higher rate (their rate) and not what you booked for. Use caution here. The breakfast is a joke too! Airport shuttle was nice and parking is cheap for long term.

I’ll be honest… it doesn’t look like much when you’re pulling up and you’ve got the considerably nicer looking Hampton Inn next door. At regular price, it was an excellent deal and with a Groupon, it’s an amazing deal. Our room was slightly crowded but the beds and pillows were extremely comfy.
The included breakfast just sweetens the deal… especially with the waffles. Prior to checking-​in, I read someone’s review about the waffles and they were spot on. You might have to hover around the waffle iron a bit because they’re a popular offering but it’s worth the wait. They are delicious.
Parking is plentiful and checking in was a breeze. Definitely recommend!

The Red Lion was my home hotel as I participated in the Rock n Roll Half Marathon in Arizona.
Upon arrival, I called for the free shuttle service as directed. The hotel representative told me to wait in the wrong area initially… so I was waiting for a good amount of time until I inquired with one of the airport workers. He directed me to where the hotel shuttles typically pick-​up people, and after multiple phone calls to the hotel back and forth we were finally able to find each other, the shuttle and I.
The rooms were nice and clean. I would have preferred a fridge, but oh well. Continental breakfast was provided with eggs, toast, cereal and WAFFLES. Omg, I loved their waffles. The waffle mix was pre-​made, and all you do is simply pour it into the waffle maker. I’ve never made waffles before, and I was having a lot fun with that. Their waffle maker stamped The Red Lion logo onto waffles, and I don’t know why I got a kick out of that too. lol.
The people I interacted the most were the shuttle drivers, and they were very nice. Shuttle services were provided to areas within 5 miles of the hotel. I needed to go to the downtown area, but it was beyond the 5 mile marker. I had the shuttle driver drop me off at the Metro Light Rail, and for $ 2 I was able to get to downtown. Once I was done, I met up with the shuttle driver at the Metro Light Rail, and they took me back to the hotel.
However, I had another hiccup with being picked up. I waited at the light rail for more than an hour before I was actually picked up. I was not in any hidden or obstructed area, and believe me, I was on the look-​out for the shuttle. The Metro Light Rail is in the median lane of two streets driving in opposite direction. It was difficult to monitor both streets for the shuttle. The driver was fulfilling all his pick-​up jobs, except for mine. I called, and called again letting them know I was not picked up. He assumed the people he was picking up was me, but they were not. I could have just walked back to the hotel, but it would have been a 30 minute walk late at night, and I had a half marathon the next day. Once I was finally picked up, the driver himself said he did see me sitting by the light rail as he made multiple trips picking up other people. Bah.
I think shuttle drivers should be able to call people if they cannot find them, and/​or really ensure they are picking up the people that did make the request instead of all this middle man business with the front desk.
The next day, I had my half marathon. I was concerned about having the shuttle complication again after my race. Luckily, I happened to see the shuttle service to my hotel, and waved him down for a ride back. He recognized me, so we had no issues… but I did let him know that I did not call. I was in the process of calling him, but I was attempting to find a uncomplicated area that I can be easily found before calling first. Anyway, so whoever he was trying to pick up was probably still waiting around amongst the sea of Rock n Roll Marathon participants.
Other than the problems with being picked up, I had a great stay at The Red Lion. I would recommend staying here.

Good deal, good location adjacent to Tempe & one short FREE shuttle ride to Mill. Yup folks you read that right they have a free shuttle for guests within’ a 5 mile radius. Make sure & tip. I mean really you’re saving a cab fare so be generous.
My one gripe is that there is a $ 25 fee for checking prior to their check in time of 3 p.m. Does not matter if it’s 2:15. Sorry you have to return at 3. OK got it you all need the extra $ 25…
They advertise free Wi-​Fi but unfortunately an HTC & iPhone user couldn’t get the WiFi strong enough. But we didn’t mind as we were only in there to sleep. No bigs but if you were working this could be an issue. So just an FYI.
The room was a steal on a Sat in prime time AZ Spring. There weren’t any funny business fees (well except the early check in) but nothing hidden so that is great. So if you need a clean place to crash when going to an event in Tempe or S Scottsdale give this place a whirl. You won’t be sorry.

We stayed at this hotel Super Bowl weekend and had an amazing ton. They have shuttles for free to and from the airport. The staff was extremely helpful with transportation and tips of fun things to do. Christian works at the front desk and went above and beyond to continuously help us. He was very honest and had done his research about travel and transportation for the game. I would totally stay here again. Rooms are clean and the breakfast was decent. Nothing fancy of over the top but the staff made this stay well worth it, especially Christian!

Great place to stay if you’re running the Rock n Roll Series in AZ :) — free shuttle buses from the hotel to the main area where the race starts.

This hotel was very NICE! Hot breakfast (had waffles and hard boiled eggs and potatoes, awesome staff and awesome beautiful guestrooms. Very welcoming! Also nice sitting areas outside. Also was convenient to shopping, dinning and ASU and not to mention just down the road from the airport !

We have a very pleasant stay at the Red Lion Inn and Suites. It’s just north of the ASU campus past the freeway over pass and Tempe lake project. It’s close enough to everything including Scottsdale. Sure it’s not a Scottsdale resort or in the middle of Tempe near Mill Ave. but we could drive just about everywhere and were away from the traffic and congestion around the ASU campus.
The service was good and the rooms nicely furnished. They had a mini fridge and complimentary coffee. The air conditioning units worked great. They also have a television with HBO. The beds were nice and comfy, the pillows great. The complimentary shampoo, condition, and lotions were nice to. They have a pool and serve a light breakfast in the morning. The spread is pretty good, from fruit, hot muffins with cheese and bacon on them to a selection of cereal, oatmeal, and our favorite, the waffle machine. They also had juices, milk, and yogurt. The staff was helpful, kept things pleasant, and we had a wonderful stay while attending a graduation at ASU. It looks like they also have shuttles to and from Sky Harbor. I’d definitely recommend, we had a very pleasant stay.

Good, quality hotel. The staff is nice and attentive. The breakfast buffet has many options and a lot better than what I’ve been used to seeing. The room is clean and comfortable. The only down-​side is that the walls are kinda thin and the bathroom sink is around the corner from the toilet and shower (at least in our room). Location is nice, I never felt unsafe. Very close to freeways and Old Town Scottsdale, ASU, and Papago Park, 15min from Downtown, 5 min from airport. And dog-​friendly!

I booked this hotel as a last minute trip to the amazing Wet Electric Event held in Scottsdale. The hotel is very easy to find and only a few blocks off the freeway which made things very convenient for us when we exited. Parking is free and the area is very safe with lots of stores you would need around you for a vacation. We had no problems checking in and the staff was very sweet and attentive from the beginning. The rooms are a decent size with AC/​Heater, huge flat screen TV, free wifi, and even a free medium refrigerator which we were pretty excited about. We had only been in our room for two hours and our excitement level had escalated which disrupted a few other rooms. Then one of the hotel employees named Christian came to our room and with a very professional and calm tone, had asked us to turn the music down. Christian had handled the situation very well and at no point did he make it feel like I was being punished which made me really respect him as a professional. Christian was very charismatic, polite, and always friendly to us during our stay at the Red Lion Inn. I would definitely recommend this hotel for its great rates, location, free wifi, free printer for our tickets :) clean rooms, free shuttle anywhere in a 5 mile radius, and especially for its wonderful staff. I will definitely be staying here the next time I visit Arizona. Thanks again Red Lion Inn :)

I liked it – big time! From now on, this is the only place I’m staying at in Phoenix (OK, it’s not technically Phoenix but close enough). The staff was friendly and had a great attitude. The room was spotless, and the grounds are nicely maintained. They offer all the amenities (I like the free parking), so give the Lion a shot.
