Our History — Adult & Pediatric Urgent Care

Adult & Pediatric Urgent Care was originally opened in 1987 by Dr Aziz Ghaussy MD, and since that time has repeatedly proven itself to be a pillar to the Thousand Oaks, and Westlake medical communities.

In 2012, management was handed over to Dr. Michael Howell MD, a board certified physician with urgent care experience in Post-​Katrina Louisiana and sports medicine with the 2007 BCS national championship LSU tigers .

Over the years, Adult & Pediatric Urgent Care has treated all ages of patients, and expanded the practice to include immediate digital X-​ray imaging, onsite laboratory with results in under 10 minutes, and an onsite pharmacy to improve both treatment times and patient convenience. Our goal is to provide the highest quality medical services, using the latest health technology available to provide you with the medical care that you need, when you need it most at a reasonable cost.

Dr Michael is the best physician I have ever met. He took the time to hear my concerns and even took the time to discuss the treatment plan with me. Most doctors rarely treat their patients in such a compassionate manner. Dr Michael is very knowledgeable about primary care problems and is always ready to help in any way he can. He is always willing to go the «extra mile» to make you feel comfortable in his clinic. His urgent care clinics also have on-​site lab tests which they can do promptly and give you the results right away. I highly recommend Dr Michael to anyone who wants to avoid the ER. Wait times are also reasonable so you will get the care you need pretty quickly. Thank You Dr Michael.

Hospital wait was over 2 hours, so I decided to take my 91 year old mom to the urgent care, since she was complaining of stomach pain and had vomit a few times that day. Waited 10 – 15 mins, everyone was great. Very friendly Doctor talked to my mom about her symptoms, took blood and gave her a stomach cocktail to help. The Doctor concluded it was a virus that was going around and she should be fine in a few day. The blood came back great, all done in house, but one blood work wouldn’t be ready till the next day. The Doctor asked if my mom wanted a few pain/​anti nausea pills, she said yes, paid $ 15.00 and left.
The next day my mom is feeling really bad, stomach pains, she took the pill and her throat was on fire, she calls me at work, and I call the Urgent care to find out what’s going on, well this is where my problem starts. The young girl that picked up the phone was rude and discourteous to me. I asked her if the Doctor was available and with a tone said NO. I asked for the blood work results to see if that blood work was normal, no it’s not ready, the clinic will call when it’s available, every question asked by me, was met with an uncaring sarcastic answer. I finally had enough of this call. I had a few choice words for her rudeness and hung up. Made a few calls and got her into gastric doctor, who determined she had an ulcer, gave her a prescription and now my mom is doing great.
Just received a letter from the clinic advising me that we are no longer welcome, really. I have new for you, I would never pay any of your clinics a penny, with a staff worker that’s rude and obnoxious you can take a hike, along with your misdiagnosis. A virus, nice try.

Dragged myself up the stairs to this clinic with what I discovered after a wait that exceeded an hour on a sunday morning, was a fractured patella. During this time it was very apparent that I was in agony and the women at the front desk seemed to be blind to that fact. Forms needed to be filled out after all and God forbid they were handed to me ! No, I had to retrieve them and endure more pain in my trips back and forth to the reception area. When I finally made it into an exam room the same stupid apathy continued as I was asked questions regarding my condition. The nurse or technician insisted on getting a temperature reading using a faulty ear thermometer and kept jabbing the thing into both my ears trying to get a reading. «I have an injury to my knee not a medical condition .» I repeated several times until she came back with another thermometer and repeated the same thing. Dr. Howell himself was ok, competent enough, and ordered an x ray which again placed me in the hands of a young woman in a uniform who didn’t have enough sense to understand that I was in too much pain to move my leg in the positions requested, was unclear on the concept and added to my misery. Additionally I was freezing, experiencing nausea and just about as miserable as humanly possible. After the diagnosis I was asked to stand on my broken leg to take pics of the radiographs. It was only when I collapsed in agony on the floor that the Dr. asked his staff to bring me some juice and sit me in a wheel chair until I was able to regain some composure. Thereafter I had to drag my broken legged ass down a flight of stairs to my car without any assistance whatsoever. Seriously if this is the best urgent care the TO area has to offer you’re much better off going to the veterinarian. Horrible.

I had a really great experience here, despite the reason for my visit. I felt really well taken care of, which is rare in such places. As far as I have experienced in the past at least. I came after work at around 7:30 pm and was seen within the first 15 minutes of arriving. Thank you for taking good care of me and making me feel better. :-)

I should have written this review ages ago. I have visited Dr Howell’s Urgent Care office twice in the past couple of years. I suspected a UTI and had a horrible cough. On both occasions I had been told by my own doctor that there was no problem (no longer with that doctor!). Dr Howell immediately took x-​rays which showed a severe chest infection and tested for UTI — which came back positive. He prescribed the necessary medication I needed and I was soon feeling very much better. Dr Howell is a very professional, caring and knowledgeable man and I am very grateful for his care. I recommend his medical office without hesitation

outstanding. quick check in and Dr. Howell was great. Didn’t feel rushed with doctor and felt very confident in his abilities. So other nice pluses this location is open later and on weekends and is right off the freeway so quick to get to. Parking easy .
Usually going to urgent care facility is hours ordeal and this experience was not that.

I just needed a health clearance for a application ended up waiting over a hour because I wasn’t a priority… there were only 2 other people in the office being seen yet I feel as though I was completely ignored. I’m really unhappy with the way I was treated. I am a paying customer and should not be passed over because I am not sick or urgent especially since I had to go to a different location because there was not a doctor at the location I originally went to. I almost just asked for my money back and went to another urgent care. When I was finally seen, the PA was really sweet and nice but I will not return back here ever again.

Walking in to the clinic was great. It was tidy and everything seemed to be in place. My issue was the attitude I received from the nurse I dealt with. Being a former nursing student, I know that compassion is on the very top of the list. I don’t even remember her asking me what I was in the urgent care for. All I got was straight up attitude. I tried to tell her that I received a referral and authorization number from my insurance (TriCare) to come to their office, which I wrote down for her on a piece of paper and she completely ignored. She just called the insurance company asked for my type of insurance and proceeded to tell me that my type of insurance is not something they take and I would have to pay out of pocket. If they were kind, I would have further explained the authorization/​referral number I had given her to begin with but I didn’t want to stay so I left. I don’t believe I will ever go back to this place again, no matter how close it is to my work.

Cannot rate high enough! From the moment we stepped through the front door, we were well taken care of. My daughter was seen within 10 minutes of arriving, the nurses and doctor were attentive, explained everything in terms that were easily understandable, and answered every question I had with patience. Pros: clean office, friendly staff, doctor was great, she was helpful and empathetic!
Cons: inexperienced and unprofessional staff. As I was sitting in the room waiting to be seen I could hear all of the non work related conversations being had in the hallway… Their dreams last night, what their favorite Starbucks is, laughing chatting not doing anything productive. I could hear their lunches being cooked in the microwave even! Then when I went to get an x ray the nurse had no idea had to conduct them and was yelling across the office asking another nurse for help. It seemed like a training office with learning students. At one point I even heard one nurse ask another how they should test for step throat!

Excellent Service. Zero wait time and low cost for sports physical. The location is perfect, easy access and close to frwy. The facility is clean and equipped to handle just about anything, including lab or x-​rays. etc.
In addition, Dr. Howell was great and friendly and very professional. I highly recommend this facility. Five stars!

This place was awesome. It was very fast and efficient and I spent less than half an hour in the place, and that was without an appointment. I was impressed. It’s really clean and modern looking and the ladies at the front desk were welcoming. I came in because I suspected I had bronchitis — which I do. Jonathan, the PA, saw me (he’s the one with the camo tattoo on his arm). He was very friendly and easygoing. He sent me on my way with my prescriptions, and what made me give this place five stars is because they helped me out when I called them back. The problem was he gave me an Rx for a type of cough syrup that 3 different pharmacies didn’t have. So I called and they actually put him on the line (how often do you get to speak to your doctor on the phone??) and he called the pharmacy himself for a substitution, and he got it done right away. I was really happy with that service.
Was very happy with how hassle-​free it was!
One note: they don’t accept HMO insurance.

Cons: Once you get the bill. BEWARE sneaky charges they don’t tell you about!
I went once for flu-​like symptoms. I was given a prescription for antibiotics and he said he wanted to give me a shot (something called dex?). I declined because I don’t like shots — he said” Come on, it will make you feel much better for the rest of the day”. So I did it — he did not say how much it cost. 2 months later I got a bill for an extra $ 145 for that shot that I didn’t even want.
Next time, I went for a mysterious skin condition. They couldn’t figure out what it was, so they wanted to test for allergies. Results came back negative, they said, «Well, we don’t know what it is. Wait it out and keep an eye on it.» So… thanks for nothing. Then I get a lab bill for $ 3,200 for the allergy test… That’s crazy!!! I never would have done it
They should really tell you how much things cost before pushing them on you. I feel a little scammed — I’m sure that’s how doctors work in general, but it was disappointing because I really liked this place.

If you are looking for knowledgable doctors in your area without having to make multiple trips for testing this is the best urgent care you will find. Best and easiest urgent care I’ve been to. Barely any wait. The doctor was personable and explained everything about the diagnosis and we were in and out in 30 minutes. The only thing that could make it better is if the facility could send the prescription to the pharmacy for you. Other facilities do that and it saves time.

Dr. Howell and his staff are very attentive. While on a business trip I had to get urgency care. I tried getting medical attention in Oxnard, but the wait was too long for me. I quickly looked for a urgent care facility that wasn’t busy and in an area that was likely to have less patients waiting. I drove the 35 mins. that my GPS calculated. There was an issue with my medical insurance, but they waived the higher possible charge, until they could confirm my network with my insurance company on Monday.

Have to agree with the other reviews. This place is great. I’m fairly new to the area and had to see a doctor about refilling some prescriptions. They were quick, incredibly thorough, caring, and professional. I felt an immediate sense of trust and will be back. Even though I went in for skin problems, they were able to detect high blood pressure — and put me on a non-​prescription routine as a first measure to get me better.
Good for families — both my wife and two children have used this place also.

Their customer service is superb and the doctor truly takes the time to listen to my concerns and ensure that my health needs are met.
I have never had to wait long to be seen and I appreciate the friendly and caring treatment that I receive.
When I found out that Dr. Howell also does Family Practice… I made him my primary physician.
