After Hours Pediatrics Urgent Care

Brought in my 10 yr old daughter in for what turned out to be pneumonia. The place is so welcoming, pretty and clean. I was seen right away and seen by Dr. Arlene Alikian, the director who was amazing. Explained everything so my daughter could understand, did all the professional protocols, and would not let my daughter leave until she was stable enough to go. She was doting, caring and concerned. The follow up the next day was a similar experience with another doctor. I appreciated the professionalism. We are lucky to have them!

We took our child for a bad cold and fever. The doctor and staff is great. Best experience in the healthcare system I have ever had. I would highly recommend them to anyone with a child. Thanks you Doctor.

My 7 month old came in for an ear infection. Very upset all night Saturday, presented on a Sunday morning. Dr. Marshall saw my son right away, correctly diagnosed his issue, explained everything very well, had us out of there within a half hour. He was empathetic and professional. We obtained meds there so no trip to the pharmacy. This is a great resource for parents in the area — my son is already feeling better.
The negative reviews regarding billing should take into account that the current insurance system is very difficult to navigate — it may not be the provider’s fault that the billing system is confusing or their original estimate was off slightly. I will hopefully not have another off hour emergency, but if I do, I would not hesitate to return.

I’m going to have to agree with the other comments on this page. The dr’s there were great, but the billing and receptionist were NOT. After telling the girl multiple times that I have a $ 10 co-​pay, she insisted on charging me $ 25. I then had to get a letter from my insurance stating that I should have been charged $ 10, LIKE I SAID MULTIPLE TIMES WHEN I WAS THERE. Now, two months later, I am still waiting to be reimbursed my $ 15. I realize that it’s only $ 15, but this should have never happened!

Hmm… Lets see — First off — BILLING — Guess what? You will get charged $ 75 which is a fee for being an «AFTER HOURS» pediatric center — which is what it is by definition — after hours — but this will not fall into any of the categories that the insurance covers. So — this is on TOP of ANY fees that your insurance would cover. THEN — I had to ASK the doctor to use gloves to glue my daughter’s tiny tiny head would together. So — open wound — blood — etc… gloves AND WASHING YOUR HANDS in front of the patient should be customary.
Issues:
1. I was there on a Saturday around noon (hate to think what they charge for an ACTUAL after hours visit) — which came with a $ 75 bill — consider going to a reputable ER — since this place will charge you $ 75 for what they are — by definition — «after hours.» How disappointing — this feels like a scam.
2. My need to REQUEST that the doctor wash his hands before touching my daughter. He did it with resent (even though I did ask nicely) — and he didn’t wear gloves. I think in this day and age — that should be a given.

Took my son here due to a head injury. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Dr Lowen was very thorough in her evaluation. Definitely recommend. Dr Lowen and staff are very helpful and patient and kind.

I’m very thankful for this place– it’s so scary when your child is sick, especially when it’s the doctor’s after hours. I’ve taken my daughter to this location once and the other location twice– the doctor’s were excellent!

We walked in 15 minutes before closing with a gash on my 4 year old’s eyebrow and only waited about 5 – 10 minutes. Dr. Lowen was great, she even came out into the lobby to take a look at my son before he was triaged. I would have given them a higher rating but the woman up front was extremely rude to my son about playing with the train table in the lobby. I realize they were getting ready to close but they are also a PEDIATRIC office, they can’t expect kids to not want to play. My child was not making a mess by any means, and will clean up after himself. She made a point to tell him not to play with the toys in the train table drawer and when we were leaving and paying our co pay, he walked out into the lobby and she made sure to yell, «you arent messing up my toys are you?». So lady up front, please keep in mind that no matter what time it is, Kids that are coming in aren’t feeling well and its nice to have a little something to cheer them up.

So happy to have found After Hours Pediatrics! We were visiting from out of town and our son came down with a sore throat (swollen tonsils). So many reasons to be pleased with our visit: the pediatrician was so kind, they were open late (we got there at 10:15pm) and I was able to get the Rx he needed directly from them (no need to find an after-​hours pharmacy in an area I wasn’t familiar with). Thank you for taking care of us!

We had to bring my daughter in to get a catheter for a urine sample. Dr. Alikian was so patient and answered all of our questions so thoroughly. We were in and out in 30 minutes and paid SO much less than a typical urgent care/​ER. I just wish we could see Dr. Alikian as our primary care doctor :) As an added plus, the office is very clean and does not feel like an urgent care at all. Definitely a great resource for non-​emergency visits!

Do NOT go here if you need to trust the staff to verify your insurance is accepted. Our family will not be coming back here after being asked to pay for their error; one we tried to avoid upfront.
Background: In March 2014, our oldest son got a quick onset eye infection. We needed an Rx, and wanted to go here because we liked the doctors and they always took our Anthem PPO as an «in network» office.
Due to changes in the healthcare system, we knew our Anthem plan was recently moved to a new healthcare compliant plan, which meant our old PPO was not grandfathered in and our new PPO plan fell into a new network. As such, we checked the After Hours website BEFORE arriving, and it stated that they were contracted with Anthem PPOs. And, it only mentioned the exclusion of Covered California plans including Anthem. Our new Anthem PPO was an «off-​exchange plan», (not a Covered California plan), so their website led us to believe we would be covered.
Upon arrival, we wanted to double check so we mentioned our concern about the Anthem PPO changes and asked the gal at the counter to verify they accepted our new PPO and would be «in network» for our plan. She answered, «Anthem PPO? Yes…» We asked her to take our insurance card and make sure before we saw a doctor. We told her we didn’t want to stay if they were not in network. She took our son’s card, looked at it and said «Yes, we take this». Not feeling totally convinced we asked one last time if she could double check that After Hours is in our Anthem «Pathways» PPO network specifically. She looked something up and told us one more time we were covered. We believed her, and she then accepted our co-​payment.
A month later we got an EOB from Anthem saying this office was indeed out of network, and received the full bill! We called After Hours billing and explained the situation. They contacted «the owner» and his message back was that he believed we owe anyway and would not budge. Essentially, After Hours was unwilling to accept responsibility for the staff’s mistake and the incomplete information published on their website!
We continued to dispute and attempted to reason with them for several months. The owner finally agreed to drop the bill’s balance to $ 100 in addition to our co-​pay. But it just doesn’t make sense that we would need to pay $ 100 for their mistake, and we held off paying anything more.
They’ve since turned it over to collections, so we’re getting calls and threats to our credit report. Being active parents that run a business in Thousand Oaks that also works with children/​parents, all we can do is inform everyone we know in the area about our experience; including how After Hours can’t be trusted and how they responded so irresponsibly in this situation.
The doctors are good, and it’s a needed service, so it’s too bad the owner/​staff can’t be more informed/​conscientious and take responsibility. It’s not fair to the patients or the doctors. We’ll be going somewhere else next time for our kids and urge others to do so too.
(By the way… their website is STILL incomplete and frankly in error, stating they accept Anthem PPOs. If this were true, we wouldn’t be giving this review only one star!)

Somehow we managed to make it almost 4 years without having to take our kids to an after hours urgent care. Yesterday we took our 20 month old to the After Hours Pediatrics Urgent Care in Thousand Oaks. We walked in around 4pm on a Saturday (Memorial Day weekend). No one was in the waiting room. After being there for a couple minutes 2 other parents with sick children arrived. Since it was our first time there, we filled out a form and within minutes of completing it our name was called. A nurse took my son’s vitals and a couple minutes later the doctor came in. We really couldn’t have had a better or quicker experience. The facility was clean, the staff was nice and we really liked the doctor (Dr. Mickey).

We have taken both of our children there multiple times, either on weekends or in the evening. Although you can wait sometimes, it is well worth the wait. The medical assistants and doctors are wonderful. All the doctors we have seen are kind, patient and knowledgeable. We completely trust their care and diagnoses when our doctor is not available.

We have had to take our son here on a couple of occasions, and each time we have received wonderful care. The doctors we have seen are all very caring and able to put our son (less than one year old) at ease, despite their poking. And just as they say, their notes are all sent to our regular pediatrician. Would not hesitate to take our son here again if needed (although I hope it’s not necessary), and would easily recommend this to anyone. MUCH better than sitting around an ER waiting room.

Wish I could give a good review, but we waited for over 2 hours with only a handful of patients in front of us. The dr was very through and caring, but we won’t return. Urgent care should have more than 1 dr on staff.

Dr. Pinedo was excellent! This is an amazing after hours pediatric center. Would not go anywhere else!

After my Unilocal review I was contacted by one of the owners, who explained their billing practices and policies and listened to my concerns. He apologized for my experience and took steps to make it right, and I also acknowledged that I could have asked more questions at the time we were there to avoid the issue.
I appreciate his time and follow up and am generally satisfied now, but do wish that I didn’t have to post a less than stellar Unilocal review in order to get a resolution (I understand that my main issue is with their 3^rd party billing company, but they were my only way of contacting After Hours Pediatrics so I don’t really have another option). If the situation arises again where we need to take our kids to urgent care, we will feel comfortable bringing our kids back here.

We are visiting from out of town and our 14 month old developed a fever. We drove up from Camarillo because nothing there was open in the evenings. I’m so glad we did! The staff was so sweet and handled my fussy toddler expertly. The doctor was incredibly thorough, caring, and efficient. If I lived here, I would be tempted to make this my primary pediatrician’s office! They didn’t bill like an urgent care but a regular physician co-​pay. Even better! We recommend them highly!

As a Mom and Pediatric Nurse, this is the ONLY place I will take my daughters! Dr. Pinedo is amazing and I trust him completely with my daughters!!!

Very attentive doctors. Great bedside manners. They always follow up couple days later to ensure our kids are alright. Nurses are great and patient with children, which is a plus.
We’ve come to this place 3 times and will continue to come when there are needs in the future.
