Meet the Business Owner

Joanna B.

Business Owner

Joanna has an extensive background in both working with children and the performing arts. Her journey started on the stage as a little girl landing leading roles in regional theatre productions. She became a member of the Screen Actor’s Guild after doing television and commercial work. Since then she has performed as a repertory member of the Santa Monica Playhouse and traveled as a Youth Ambassador of the Arts to Tokyo to help teach theatre to English language students. In addition, Joanna’s travels brought her to study Shakespeare at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts. She is a classically trained vocalist and has studied ballet intensively at the American Ballet Theatre’s program in Austin, Texas. Currently, Joanna teaches drama and musical theatre from preschool through high school age. She has been an instructor in the early education department of the Santa Monica Playhouse as well as heading up the Creative Drama Workshop at Woodland Hills Elementary.

Truly a Disneyland-​worthy princess! We had the pleasure of having Elsa come to my daughter’s 3rd birthday party at our house in December. All the little girls (and a few of the boys) swooned over Elsa the minute she walked through the door. She was sweet and attentive, and held their attention for the entire time with her singing and story telling. I was afraid the whole boombox and live singing might be cheesy but honestly — Elsa had an AMAZING voice and stayed in character so well (and the boombox sounded good). Her singing sent chills down my spine, it was so good. Everyone was entertained. Elsa did impressions of other princesses to the girls’ requests, and also danced with them. It’s now June and my daughter still talks about how Elsa came to our house for her birthday. Thank you again!

I got Elsa for my daughters birthday she went to her school and she also came to our house for a bit. The kids had so much fun interacting with Elsa she was a huge hit. My daughter asks for Elsa every 5 min we are huge fans and we will definitely be using smile and song for both my kids party’s next year!!!

Ariel came to our daughter’s 5th birthday party. AMAZING! ENCHANTING! INCREDIBLE! She sang, she face painted, she read stories, she danced. Just an amazing day for our daughter and her friends. And Ariel had information that our daughter had diabetes and added that into her message. Every girl and boy got their face painted and got a Mermaid Princess Certificate. At the end of the day, a dozen little girls had a magical day with Ariel!!!

Cinderella came to my niece Athena’s 3rd BDay party and she was an instant hit! When my niece first saw Cinderella walking towards her she was in complete awe! She couldn’t believe what she was seeing. Then Cinderella said «Hi» and gave her a big hug. The happiness was as clear as day across her face as she hugged her favorite princess. The story telling, coloring, crown making and dancing were just a few activities at the party. Cinderella was flawless and I thank you for making my nieces BDay a memorable one!

Cinderella was wonderful, I definitely recommend Smile and a Song Princess Parties. From the beginning when I called to hire Cinderella, they were very professional the girl I spoke to gave me the cost emailed the contract and receipt from the deposit promptly, and I received a call two days prior to confirm. Cinderella arrived right on time and was great with all the girls. I can’t explain how amazing she was, my daughter was at aw with her. Thank you Cinderella for putting a big smile on my daughters face! She can’t stop talking about her now.

I can’t even begin to express how wonderful Queen Elsa was at my little girl’s 4th birthday party! She was amazing — a wonderful performer, didn’t break out of character for one second, and was wonderful with all of the children. My daughter really felt special. It’s a memory she will have for a long time. Very highly recommend!

I can’t say enough about how great the little mermaid was. We hired her for my daughters 3rd birthday party and my daughter was amazed. She literally didn’t break character once (not even when I was paying the remainder of the bill at the end). The children were fully entertained for the entire 1.5 hours. They colored, read, sang, played hide and seek and all of the kids remained happy the entire party. I would recommend this little mermaid to any of my friends.

I have used this company twice and love them! Last year Anna and Elsa came to my daughter’s party and yesterday Belle came. She had the most beautiful voice and kept the kids entertained with stories, dancing, coloring and face painting. She never broke character and was so warm and sweet!

A couple weeks ago Anna and Elsa came to see my little Princess at her Preschool and the Kids loved it. They did such a wonderful job of making her feel like Queen for the day and gave a wonderful interactive presentation of the frozen story and danced and sang with the kids. They did such a great job and never broke character. Their costumes were spot on and they had such lovely voices. They represented the animated characters perfectly. My Daughter still tells me about the day the Real Elsa and Anna came to see her.

Princes Belle arrived at my girlfriend’s princess party as a surprise. I imagine it may have been a little odd being asked to be at a grown-​up party but Belle was absolutely amazing. Right from the moment she entered the door (to a room full of people who had no idea she was coming) she had everyone in awe. I almost asked to have story time removed as i feared our guests wouldn’t go for it but it was an amazing success with Belle impressing everyone in the room with her amazing voice. Princess/​Prince lessons were also a lot of fun and the line for face painting never stopped. All the while, Belle was talking with each and every one of our guests.
The entire time Belle was there she was in an adult world, but she dealt with us weirdos with the grace and dignity you would expect from a princess. When the party was over, my girlfriend said that she felt as though Belle had really come to our party. In my mind, that makes hiring her one of the best choices I’ve ever made.

We booked Rapunzel (Joanna Bert) for our daughter’s 4th birthday party and she did an amazing job entertaining the kids with story time, dancing and coloring. She stayed in character the whole time and she has a beautiful singing voice. The hair and costume were amazing as well. We originally opted not to do face painting during the 90 minutes she was there since we had 24 kids, but half the kids weren’t as interested in princesses so we ended up doing face painting. I’m not always a fan of face painting since it’s not always done well, but I thought she did a great job with the face/​arm painting. Thanks for making my daughter’s birthday so special!

Worth the money. We just had a Cinderella party last weekend and everyone was so amazed and mesmerized with Cinderella. She had a beautiful and elaborate gown and a beautiful voice to match it. Everyone thought I hired her from Disneyland. She was in character the whole time and was great with the kids. She did storytelling and sang the songs from the movie. After that she gave the girls some pointers on how to be a princess and took pictures with everyone. Then she did some facepaint too. We also had a little coronation for the bday girl and sang happy birthday. Everyone was raving about the party and Cinderella. I highly recommend a Smile and a Song company for character visits for your party. Will definitely use them again. A very Satisfied costumer.
