After four years of being at The Lakes in Thousand Oaks Sushi Ko has shut its doors. We have all tried so hard from the beginning and put in so much effort but it just never worked out. It feels as if we have somewhat lost a part of ourselves, and it is a bitter/sweet ending. Only a few months after we filmed Kitchen Nightmares and all got rejuvenated and excited to be there again, we got the bad news. We all went from being on such a high and happy with the«new» restaurant and then shortly after got pushed to the bottom. Somehow business got worse after we filmed it and the center seemed more deserted then it ever has been. Partly the economy, and partly ________, it was just not looking good. I am glad I got to go into the kitchen and learn the new menu and how to cook tho, it has been a great experience and I did not want it to stop. We(family) all had to bite our lips and keep it in for a month before we decided what we were going to tell everyone and what we were going to do, and it was really hard emotionally for all of us to go in there day after day knowing it was all going to end. After we started telling people with a month to go we all felt a little better. We decided to close doors to the public on the 8th of August, almost exactly four years after we opened.”

This was the worst sushi I’ve ever had this was a sorry excuse for a sushi resturaunt. My boyfriend and I wanted to discretly tell the female manager that the salmon was bad and she came to our table and made a big deal about really loud quizing us on where we eat sushi. anyways I would never have recommended this place to anyone… want good sushi in the area check out Kaminari in Westlake its superb

Ate here when my beau and I were invited to a taping of Kitchen Nightmares this past summer. The food was so-so, but I was willing to give it another chance and also looking forward to its transformation. The owner was honest, hard-working, and seemed to be doing his best to stay afloat. Also, the interior design was absolutely beautiful. Bummer about this place closing.

This is in review after Sushi Ko has closed, despite the supposed makeover by Kitchen Makeover! They hammered the menu — damn you Ramsey! You DONKEY! Also it seemed the quality suffered as well and the sushi was not on par. Overall after seeing what happened to it after, as being there before, they should have let things alone. Plus I always saw people there, the last time it was a Ghost town. RIP!

This place just closed it’s doors, and I’m absolutely heartbroken. It was one of my top 3 lunch picks in town, and definitely my number 1 sushi pick! If anyone knows if the chefs are moving on to other restaurants in the area, please post a link! Sushi Ko, I’ll miss you!

i really like this restaurant espec ially for its Sushi pizza. I am japanese and i grew up in Hawaii so i know my stuff… but the Sushi pizza still tastes good. its a little messy but the crunchy«crust» and tasty toppings make up for it. Its supposed to be fun, right? Whenever i come here i always get that in addition to a couple veggie skewers [they are ok] and for dessert i either get the mochi ice cream [always soo yummy] or the fried ice cream [really good]. i cant wait! Im going there in three days!

A group of seven of us went to Sushi Ko and enjoyed the food but we were extremely disappointed by the service. The waitress brought out three of the five hot dishes and it took another fifteen minutes for the other two to arrive. Our server who was MIA forced me to inquire with the manager who told me to sit down. If you go there, be on the lookout for her — short, long blond hair and about 60 years old. Expect attitude which should be surprising in this economy. Fortunately there are many sushi choices in Thousand Oaks.

We chose Sushi Ko for a dinner before a show at the nearby Civic Arts Plaza because it was the only restaurant at The Lakes without a long wait. The menu featured a selection of little grilled skewers, which we didn’t try but sounded and looked appetizing. The rolls were typical Americanized sushi fare you would tend to expect in Thousand Oaks. We shared a Fire Roll which had a duo of somewhat odd sauces that didn’t meld well, the Chirashi bowl«dinner»(came with a cucumber/seaweed salad and miso soup) and pan friend udon noodles. The chirashi was nice, the fish was fresh and the rice was well prepared. My dining companion and I didn’t care for the yaki-udon, as the small shrimp were painfully overcooked and the sauce had a sweetness that we didn’t quite care for. Overall it’s not a bad place for what it is. The prices aren’t anything to balk at, though I did take umbrage with the fact that when you order regular sushi it contains only one piece.

Great Susi Place! Stopped here for lunch on a Saturday and had the whole place to ourselves! The sushi chefs were great and made us a few special rolls that were not on the menu! Very Tasty, fresh fish! This might just be my new sushi place in town! Yumm!!!

Ive had dinner here only once, but it was wonderful! My lady and I sat outside in the warm evening air and enjoied many different dishes, all of which were wonderful. They have a large variety of grilled tid-bits that will always make me smile. Desert? Red sesame ice cream, absolutly delicious stuff. The wait staff was pleasant and prompt, everyone was very nice to us, especially in Thousand Oaks(Im covered in tattoos and have 2 inch holes in my ears, heh). And the bill? Completly reasonable.
