Thousand Oaks Ice Skating

Very rude staff, melting ice and not kids safe or friendly. Eric kicked one of my kids out, 4 year old for going wrong direction. At least explain to him or ask us to talk to him. Again, they are super rude. No wonder bad reviews about new management, he said his name is Eric

I loved this place. It is great for kids and beginners. My kids had a blast and the staff and management was wonderful! My son, fell and hurt his head, and the ice staff was there by his side in 2 seconds with an ice pack and blanket. Very well managed.

The last time I came here was for an exciting night out with Unilocal elites last year. It cost $ 15.00 to get in, includes the rental of the skates and it’s an all day price. They put a wrist band on you and you can come back later in the evening if you wanted which I’m going to do. ;) The little blue things that help the little ones from falling –those are on a first come first serve basis– there is no charge for those. My little ones had a blast out there with some complaining about the skates, she got a blister– bring thick enough socks for the little ones. Once the ice starts melting and turning to slush they clear everyone off and they work very quickly at getting it back to a nice hard surface.

It looks like the Lake changed vendors for this year; definitely a disappointment. The ice is not well maintained, the staff is not as good, and the decorations are not as good as the previous years. Obvious they went with the lowest bidder to save a few bucks.

It looks like either ownership or management has changed this year with some noticeable differences.
On the plus side there are no longer one hour reserved sessions, it’s open skate all day.
The biggest negative is the quality of the ice-it’s very uneven with large pools of standing water. If they could return the ice to its former quality is be happy giving them a 4 star review but would still take a star due to the $ 15 cost.

Came here for an ice skating date and it was lots of fun. The rink wasn’t too crowded and there were lots of kids, adults and couples. They have these small blue assistant things that a lot of the kids were using to skate without falling but I really liked using them to go fast haha.
I fell once from being too adventurous trying to go fast and ran into the ice skating rink wall from racing my date to the Christmas tree lol Not bad for not having skated since 2007 lol
It was $ 30 to ice skate with rentals for 2 and the employees hold your shoes when you rent out the skates. No lie though the ice skates kind of hurt because they are a one-​size-​fits-​all with not much arch support.
But nonetheless, still a memorable time! Even skated backwards twice haha: D

This place is TERRIBLE. First thing to know is this skating rink is tiny. It’s more of a skating pond then rink. The ice is not taken care of at all and it is impossible to have a smooth skating session. However the worst thing about this place are the skates that you can rent. I rented 2 pairs of skates within five minutes of skating I had a bleeding blister on my foot and so did my 5 year old sister. We skated for five minutes and had to get off the ice because our feet were bleeding. I asked for a refund since I had spent 30 dollars for five minutes which they refused. Never coming back

My son and I go multiple times during each winter season. It is make Christmas break perfect each year.

We always enjoy this rink when in town! Cute, fun, and it’s nice having koi fish and ducks in the next pond over. For real ice skating we prefer the Camarillo rink, but this is very sweet and perfect for the holidaze. The only downside is the variety of people who come and skate, for example, a bunch of teens came and knocked our happy 10 year old down on accident flailing about speeding around. No tears but a black and blue knee to end the night. We all had a great time, including the little one, but it does get crowded.

The Thousand Oaks Ice Rink is so awesome! I always look forward to coming to skate every holiday season and it is fairly priced too. Every time I go the customer service is always great! Definitely a fun activity to do over the holiday season!

We love this ice skating rink! It is one of our favorite Christmas activities! We have been coming for the past 3 years and is well worth us making an hour drive. The outdoor rink is so beautiful and so pretty at night. We definitely recommend coming and making it a holiday tradition for your family as well!

Used to work at this rink for 3 years. Such a fun establishment to work for have the chance to go skating at. I actually learned how to ice skate (not by instructors but on my own and with the help of friends). I still visit the rink as a customer and I have yet to go this season. I know they just opened up on Thursday but I am planning on next weekend going for the first time this weekend.
As a customer this review is based off what I had seen and experienced:
Pros:
–the outdoor rink. Beautiful at night. Best time to go. Bring a jacket and wear jeans. It is a smaller rink but it’s not a bad thing, especially if no one or hardly anyone is on the ice.
–the price: they used to charge $ 3 for figure skates and $ 4 for hockey skates, but now it’s a flat rate of $ 4. I use hockey skates to skate, although I finally got my own pair last year.
–the staff: most of the staff is friendly. Cashiers, skate shop crew, and rink guards. The company hires a variety of different folks so there usually different people every time and changes each year cause it is seasonal.
Cons:
–the price: the price has gone up over the years. Used to be $ 9 to skate for a hour season, and there are certain times you have to go there to skate. The cost of skates is $ 4, now whereas before it was $ 3 for figure and $ 4 for hockey. The admission cost has also increased to $ 10.
–rink guards: I don’t fall often and most of them I met have been helpful if I do! But I’ve noticed some don’t pay attention on the ice. There’s rules about what direction to skate it, making chains with friends on the ice, and carrying people on the ice. It’s a no-​no! Last year especially when I went, I went about 7 or 8 times, only once did I meet a rink guard who actually helped people up and enforced the rules. And usually management is supposed to enforce or keep an eye but the ones last year when I went didn’t really try to. This was disappointing to me cause I was a former employee and know the rules. I had seen different when I worked there with enforcing rules, but then again the management changes each year because it is seasonal.
–lockers and cubbies: the rink had an option of lockers for a quarter or cubbies for free to put shoes and purses in. Last year the cubbies were eliminated. Rather than wanting to pay for a locker we like everyone else left our stuff on the benches. It is wet due to weather or even the ice from skating so be careful about putting stuff down.
Other than that these are my opinions based off of my experience as a customer. With those minor tweaks, I would’ve gave this review 5 stars but it’s not perfect. I still love coming here and will continue to as long as it’s open!

Great to be able to ice skate while it is still fairly warm.
The sessions are 1 hour long. $ 10 for admission + $ 4 skate rentals. So $ 28 for two on a date.
The rink is small, but nicely placed over the lake in the Thousand Oaks Civic Plaza.
Finish off with food at one of the many adjacent restaurants including Claim Jumper, Unami Burger, and PF Chang’s.
