Honeymoon Ice Cream

I purchased vanilla and southern pecan from Whole Foods, so I’m not sure how it compares to the fresh product. Unfortunately the store bought product did have an icy top (I suspect the mason jar packaging is the cause), but beneath that was a highly aerated ice cream. Personally, I like dense, rich ice cream and this definitely wasn’t it. Flavors were muddled and bland. At $ 10+ a jar, I will not repurchase. Even at $ 3 a jar, I would not repurchase. This was a miss for me all across the board.

$ 10 for a small canning jar of ice cream at Safeway. The ice cream itself is smooth like whipping cream. Just another thing to say I tried and too pricey to continue to buy.

I’m not sure what’s with the batches that other reviewers experienced, because both times I tried Honeymoon ice cream I was wow’ed.
The first flavor I tried (and one that I now go for over and over) is the Blueberry Lavender. Wow. I couldn’t taste the blueberry specifically, but it was more of a fruity tang to juxtapose the deliciously floral flavor. It’s sweet and deeply infused with lavender but somehow manages to not be overwhelming. Certainly the best lavender ice cream since ever tried.
The white chocolate mint is also excellent, but more subtle is tone. The mint chips are a good size – large enough to give textural distinction but small enough to not distract from the overall bite.
As good as the ice creams are, Honeymoon’s snickerdoodles are even better. They snap but don’t crumble and have just a light sprinkle of good-​quality cinnamon in them. These are unexpected showstoppers and great companions to the ice cream.
Others have complained about the texture. Yes, I’d say that the ice cream is a little airier than most, but the batches I had were far from icy. There is a good amount of butterfat in them which gives it a smooth, creamy consistency. It’s just likely that Honeymoon doesn’t have the expensive compactors that high-​end creameries like Bi-​Rite have to remove the tiny pockets of air within the ice cream. I don’t mind that. A less-​dense but still-​smooth ice cream makes it easier to scoop and eat.
Honeymoon is expensive. $ 11 a jar. But for excellent ice creams that have me moaning aloud like the blueberry lavender did, the price tag is fair and worth it.

Good ice cream! Fun flavors and light creamy textures. Love that it is less wasteful by putting in reusable mason jars.

I purchased honeymoon brown butter plum flavour. Yes the flavour is brown butter but it was more like brown sugar. It was far too sweet. Also there was supposed to be plum. Nope no plum. Not even any plum flavour. All sugar. It was the worst ice cream I have ever had (even other melted/​refrozen ones are better) :’(
Is this normal? Did I get a bad batch? I wasn’t going to pay $ 11 to try again so giving them the benefit of the doubt I contacted Honeymoon via email to clear it up.
After writing to honeymoon and having no response — they get one star. It is not good enough in this day and age to have non existent customer service and not respond on social media.
Honeymoon you are still a small company so do the small things right. Do right by your customers.

Got Chocolate Laurel at whole food, it was great.
I tried at the past some other flavor sand I really like most of them.
This is not a cheap ice cream, but the ingredients are great (for ice cream :)) and the leftover jar is cool and useful.
Read some complains about Icy texture — this happened often with better quality ice creams if the store do not handle it with care or when sits too long. Just find different store.

Nice flavor, and organic, but waaaaayyyy too much air whipped in, and a lot of additives. For $ 11a jar, I expect the additives and stabilizers out, and no air whipped in. Let the quality ingredients shine through.

Tried both the vanilla and the lavender blueberry. Both completely amazing. Can’t wait to try out some of the other flavors. Nice texture. Great packaging. Worth the price.

Came across this ice cream at whole foods. Adorable mason jar packaging and interesting consistency. It’s more like a jar of frozen whipped cream. Good flavor, price was a bit steep at $ 11, but enjoyable product.

Agree with all the reviews for the ice cream purchased in mason jars. I have no problem paying $ 11 for a pint of ice cream. Jeni’s and McConnells are amongst my favorites. Was hoping to add this one to the list but Breyers is even way more delicious than this in my opinion. The texture tastes like frozen whip cream with ice bits.

I hate seeing these bad reviews for honeymoon. So I’m going to go ahead and add my own good one! I came across their packed ice cream at a molly stone’s grocery store, and thought, how cute… mason jar ice cream, nom. $ 11 price tag doesn’t deter me from cute and potentially delicious things. So, I got the hazelnut one and it was delicious! It was a bit gritty in a good way because they were real hazelnuts grinded up and mixed in. So… I was hooked and tried another flavor… it was delicious, too! Smooth ice cream that stays soft and potent flavors. So, I’ve had pretty consistent experience with them, sounds like the kinks have been worked out in their jarring process.
Although…I kinda wish the jar lid was easier to maneuver. The edges and the rest of the lid don’t stay together and it’s a pain to reopen since I don’t finish my pint in one sitting. And when it’s done, I can’t reuse the lid since it comes apart. O wells.

I just paid $ 11 for a mason jar of Honeymoon brown butter plum ice cream, foolishly assuming like most of us that it would be really special. The texture of the ice cream was watery and icy, it was overly sweet and the pieces of oat were dry and added nothing to the flavor. Oh, the mason jar was fine. What a waste of money.

I stood for a good 10 minutes in front of the frozen dessert section of a speciality grocery store and finally selected the Honeymoon Chocolate-​Laurel Ice Cream… I figured that if I was paying over $ 10 for a pint, it would be awesome. ehhh. no… wrong! sorry to say but the ice cream felt too «airy» and did not taste all that great. Not sure if their other flavors were better but I am not going to spend another $ 10 to find out! sorry, honeymoon — I really hope this experience was an anomaly!

This review is also for the ice cream packaged in jars and sold in stores. Specifically we bought it at Alameda Natural Grocery.
Let me start by saying that I love ice cream as do the 3 others I was with. On ¹⁄₁₉ we were on our way to the beach and stopped at Natural Grocery to pick up some sandwiches. My friend called all of us over to the frozen aisle for something they «had to show us.» It was the beautiful, handmade, delicious, mason jar-​contained Honeymoon Ice Cream. There were five flavors and they looked delightful. Even with the $ 11 price tag for a small jar, we decided it was too perfect for our little picnic.
We grabbed the Chocolate Laurel /​Cookies and Cream. We opened it up in the middle of the four of us and each took a bite. 1, 2, 3, 4. What the heck was that. Powdery, airy, chalky, huh? Tried again. Oh no. It tasted like ice cream that had been melted down and refrozen into the day after bubbly frozen paste. We thought, maybe if we mixed it up. There was some chocolate looking ice cream on the bottom with the cookies and cream on top. We began mixing and before we finished the total volume of the jar had gone from ⁴⁄₅ full (we had taken a number of bites) to about ¹⁄₅ full. More than half the jar had been just air bubbles.
A line had been crossed. An $ 11, bad-​flavored, ¹⁄₅ full jar of ice cream. I wanted to like it. I love ice cream. But this shouldn’t happen. Maybe it was a bad batch. I hope so. For now, I’ll just stick with Three Twins or McConnell’s.

They have some great flavor ideas, and who doesn’t want something packaged in a mason jar? I chose chocolate laurel.
While the flavor was great, I found a wadded up piece of paper in my ice cream. When I un-​wadded it, it was a circle about 3 inches in diameter, that looked like a liner of some sort. What’s it doing in my ice cream? And, if something that size can get into their packaging system, what else can?
If I were the small business owner, I would want to know this. I contacted the company via email to let them know. After two days, I haven’t received a response.
Unfortunately, poor food safety practices plus non responsive customer service makes me hesitate to buy their ice cream again.

Honeymoon Ice Cream is amazing! I wanted to deliver some ice cream to my sister who was home sick. The person who handles deliveries is out for a few days, but Gerald went out of his way and hand-​delivered the ice cream to make sure she got it the same day, even though that is not his typical role. My sister has reported back: both flavors (Chocolate Laurel and Almond Toffee) are DELICIOUS! Can’t wait to visit her and try some of this ice cream myself!

Amazing ice cream. Where did they get these brilliant ideas for flavors? I could hardly believe what I was tasting… Can’t decide which I liked the most. Will have to try another tasting

Honeymoon Ice Cream is ice cream like you’ve never had before. Their flavors are really exciting and pair well with any dessert. Also their staff is really friendly and helpful.
