The Cove at Tiburon

It’s a mixed bag right now. We’ve been here a year, contemplating whether or not to renew. The upside: views are amazing. Neighbors are mostly great. Staff is making an effort to do some fun community events and concierge services. The downsides, however, are pretty major: 1) The neighborhood isn’t near as safe as they’ll tell you. BOTH of our bikes have been stolen this past month in two separate incidents (May & June 2016). They were very well locked in our carport, and my car was damaged as one of them was stolen. Some of our neighbors have also forgotten to lock their cars and thieves have gone through them in the parking lot at night (not full on break ins, but still invasive, expensive and frustrating). 2) When we moved in, they were supposed to have the gym/​lap pool ready by Dec 2015. Now they’re saying summer 2016 but they’re still a LONG way from done, so we’re paying for a gym which is a huge extra expense on top of «luxury» rent. 3) They are about to start pile driving/​quake retrofitting June 2016 — Sept 2016. We work from home and won’t be able to be inside our apartments 8 am — 5 pm for weeks at a time, and we’ll have to find daytime pet care for our dogs for most of the summer which will be a costly pain. 4) Our downstairs neighbor’s bathroom has flooded 2+ times which is a big bummer for him, but becomes a pain for us every time it happens too… unannounced visits, repairs, etc. And while the repair people are always very responsive and very nice, the work they do is pretty shoddy: i.e. we currently have an air duct that blows the majority of our heat into one of our kitchen cabinets (code violation), we currently have a hot electrical wire running under our carpet as a «fix» to an outlet that wasn’t working (MAJOR code violation not to mention fire hazard). So in short… it’s pretty here. It’s generally a nice place to live. But it’s also a hot mess a lot of the time, largely due to construction. We just drink cocktails on the deck and try to pretend it’s not happening.

The Cove is an amazing place with amazing amenities right on the water! They also have a wonderful captain and mate team of Mike and Allie. They maintain the marina, manage the kayaks/​paddle boards and will charter you on their boat! I had the pleasure of a sunset cruise on Saturday night. It is really turning into a fun community!!! I’ve lived at The Cove for six months and I’ve enjoyed the experience. However, the icing on the cake had to be an evening sail with Captain Mike and Allie. It never occurred to me that the amenities at my complex could make such a difference; and the team at The Cove is just getting started.

The Cove is a wonderful place to live these days! Captain Mike is a most valuable addition to the staff at the Cove — under his management the Maintenance at the Cove has a new out look and attitude — this is a tribute to his ability to work people from all backgrounds.
My beautiful new stove had an issue a few months back and the Cove replaced my stove. I did the happy dance! This all happened within 24 hours!
There is a dog washing station near buy our apartment — such a convenience and a great addition to the services provided by the Cove.
The Cove is a lovely place to live and with the new management in place it is a place to enjoy your life!

I wrote a pretty horrific review for this complex not too long ago, and to be honest, at the time, it deserved it. The management was really more worried about getting tenants into the units than making sure the units were finished to the best of standards. Mine was one of those units. I had complained about it for quite some time to no avail. However, when the new management took over and I again submitted my complaints, within two weeks, I was in a new comparable unit of my choosing, that they paid to move me to. They gave me the cell phone numbers of both the general manager and the head of maintenance and if I so much as sneeze, there’s someone at the door asking what I need. That NEVER happened before. Basically, if you were already in a unit, you didn’t exist to the old management. That has really changed. They have corrected the mistakes made by previous management and are not repeating those same mistakes in their new units.
And yes, some of the current amenities listed aren’t available right now. But would you rather have your clubhouse done right, where your guests can sit and enjoy this beautiful view, or a half-​assed chop-​job that’s just thrown together? Yes, it’s taking longer, but I’ll wait for the remodeled amenities like the ones that sold me on this complex in the first place. I’ve seen it before they started the remodel, it’s gorgeous outside during the summer. And it’s not like there aren’t pools and spas all over the complex. There are. And the management provides a complimentary membership to a very nice gym. It’s not like we’re suffering through nothingness. We are well taken care of. Yes, our utilities fluctuate because no one, and I do mean no one, uses exactly the same amount of water every month. No one flushes their toilet the exact same amount of times every month. This should go without saying.
Plus, I have a 180 sqft. private deck and a 145 sqft. private balcony that we use just like living area. We see the sun rise in the morning and set over the water in the evening. We prepare food on marble countertops, cook with chef’s appliances, watch that sunset in front of a roaring fire, and get ready in the morning in a sizeable, well-​appointed bathroom.
The bottom line is that I challenge you to find a better, luxury, newly-​remodeled apartment on the water in Marin County for a better price. We’re here because we couldn’t find an apartment at a better price ANYWHERE. My partner works at the San Francisco VA Medical Center near Land’s End, and this is such a great location if you work in the city. I can’t tell you what to do, but I can tell you that I’ll be living here as long as we’re in San Francisco. Period.

I wrote a review 14 months ago when I first arrived at the Cove at Tiburon. Unfortunately, my review was not good. Things have not changed since my initial review. I currently rent a two bedroom apartment (off the water). Monthly rent for my unit is $ 4,825.00. Additionally, there are monthly utility fees added to the rent. There is no clarity as to the utility charges, which vary significantly month to month (although my usage of utilities does not). It appears the facility was recently audited as we all received a letter on our doors last Thursday, 3÷31÷16 in regards to how utilities are calculated and dispersed among residents. The letter provided little clarity other than informing residents that an equation is used in determining how much each unit is charged for utilities.
In return for the astronomical rent, several amenities are advertised. Here’s a direct quote from
website, «Every day at The Cove starts with amazement. This beautiful community of townhomes and bungalows is built right on the bay. Surrounded by nature, residents also benefit from a private, state-​of-​the-​art fitness center, a resort-​style clubhouse, and a heated indoor pool and spa. And all this only a few feet from a private marina with views that Instagram was invented for.»
In reality, the aforementioned «State of the Art Fitness Center» does not exist and the club house has been under construction the entire 14 months that I have lived here. It’s completely unavailable to residents (anyone for that matter). The indoor heated pool and spa do NOT exist. Some residents who complained were quieted down with free memberships to SF Fitness in Marin (This offer was not extended to all residents). I will say that in addition to the aforementioned referenced indoor pool, The Cove has two additional outside pools. One at Barberee Way and one at Captains Landing. The pool at Barberee way has been closed due to construction since last fall. As of today (4÷4÷16), the pool at Captain’s Landing is closed due to construction. Here’s the email sent out by management last week notifying us of the closure (no previous warning that all three pools would be closed at once),
«* Barbaree Way Pool: Next week we’ll complete the concrete for the new Barbaree Way pool deck, install new fencing and build the new barbeque area. The weather delays and subsequent rescheduling of site contractors have been resolved, and we have a firm grand opening date of April 15.
* Captain’s Landing Pool: On April 4, demolition of the Captain’s Landing pool will begin. While we make enhancements to the pool, four spaces in the northeast corner of the Captain’s Landing parking area will be closed beginning April 1 for the next eight weeks.
* Clubhouse: We’ve finished pouring the concrete for the new parking stall, and the drainage work is complete. Next week, the contractor will build the concrete forms for the new stairs, ramp and planters in front of the building. The concrete floors inside the building have been poured and framing is complete. Electrical and mechanical rough-​in will be mostly finished by April 15.»
There is no sign that the Barberee pool will be completed on time and the Club House is several months from being completed. Thus, there are NO pools, Club House or available amenities as advertised and PAID FOR. Simply put, residents of The Cove such as myself pay an inordinate amount of money on a monthly basis for amenities which don’t exist.
Furutre interested renters be warned. The Cove is fraudulent and fails to deliver on its advertised amenities. If you want to pay extremely high rent prices for nothing in return, then this is the place for you. You should also be warned that dredging of the harbor is scheduled to resume this summer. There is no AC at the Cove and thus doors and windows are your only means of cooling your apartment. This means that during the summer months when dredging occurs you won’t be able to escape the noise (which is awful for the majority of the work day) as your windows/​doors will be open. Additionally, the fumes of diesel from the dredging machinery used will permeate your apartment. Anyone with respiratory illness should likely steer clear completely.
I am not a person who often complains and you can take or leave my experience/​comments. I write this review as a means to help any potential victim avoid experiencing the unpleasant living experience I’ve had over the past 14-​months. There is no accountability at the Cove and these behaviors will persist long after my departure. I sat on my balcony this weekend and listened to the advertising campaign given the three difference couples looking at units near mine. Not one of them was advised of the closure of our pool (two days after such appointment). When I signed my lease, I was told that the Club House would be completed within three months of my move in date. That was 11 months ago and as stated above. there is no Club House at present.

My family and I recently relocated from Seattle, and not knowing the area we chose to rent before buying into the Bay Area real estate market. After a few months we’ve decided to extend our stay as the Cove and surrounding area is truly exceptional. The renovations to the facility are wrapping up and the amenities are constantly improving. With boat slips immediately adjacent to the apartments we opted to purchase our first boat. Captain Mike, who lives and works on the premises, is extremely knowledge, helpful and supportive!

Like a fine wine, the Cove is starting to hit the right notes. Management is on the ball these days, they have fresh new blood, the grounds are looking beautiful and they are almost finished with their massive renovation overhaul. We are fortunate to be right on the Marina and are enjoying our new unit very much. Cheers to Captain Mike and all of the hard workers.

My apartment looks like new, great kitchen with marble surfaces and luxury appliances.
The Nest thermostat is a great device and looks very good in the middle of the apartment.
A few steps from my door we have the «wash station for pets», great idea. I use it a lot of times in these raining days.
We really recommend you to take this option to live near to San Francisco with the peacefully of Tiburon.
Great place to live, great location and excellent management team.

I currently live at Highlands Of Marin in San Rafael. So I have a standard of living that I would like to stay. I read all the reviews so I could be better prepared before I went to look at The Cove.
I was shocked when I got there. The place doesn’t look like the pictures at all. Maybe the bad ones but not the pretty ones on the website. Renter beware.
I saw a lot of the poor construction that Unilocalers talked about and for what its worth you could just rent a house for the price.
Also do not live here if you love dogs. I went to look at the place having both a Pitt bull and a Rottweiler.
They did not tell me about this breed restriction until I got there. So the tour wasted my time.
Also breed restrictions don’t exactly help our rescue efforts in the Bay Area do they.

Area is beautiful, great place if you want to see birds, harbor seals, lots of sail boats, and nice sun sets along Mt Tam. October 2015 seeing a couple river otters playing on the docks in the late morning and early afternoon time. The Pelicans are more abundant later in the year and we are seeing lots now.
The Cove is a ⁴⁄₅ for views but a ½ on cost.
The people in the leasing office are all friendly and helpful.

Full of rats, mice and assorted vermin, this hedge fund (Rockpoint Group) cash cow is not for the faint-​hearted. Rat traps scattered throughout the grounds cannot keep up with the rodent population!

We lived in The Cove while our house was under renovation. This place is wonderful, so unique and peaceful! The views are absolutely breathtaking! Can you imagine to see whole San Francisco, Belvedere island, Alcatraz, Bay Bridge and views of the Bay at the same time?! It was a pleasure to wake up to those views! I am attaching a pic, so you can judge for yourself.
The units have great open layout and very spacious! Overall very cozy and charming.
There is a private beach, which is perfect for kids to run around and have some sea adventures.
This is an amazing park walking distance away.
Quick and easy commute to SF, appx 15min.
Personnel is super helpful and sweet.
Neighbors were nice and friendly.
Highly recommend to everyone!

DO NOT SIGN A LEASE TO LIVE HERE! You will regret the day you ever saw the place. Save your money go somewhere else. Listen to those of us who have suffered The Cove.
So you’ve been on a tour of the «new and improved» property called The Cove? Think you’re in the big leagues now, paying well over $ 4000 a month for poorly constructed refurbished apartment? The Cove has been the joke of Tiburon for a while. How they command the absurdly high prices for a place built in 1969 that is sinking into the bay mud is beyond me. Sure it is a beautiful area and the view is spectacular but really you will pay very dearly for the beauty.
First the asbestos removal was handled in poor fashion. Yes, you read correctly, asbestos. Each and every apartment was loaded with asbestos. While under construction, when a person moved out, they gutted the units blew all the asbestos dust out into the common areas despite people still living in the units surrounding.
Dredging is still an issue and you should have heard about it last year. They dredged until midnight or later, starting as early as 5 am — 7 days a week, even holidays. Think of the loudest heavy equipment construction, then multiply it by 20, day in and out that noise went on with out a break for over 100 days. They didn’t care about the fish spawn season or the environmental damage. Imagine that ruckus during your Thanksgiving day dinner? And we fought The Cove management, the permits department and the dredging company tooth and nail too. Management does not care one bit about their tenants. Never have nor will they ever, once you sign a lease you are nothing more to them than a rent check.
The construction is the cheapest and shoddiest crap I’ve ever seen. We inspected apartments as they were built and I think a Motel 6 looks better. The advertisements say «wood» floors, but don’t be fooled, it is vinyl flooring and if you think your child will get out of there unscathed from those floors, think again. — Take a deep breath when viewing the apartment, the noxious fumes alone should have been a huge warning.
Also the construction was done quickly and very cheaply. In order to get more rent, they would literally cut a bedroom in half to make three bedrooms. Although technically and legally without a closet they really can’t call it a three bedroom but guess what, they did and charged some of those poor fools $ 7000 a month rent. Imagine that?
If you want to really get to know more about this outfit, check out Maximus Real Estate or Realty. Heard about the battle going on in Mission District where families are being displaced for their «affordable housing» that starts at $ 5000/​month. They used the same tactics at The Cove to drive out the current residents before construction, some who had lived on the property for more than 20 years. Yes, they offered a deal, but that still be double the rent people were currently paying.

There is so much more that I could write about this place. Homeless living in the club house and under some buildings. Even had police chase off a «homeless» guy that lived on his boat that was parked on the street for two months, no help from the complex either. Kids throwing rocks at vehicles, practicing parkour using your expensive car to jump on, loud screaming for no reason and no assistance at all from management to control the situation. Management even allowed an untrained, un-​neutered pit bull that had never been to a vet to roam the property freely. When complaints were made to management, they turned the letters over to the dog owner and the dog remained on the property for another six months. Then there’s the jerk that speeds by in his boat everyday — the same old man who refuses to put a shirt on his sagging body who also uses the pool and hot tub as his own personal bathtub. No matter how many complaints are filed, the management does absolutely nothing.
While I cannot give negative stars, I will say the one star is about what the view ends up being worth after you deduct all the crappy construction, poor management and other nonsense. For those thinking about moving in here, just don’t do it. Look for all the one star reviews, they are hidden but they are there. We have all experienced insane crap at The Cove. People have been hurt, they’ve even sued — prior management especially — but this new management is not any better. You’re on Unilocal looking to find the truth, it is not worth the money. It is crap, all of it. Best continue your search, spend your money on renting or buy a nice house.
If you’ve already signed, well, I’m sorry for you. Enjoy the view if you can.

We originally moved in around May of 2015 in to a 2BR unit directly on the water. I have had my fair share of issues (as you would know if you read my previous review):
–construction noise /​exhaust
–heat issues related to not being able to open windows due to the dredging operations for a few weeks
–relatively thin walls transmit sound
It is now December of 2015 and I am taking this opportunity to update this review (previously 1 star) because *much* has changed. The construction has made massive progress and we no longer have a barge outside our window. Almost all of the units have tenants in them and it is starting to feel like an actual community. Even though the walls are thin, at these prices you end up with very responsible neighbors (likely in high paying jobs) and sound has not been an issue at all.
There is something magical about having a family of sea lions swim by your deck on the water on a daily basis. The grounds are kept up meticulously. Management has become more responsive to construction issues and they are much much better about sending out updates to the community on potential time frames and noise impact. Speaking of management, The Cove is doing an awesome job putting together community events and my hats are off to them. Some other great improvements like electric vehicle charging, dog washing stations and so forth.
We have started to take more advantage of what this area has to offer. For example, we are literally a few blocks from Blackie’s Pasture and one of the most beautiful parks and bicycle paths in the entire Bay Area. The convenience of having Paradise shopping center across the street has been awesome as they have great selection of gourmet food.
The remodel was done better than I first thought. Our energy bill has been very low, indicating they did a good job with the new windows and sealing. The kitchen still looks brand new, so it must be sealed well enough. The bathrooms could use a touch more calk. I can imagine if they were to try to sell these as condos, these truly would be (easily) $ 1M+ units.
What would make it a ⁵⁄₅? If the construction was *completely* finished and the new club house was open.

Amazingly terrific — condominium quality. Nicest apartments I have ever experienced. The units are designer spectacular with marble, super-​premium appliances (e.g. Italian gas stoves, European refrigerators, in-​apartment washer & dryers), beautiful balconies, double-​pane windows, etc.
Have a great view of Mt. Tamalpais over the water which is a beautifully peaceful thing for any apartment. Landscaping has been completely re-​done and there are electric vehicle connections in the car-​ports. Plus if you have a boat or kayak there is a full marina.
I read the review about poor construction and can only say this unit’s quality of construction is terrific.

I’m a new resident at the Cove at Tiburon and wish like anything I could turn back the clock to the point of not signing the lease. This is a newly remodeled property and construction is less than satisfactory. Kitchen cabinets have no shelves in them. They are basically useless. Management refuses to order shelves, which are clearly missing. Given the inappropriate closet rods used, closet doors don’t open or close once clothes are placed on the rods. I’m told my downstairs neighbors hear absolutely everything that happens in my unit. I recently had a noise complaint against me for walking across my kitchen floor, closing kitchen cabinets and using my garbage disposal. I don’t wear shoes in the house and most cabinets are self closing which precludes slamming and/​or excessive noise. Thus, I was given such complaint for normal everyday living. I often hear the noises of the neighbors on the sides of me. Although the surrounding area is beautiful, the Cove at Tiburon is a complete zero. Renter be aware, the beauty of this place is only skin deep and living conditions are completely substandard. Brady

I’ve had nothing but a great experience living here. The staff at the office are friendly and accommodating. The maintenance staff attends to any issues quickly, and professionally. It’s a great place to live, and the renovated units look incredible.

I used to like this place. But now new owners are jacking rents over 40% and displacing families and elderly people. And they will not give clear information as to the timelines about it either
Too bad. Because I moved here with my autistic son and did not plan on having to move so quickly. It also creates major problems and how to keep my kids in the local school system. They have really messed up many families

If only it were possible to give negative 5 Stars. What the people below who just moved in and gave high ratings don’t realize is that they have been lied to. The place has been purchased by the lowest form of life investors who are systematically evicting everyone from their place, dishonestly submitting piecemeal proposed changes to the county and Strawberry Review Board (the place happens to be in unincorporated Tiburon so does not fall under Tiburon’s jurisdiction) and forcing out families and senior citizens, who have made up the majority of the rental population at The Cove for decades. They have then raised the rents on the empty units 40 to 50% above what was already high rents in this area for a tiny apartment dwelling, setting the market rate in Tiburon higher so that the few remaining rentals in Tiburon could then raise their rents to match. For example, units recently vacated by force are now listed for rent on popular websites — 2 BR unrenovated units formerly renting for $ 2600 are now listed for $ 6000 and 3 BR units formerly renting for somewhere around $ 4800 are listed for $ 7200. They have now started a disastrous, creepy, capitalistic downward spiral, making it impossible for anyone middle to lower upper middle class to live in Tiburon.
Those below will be getting their notices, It takes a while to force out 800 people in nearly 300 units. Then let’s see their reviews. We were there for 3 years, had planned to stay for another 9 years for my son to finish school. My husband was born and raised here, and I have been in Tiburon myself for 20 years. This was our home. Had we not found a new place in a hurry I would have been forced to move my son from his school mid school year. The VP, who runs the place, is a world class A-​HOLE who clearly lacks a soul! He simply said «oh well, «when I voiced my concern about uprooting my son in the middle of the school year. He also conveniently lost our lease «when the software from the old company switched over.» Then when we gave our 30 day notice they actually called to say we had a lease through December! This is only a few of the 100s of encounters that we and our neighbors (and residents at their other wonderful establishment-​Serenity at Larkspur) have had with him.
Be very careful if you rent here. These people are low life bottom feeders!

Unlike many reviewers, I’ve actually been pretty satisfied at The Cove in the 18 months I’ve lived here. The location on Richardson Bay is just great. The maintenance crew is responsive. The grounds are attractive. It’s true, the apartments have some quirks (such as screens inside the sliding glass doors rather than outside), but overall, I’ve been pleased.
Sutro Management Group bought the property in Fall 2013 and their clear intention is to clear out the old residents who they perceive as paying below market rents, renovating the apartments and then charging new exorbitant «market» rates because, as I’ve been told in the rental office «rents are going up in San Francisco.»
They give people five days notice about the imminent renovation of their apartment and to tell them what their plans are — stay or go. Don’t believe what the men in the rental office tell you (which isn’t much). They’re hedging their bets and don’t care about the current tenants or turn over.
Given that the place will be a construction site for the foreseeable future and the aim of the new management company is to gouge future tenants for every last cent, I recommend running away from The Cove as quickly as possible. Do not move here. Do not stay here.

We love it here. I’m sure there are plenty of things I can grip about in regards to amenities and a few issues with the grounds. We moved here a few months ago and we simply love the area. When this place opened and for the price we were so happy considering how high all the other places were. Karla was awesome. She made us feel at home and really made us feel like she had our best interests in mind.
But to give you a little insight The Cove is under new management. They developed Serenity. This place really needs some improvement but at what cost. Jacking up the rent 25% every year is really tough to want to make our permanent home. I’m giving this place 4 stars because i love it here but I may have to write a new review after the rent increase.
I really feel that this new management group should consider giving existing tenants a lower increase to keep existing renters happy.

The leasing process should have been a tip off. Was quoted a price on a specific unit and received material via email. Called to say I was on my way. «Great. Come on over. We’ll hold it for you.» I arrive within 40 minutes of receiving email BUT apartment has been leased —A WEEK AGO. «No that wouldn’t be the price. That’s $ 400 too low.» Oh you received that quote from 2 different people and in writing. Sorry, they’re not empowered to give quotes.”
The writing was on the wall but I had a week to move out and in so I bit. Crazy management. Weeks of construction that made it impossible to hear one think. Maintenance delays. Leaks. Some tenants had their walkways taped off for months so they had to take crazy circuitous routes to their homes.
In comes new management so all the residents are excited that things will change. Conditions haven’t but prices have. They were already steep but now exhorbitant. Some units are going up 40%!!! And more construction will be taking place. A lot more. Which means more jackhammers.
Do not get blinded by the idea of living near the water. The facilities and management are not worth the money. And who wants to live with a bunch of disgruntled neighbors?

Almost a year into the lease, not happier now than I was in the beginning. We’ve had the call maintenance several times, and they never came the first time around — parts are not ordered, they run out of time… Blah, blah blah. A year later, the garbage disposal is still not fixed and it took 3 months to finally get a bin for the ice machine.
I also had a delightful incident with Natasha who other people find so charming. Well, her colleague who was new asked her to check on my file. Problem is… She didn’t realize I was the renter standing right in front of her and she started bashing me until I said, hey lady, this is me you are talking about. Then… You yes, she was the charming gal that others are talking about. Whether it was me or another renter, it is completely unacceptable to bad mouth your client in front of somebody else.
I had my car damaged by a neighbor too old to drive who «doesn’t think» she hit my car when she pulled out from her space… So the paint on her bumper aligning perfectly with the scratches on my car must be just an illusion.
The neighbor downstair will call you every name in the book — which is almost funny coming from a 80 something years old.
So no, still not happy, the list is only getting longer.

Just moved into the Cove Apartments, and I must be living in a different place than the negative reviews I’m reading. Natashia Smith, Talia, and Carla in the front-​office helped me with difficult problems and maintained a completely cheerful and helpful manner, slicing through my difficulties effortlessly. It’s somewhat expensive, but hey, welcome to Marin county, but it’s well maintained, has fabulous views, wild geese and egrets feed right outside my window. My front deck is like a wharf and yesterday I a lovely little golden cat named PING that flirted with me outrageously.
It’s two minutes from the Freeway and yet quiet an calm. I’m very happy here, and bless those cute women in the front office for their help.

If you like to throw away money and constantly be redirected by all means live here.
It is a beautiful neighborhood, very convienent and the amenities are hard to beat, but the management is abysmal. You will not get your security deposit back, they will find hidden things to charge you for and when you need someone to answer a question you will be redirected to 10 different voicemails and no one will ever call you back.
I was referred here by a coworker, she hired professional cleaners and still lost her deposit and was charged extra. My husband and I rented a steam cleaner from safeway and spent an entire week cleaning blinds, baseboards and the oven. We were charged extra after the deposit was witheld. (I swear we’re clean people I’ve always gotten my deposits back)
I truly loved this neighborhood and again the amenities were great. Even though I hardly ever write reviews I knew I had to get on here and warn people about losing their hard earned money, and the endless frustration of the management.

Ugh. Just don’t even think of living here. High rent, absurdly high pet rent, high laundry fees, rude residents.
My apartment at the Cove had a lovely deck that sloped 30 degrees downward.
It also had inefficient baseboard electric heat sunk into the floor. Heating costs at the Cove were through the roof because of the three 1970s single-​pane sliding glass doors that took up the majority of two walls and were not properly insulated.
I could sit on my sofa with both doors shut and feel a cross breeze. Every morning we’d wake up to a living room that was 55 degrees.
The 3 sliding glass doors essentially made the apartment a giant fish bowl. Living here is like being in a scene from Rear Window.
I’m not sure what the $ 45 per month per dog pet rent provided besides poop bags, because there certainly weren’t any pet amenities at the property. It was an excuse for them to charge higher rent.
The high washer rates ($ 2 for a wash and $ 2.25 for a dry!) paid for a washer that regularly failed to complete its spin cycle (requiring the purchase of another wash) and smart card machines that were regularly out of order, despite numerous calls to the laundry company.
When moving out, we received $ 137 back from a $ 1300 deposit. The notion that 600 square feet of cheap carpet costs Sequoia $ 700 is laughable. There is absolutely nothing I could have done in 8 months to a 640 square foot apartment that cost $ 1200.
The other $ 500 went to bullshit cleaning fees like «pet deodorizing» that you *cannot possibly avoid*. I paid $ 90/​mo in pet rent, and then they knock me for another $ 500 in completely unavoidable pet-​related fees on the way out the door.
Good riddance to Sequoia and their «experience».

Still not a fan the laundry room is awful. Always dirty, expensive (stupid card system) not convenient, and people don’t respect your clothes.
In our first month the fire alarm needed new batteries the, CO monitor needed the batteries replaced broke, cabinets door broke off, heating broke, and tiles popped outta the shower. The building is old and cold no insulation.
My car was scratched in covered parking, and almost taken out by a tree in Feb. with the heavy rain. The office did nothing not even moved my spot.
The office staff changes so often, we had to break lease and paid the fee of 1mnth rent. We needed a day or two extra and received a vm confirmation this would be fine
I checked back because they left no indication how much it would cost,
and was told our apartment had been rented and we had to leave by 07÷31÷13
It was like pulling teeth to get one extra day at a rate of $ 69.00.
Seriously you already have a full month rent for our old crappy apartment.
And I am horrified that they would rent our unit without renovating it we were tricked into it.
Someone will take a terrible fall on our poorly lit, poo covered stair case thankfully it won’t be me.
The only redeeming thing I can say is their maintenance staff Eddy and Pedro who visited us often were out of this world.
