My husband and I are young professionals who were looking for not only a ‘tax guy’ but a financial planner who could help to guide us towards sound financial decisions. What we got was a hurried, distracted and rude experience.
When we came into his office, which was dark and cramped, we were met with a sigh. Apparently, he was busy with a ‘million dollar estate’ and we were seemingly not worth his time. What should have taken 1 – 2 hours took over 3 hours because we were constantly interrupted by ‘important’ phone calls and Mr. Efimov yelling rudely to his assistant about the estate. He was extremely disrespectful towards us and the people that he employed the entire time we were in his office.
In the words of my husband, this guy is a bum. We will clearly be seeking another CPA this tax season and for all of our financial planning in the future.

We have gone to Brett Efimov for our taxes since, well, the past few years. 2007, maybe? Either way, it doesn’t matter because once you go, you’ll be a repeat client.
I’m not going to lie: taxes both bore and confuse the hell out of me. I’ve tried my hand at filing via TurboTax, went to a big name chain once or twice, and then we happened onto Brett. If you’re going elsewhere, you’re probably not getting the best possible refund. Brett is pretty much the god of taxes. He knows a ridiculous amount about pretty much everything. So what’s the catch? Does he charge an arm and a leg? Take forever?
No, and also no. He’s more than reasonable and extremely quick. If you haven’t filed yet for 2009, call him. And if you have filed, put him in your Rolodex for next year. And then come back and thank me. Because you will.
