The Blue Moose Grill is one of our favorite restaurants when we visit Topeka. The menu is diverse and the prices are very good. Four of us and a toddler sampled a number of items. While not a place full of children, the waitperson was quick to supply a kids menu and made sure his food came out first(always a plus for us and other diners). The wine menu lists the reds from light to dark and also offers 6oz or 9oz pours as well as the bottle option. I liked this as I am a 1 ½ glass kind of gal. The beer selection was satisfactory to the others at the table. Our artichoke dip was good, nothing special but respectable, served with colorful chips and warm pita, the cauliflower“wings” were served as 4 big flowerets, breaded and fried golden topped with crumbled blue cheese and served with 2 sauces, the standard hot wing sauce and a caramel BBQ sauce. We liked this one a lot. 3 of us had sandwiches. The turkey club is huge! and could be shared. The others enjoyed their turkey pesto panini and grilled short rib sandwiches as well. Me, because I read other Unilocal reviews ordered around the whipped cauliflower and was pleased to see a section of smaller options. I had a small order of Chicken Putanesca served over angel hair pasta. It was delicious. With a fresh and lively red sauce dosed with capers and kalamata olives. The portion was actually quite perfect with appetizers. The whipped cauliflower was, unfortunately, the least enjoyable. While they state it is Paleo friendly it had so much cream in it you could taste the dairy over the cauliflower. I don’t get it. It was also way under seasoned. Bland. Can not recommend. The meal was so satisfying that dessert was not possible but the Lemoncello Cake sounded so good we took a piece home. I mean who wouldn’t love cake soaked in Lemoncello with whipped marscapone cream and fresh strawberries. This was, in reality a dry barely lemon flavored cake with an ok cream that would have sufficed if the cake had any flavor and 4 thin slices of a small overripe strawberry. Sadly disappointing. If I’d skipped the dessert and the cauliflower I’d have given higher rating.

Reliably good food and professional service. Nice wine menu and wide range of menu options. Sunday brunch is lovely too.

One of the nicer restaurants in Topeka. Nice change in pace compared to the typical chains. I am addicted to the salmon club, I get it everrrytime! & I’m never dissapointed! Also got the white sangria, it wasn’t my fave. but I’ll be back for more!

Had the fish tacos. Devoured them. Service was good at the bar, food was better. Music was so so.

The Sunday Brunch Buffet is excellent. There is a huge variety of very well prepared dishes. We’ve eaten lunch on several occasions. The food is always well prepared and quite tasty with a great variety of choices. The staff is always very professional and courteous.

Overrated. They were out of several items at 5pm on a Sunday. Pizza crust is nothing to write home about. Zero flavor. Left feeling unsatisfied

I really so like this place, but am continuously disappointed by the service. I have a regular order: Veggie Burger with cheddar and the fries. Always good food. However, the service is ever changing. I have waited for meals for over an hour and this is really unrealistic when a family is dining out. Maybe they don’t want to be a family place, but then why have a kids menu? On my most recent trip, I went with two friends and my young daughter. I was so glad we ordered an appetizer otherwise it was over 45 minutes to get our entrees. Then they brought everyone’s food out except my daughter saying her fries needed longer. Well I had fries too, and seriously a restaurant should know to ALWAYS bring the kids food first. When I mentioned that we didn’t get her food and it was the most important meal, the person bringing out the food rolled her eyes at me and told me the fry story. Then I watched as she went back to our waitress and complained about me. I could see her calling me names. This bothered me and I made a comment to my friends about not leaving a tip. I later decided against that because it wasn’t the waitress’ fault that the other person was rude. In previous visits, I have experienced long wait times and our order being lost. I am, however, always thankful they seem to be up on refilling my drinks.

Absolutely wonderful meal! I had taken my girlfriend there once before before deciding to go back and try it again. Great service from Kat, our waitress! The food was excellent and it was served in a very timely fashion. The only«bad vibe» per say that I got from the place was the amount of TV’s. There are a lot of them, and if on a date, it is not an ideal situation to find yourself in as it can be very distracting. The restaurant as an aura of classiness while maintaining a healthy mix of sports bar in its liveliness. They have a beautiful patio area with fire pits and tiki torches, just a very relaxed scene.

Look I don’t like this place. I’d call it pretentious without purpose. Our waitress was at our elbow every second rushing so she could get off shift. My petit filet was a piece of chuck someone beat to death with a 2×4. To top it off they put on this disgusting brown syrup. The mashed potatoes were like library paste. The veggies are little cubes of … What? Can someone explain why this place is in business? I’d wager you’d get better food at a third of the price.

I just called this place to inquire about making a reservation for a late Sunday lunch for 9 people to celebrate my mothers Birthday. The lady stated they only take reservations for 10 or more and could not accommodate. POORSERVICE! So much for being a Guest Rewards loyalty member! Take your business elsewhere!

This was one of the best meals I’ve had in a while, barring my recent stint in LA. You’re like, «Luke, stop with these damn 5 star ratings.» Chill out, dude. I haven’t even been giving 5 stars lately. The reason I did today, was because of the lo cal(not so-cal, even though that’s what I’m missing) options for this meal! I ordered the grilled ancho salmon medium rare, and I substituted the dumb ass rice pilaf and non-Popeye-like sautéed spinach with the whipped cauliflower(veggie heaven) and somethin-or-other-succotash. I’m a freakin’ genius!!! The cauliflower is like mashed potatoes, the succotash ain’t sufferin’ at all, and the salmon was charred like a Mickey fickey! Order this, fooool!!! All this was a result of reconfiguration of items from the under 600 calorie menu. I’m going home to search for recipes on the internet so that I can dream of cooking this stuff and then never ever make it in my own home. Man, if I could master that whipped cauliflower I would be a G. I also had three Stellas, but MyFitnessPal said that was okay. Thanks, Moose. Lovin’ your veggies!

Between Kansas City and Topeka, this is definitely the best Blue Moose location. They changed their menu about a year ago, and I definitely miss the chicken madeira pasta, which was my go to item on the menu. The other food is good though, portion sizes are nice, and the place if full of nice, large booths which are excellent for a date night or a private conversation.

Was gratified to be taken here by the ‘rents while I was in town, and I was sure grateful — with the service and the sumptuous portions it’s easy to see that this is one of the capital city’s finer dining establishments. Like pretty much everything else that’s new and shiny in Topeka, it’s on the West Side where pretty much everyone(i.e., white flight) has fled, but the demographics don’t seem to bother the restaurant as it had a very diverse clientele. I ordered my ubiquitous fried pickles, which did not disappoint. The sparse but well manicured wine list yielded a lovely robust Spanish Tempranillo my parents and I shared; dad went for salmon, mom for a rosemary chicken that left us with plenty of leftovers and I went for the special; a chicken fried steak bathed in gravy and smothering some quite fine dirty mashed potatoes. The meal made an impression because unlike so many other restaurants today, we weren’t rushed, the service was slow, but steady in the sense that they weren’t hovering over the table but we didn’t see to want for napkins or fresh refills of water. In fact we were so comfortable we through caution and medical conditions to the wind and had a scrumptious dessert of authentic pecan pie(I add the adjective of authentic because many of you out there know how fake and mealy a nasty pecan pie can be) with a fantastic crust and little pumpkin donuts you could dip into a savory but sweet creamy icing — if I lived back in my home town, I’d visit again!

I think this place is the best place in Topeka. If you want a nice time out with good food, come here. The service is always very good and the menu has a lot to offer. I recommend the macaroni and cheese. It’s fantastic. The only problem with this place is the wait times. Sometimes the wait time is in excess of 1 hour. I would recommend that you pick an off-time to visit so you can get seated more quickly.

We came here on a Sunday right before the«church» crowd started filing in. The buffet was full of a number of delicious choices including sausage, maple ham, scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, fruit, pastas, mac n cheese, meatloaf, chicken tenders, fried fish, salad and an omelet station. I was pleased with the flavors and choices. What I was not pleased with, was the enormous line where people dallied and hemmed and hawed as though we had all morning to get through the line. If I lived in Topeka, I probably wouldn’t do this buffet again because we noted that it was slow the whole time we were there and we overheard several other people complaining about the time it took to get though the line.

I came into town for work and many people suggested this restaurant so I decided to try it. I sat at the bar for HH and ordered the house Chardonnay off the menu, to my surprise it was only $ 3. That’s awesome! The bartenders, Jordan and Steve, were fantastic, very attentive. I then ordered the HH wings which were ok, nothing very special BUT the margarita pizza was so delicious. The crust on the pizza is the best part. I would definitely suggest this restaurant to others if they come into town.

So the place is pretty nice but the music is really bad. Using that math I average a 3 star experience. Get some better music taste I can’t even say it’s hipster irony at play as it is just sorely awful.

Second time at Blue Moose and both times I was impressed. It’s a good ranging menu with some off the mainstream choices yet no so crazy you can’t grab simple comfort foods. Happy hour is not gimmicky, there are honest good deals on drinks. The sangria is great. The chicken nachos appetizer is plentiful, but boring. Dinner wise we both had mac and cheese– seriously was A+. I had mine with broccoli, asparagus, pork belly and truffle oil. Amazeballs. With all the chain restaurants in the area, it’s nice to have an oasis of originality.

After a day on the road, The Blue Moose was just what we were looking for! They have something on their menu for anyone ranging from steaks to specialty mac & cheese to nachos. My traveling buddy ordered the petite filet, but switched out all the sides(which they had no complaints about doing. The filet came out slightly undercooked, but my friend did send it back when given the option. I ordered the chicken nachos. They were delicious! They had a lot of «stuff» which is always a win. We were a bit sad that half of their taps were broken, so we ordered sangrias instead of beers. We were not disappointed when we tried the sangrias, though! Wow! I had the red wine sangria and my friend had the white. They were both delicious. The red was less sweet than the white, so you can keep that in mind when deciding which one to get(because you HAVE) to get one :)

I had lunch here with some clients and thought it was a nice, if unremarkable place for a meal. The décor and atmosphere is really nice — think rustic up-north sports bar but with upscale touches. They have a large patio which looks like a great place to enjoy some drinks when the weather is nicer. The menu is generally«all American favorites» like burgers, wraps, salads and some entrees. Most people should have no issues finding something they’ll like. I originally went with the black bean burger and was told they were out«because the truck won’t come until tomorrow» — so they’re definitely from Sysco which is disappointing. My back up was the turkey burger and that definitely wasn’t made in house either. It wasn’t bad, just nothing special. I do appreciate that you can sub fries for a salad, fruit or coleslaw meaning you can be a little healthier. Our server was really nice and attentive with refilling drinks –always appreciated. Overall, nothing I’d be rushing back for but considering most of the other options in the area are chains, Blue Moose is probably your best bet.
