Holiday Inn Express & Suites Topeka West I-70 Wanamaker

The Holiday Inn Express — Wanamaker is very conveniently located on I-​70, but our experience was not as enjoyable as the HIE on the north side of Topeka. The shower head was great, but the bathroom looked worn with wallpaper peeling and the light switch not correctly installed. There were cobwebs in many of the corners of the room, so we didn’t feel clean. The breakfast was standard fair for all HIE, which is great. The staff was polite, we didn’t check out the pool.

I only give three stars on this because the tub was absolutely filthy. It didn’t appear as though anyone had cleaned it before we got the room. I wonder what else was overlooked before we arrived. We wanted to complain, but we (pregnant wife and 3 yo) had been on the road from Denver, CO, and really needed to get my son a bath and bed. I ended up cleaning it by myself.
On a positive note, the rate was very reasonable and the breakfast was very good. Express check out was also a big bonus, as we wanted to get on the road quickly (we’re moving to VA).
Overall, I enjoyed the stay and I had a positive experience. The only reason I give this a 3 star is the fact that I have stayed at this hotel many times before and I was really let down by the state of the bathroom. Other than that, it’s a wonderful place to stay!

I stayed here for over six weeks and found the overall experience to be very satisfying.
The location is ideal as it is close (15 minutes leisurely walk) to all the restaurants on Wanamaker Road, yet tucked away from the noise and traffic. My GPS always identified it directly off I70 whereas you actually have to reach it by getting off Wanamaker exit then turning left on 10^th street and then left again on Robinson — but its not too difficult to figure out.
The main thing I liked was that rooms were cleaned very well daily without any fuss and they don’t do «light cleaning» that I have come to expect from most other places specially when you stay for long periods, but do a really good job of wiping furniture down and making the room fresh daily.
The breakfast is adequate with eggs, sausage, biscuit, gravy, milk, curd, juice and coffee but the cinnamon rolls are excellent and worth eating every day.
Staff is very friendly and courteous and they helped in picking up my courier when I was out and calling to inform me (you will be surprised to know that many places refuse to do that) however one thing they did not do was to fix the cooling problem that I had with the fridge in my room, but I guess they would have addressed this if I had pressed harder for it.
As with anything else there are areas for improvement, to start with, the fitness center could do with an upgrade, the refrigerator in the room is way too small and way past its due date and does not provide enough cooling to keep ice-​cream in it, the towels are a little harsh, beds are not up to the standard of a DoubleTree and do not allow setting stiffness to suit your comfort level, rooms could use a little air freshener once in a while, complementary water bottles are not provided in rooms, breakfast could have some fresh fruits, cleaning during weekends could be done a little later than 8 a.m. :) etc. but all this is minor compared to the treatment I have got any other places.
Overall the excellent rating is well deserved. Keep it up!!!

Great staff, so-​so breakfast (but they did have hard-​boiled eggs). Under-​going renovations, this HIE is easy to access, and just what you expect from this traveler-​friendly chain.
