Daily Breeze

It’s a shame that this is the only source of local news for my area. I signed up for the online and Sunday-​only delivery service in October. I am able to read the online content just fine. I had a bit of trouble figuring out why I would still get a pop-​up asking me to log in and it wouldn’t recognize my username/​password but I realized that you not only have your Daily Breeze subscriber logon information but you also have to create a username/​password for the service they use to read the stories online (strange why they can’t make that a single-​sign on, but okay). My real problem with this newspaper is the delivery service. It has been a complete nightmare! Since October, I have had to call EVERY Sunday morning as my paper has not yet been delivered during the normal delivery time. When I have called, I have gotten a real person once — just once, and every other time I get an automated service where you have to press keys to enter your issue without speaking to a real person. I contacted the main corporate number after three weeks of dealing with that, and received an email from someone that seemed would resolve the issue — she said she would contact the manager and the delivery person for my area. But now our email exchange has grown to a long chain as I continue to report every Sunday that my paper is not here — again. This is very frustrating, there are a lot of problems for the delivery service.

The worst paper delivery possible! I gave it two weeks. Only one day of correct delivery! Very nice customer service unable to get corrected.

Signed up for a free trial offer outside my local Ralphs market to help out a youth who was ‘fundraising’. It was $ 20 donation. I was told I would receive a $ 10 gift card for taking the trial offer.
I waited patiently for the gift card, which never came. Instead I received a collections letter for about $ 14. Called and expressed my dissatisfaction. They did nothing at all to help remediate the situation. However, they did gladly collect the money they strong armed me into paying (they threaten to damage your credit if you do not pay). Cant wait for a class action suit to be brought against them and they go out of business. Slimy and shady business.

Really over having to call every single weekend to get my paper delivered I pay for and have sales ads or coupons missing when I do get it.

I have missed repeated deliveries of the Daily Breeze and Peninsula News. I had to call weekly so many times that I cancelled both papers. They need to improve their customer service before they lose all their subscribers

FRAUD with my money and opened false accounts with my money!!!
I was visiting Burbank and went to the Von’s grocery store. There were two young men there from the newspaper wanting me to get a subscription. I told them I lived out of state. He said I could still help by giving $ 10.00 and I wouldn’t lose anything because I would receive a $ 10.00 gift card. He took a carbon copy of my c.c. (Which I questioned). He said nothing would come off of my card until I heard from a manager the next day and gave them permission.
I never heard from anyone or received product but they have taken my money twice.
Turns out the nice young man fraudulently opened an account for someone else using my c.c. Completely different name, address and phone number.
The customer service people are awful and keep saying, «well when you ordered the paper…» To which I responded many times over that I did not order the paper. I had to call back three times because I was
mysteriously was hung up on. The reps did not want to let me speak to a manager. I had to get firm and insist. I don’t know if she knew the young man or what.
The manager Lisa was a gem. Time will tell whether she really does anything about this. In the meantime I am reporting it everywhere I can.

While I appreciate the breeze, and enjoy reading the local news sports etc; I fine that, I must call three or four times every month for a paper they forgot to delivery. Every month for the past two years.

I love the Daily Breeze and really appreciate having a local paper that addresses topics of interest to the South Bay.

Canceled ! Poor Service, not the paper I grew up with. Good Riddance

I would have to agree with the other reviewers. Service is poor and their website to find out about your account doesn’t give the proper information.

These words are totally apt for our local (Torrance, CA) newspaper, The Daily Breeze. I remember as a kid, biking by their old office on Torrance Blvd. I believed that paper was a respected institution then. An unbiased publication that represented diverse local opinions, with staff writers of the utmost integrity, and an invested interest in our community. WRONG! As I said, i was just a kid, then.
No, The Daily Breeze now (in their much-​downsized new location) merely serves as a self-​congratulatory rag for the revolving City Officials in the South Bay area (of which Torrance is a part). Numerous times over the years, I’ve read articles about policy changes and improvements which simply did NOT happen. Numerous times I’ve written and have never seen them respond in any way. I, like many Torrance residents have current concerns which are simply not ever addressed in the Breeze. They continue to promote a totally false «Mayberry RFD/​Charming Small Town» view of Torrance, with poorly-​written filler pieces. After some research, it turns out The Daily Breeze, as with most newspapers left, is owned by NWO/​Rockefeller cronies with their New World Order agenda. You’ll read only what they want you to read, and folks, that isn’t the whole picture.
I have really bigger fish to fry than the Breeze, but when I called to ask a simple question to a man named «Frank» at their news desk today, & was greeted with such rudeness and hostility — i decided it was time for a Unilocal review. Even on the phone they’re simply nasty to local residents?! To hell with that!
My family cancelled their subscription long ago, which I recommend doing. Anyone who needs to see we’ve lost our «Freedom of the Press,» need look no further than the Daily Breeze. Enjoy the review, Frank.

If I could give zero stars I would. Sales people have been begging us to take the paper again. I asked my wife not to take the Breeze again, but the fast talker convinced her to try again. It took almost a month to start and a week to cancel it again.(big surprise bad delivery service or no paper at all). Just a case you think I have it out for the Breeze, my mother-​in-​law also got called at her home. She also got the fast talking sales person, who also convinced her to take the paper again. Guess what that was October 2014, and she hasn’t received (1) paper yet !!!
You know what did arrive a bill for around $ 40.00 today December 19, 2014.
They said that they did not believe it and told us to fax them proof of the error.
The Daily breeze was a decent newspaper at one time, even with it’s day old
front page news. I fear the end is near just like the Examiner which I delivered in the 60’s on my bike. RIP Daily Breeze

I love The Daily Breeze newspaper. It covers the local community, events and activities. The Sunday paper always has lots of coupons and discounts and expanded coverage of the news. I like the Monday morning quiz of the previous weeks news. I like the hometown feel to the paper. Call me old school, but l love bring able to read something printed. lf you want a paper, you have to support it. They got a Pultzer for local coverage. Yes, that’s how good they are.

I do not enjoy the content of the daily breeze. The stories do not always strike me as newsworthy. Recently for example, a front page above-​the-​fold headline was a small matter about how a public servant had a water bill that was higher than average even though there’s a drought going on. I’ll agree we should hold government employees to a higher standard, but was this really front page material? The fact that a bureaucrat has a nice lawn and a few flower beds?
When it comes to delivery, my experience has been better than most. No billing issues, and the delivery person has ensured a front-​door delivery for us. Thank you very much.
Now if only the content wasn’t quite so on the level of making it fit for bird-​cage liner.

Completely Dissatisfied

For content the Daily Breeze is average. It fills the gap in local coverage between the LA Times, which does not cover the South Bay, and the Beach Reporter and Easy Reader, which cover very local issues once a week.
For service the Daily Breeze is terrible as almost every other review here testifies. We had a small gap in renewing our paper and instead of being contacted were simply referred to a collection agency. Contacting subscriber services at the Daily Breeze was useless.
Overall: Stay away. The modest quality and usefulness of this paper not worth the headache you will eventually run into with their customer service.

Now these a-​holes have «SoCal Newspapers» calling you about your subscription payment, even if it ISN’T LATE in the first place! Guess what guys, I blocked your number!

My story is pretty much similar to many reviews written for Daily Breeze. A high school student came to our house selling subscriptions for a fundraiser. This boy was a senior about to graduate in a few weeks and was absolutely excited about starting college. His enthusiasm for life and his future truly inspired me. Who wouldn’t want to support him and his fundraiser? So I signed up for the Sundays Only subscription for one month because it only cost $ 4.50 and even though I don’t read the newspaper, I like to look through ads.
About a month later, I noticed we started receiving the Daily Breeze every Thursday — Sunday. According to my financial statements, they have yet to charge me for deliveries so I make the call to 1−877−469−6133 to nip this directly in the bud. I speak with Isabel from circulation who informs me that I have been registered for a Thurs-​Sun subscription despite the fact that the receipt given to me by the high schooler clearly says he signed me up for Sundays only for one month. So Isabel changes my order for Sundays only but forces me into two months. When I tell her I only want one month, she says that there is a two month minimum for Sundays only. Whatever, I guess it’s only $ 9 total. She also offers to enter an ‘end subscription’ date in their system so I will stop receiving the paper after two months.
Over two months pass and I notice that my financial account has been billed for a third month. BTW, the price goes up to $ 8.99 in the third month. So I call circulation again and speak with Marianna who tells me that a Sundays only subscription requires a three month commitment. She tells me this despite the fact that two months prior, Isabel from circulation already entered my ‘end date’ for two months. When Marianna asks me if the three month commitment is explained on my receipt, I tell her no. Then I went into this rant about how I don’t even read the Daily Breeze and I just wanted to support the sweet young high schooler who was fundraising for school and I DON’T WANT THE DAILY BREEZE!!! She let me rant for a good 90 seconds before she said that she will refund my money for the third month.
Two weeks later, I received my refund.
Pretty shady for a publication to trick you into subscriptions and then change the rules on you once you’re in. At least I’m grateful that they remedied my complaints easier than I expected. But I really shouldn’t be given reasons to complain in the first place. I feel sorry for any student that involves themselves in a fundraiser with Daily Breeze oblivious to how they operate. Growing up in Torrance, I never thought twice about this local newspaper. Moving forward, I will strongly advocate that NO ONE signs up for a subscription.

I started subscription for helping one students who needed get subscriber for getting money for her college. I was subscribing sunday newspaper. I only got one time and after that i havent got newspaper over 3 months. I really didnt care but I started feeling $ 5 a month really doesnt worth anything at all.
I called them to stop subscription and mentioned about i never got a newspaper except one. They said they delivered the newspaper. I don’t care anymore so i just canceled the subscription.
I hope they really did canceled it. I am a little bit scared because i read other review…

The Daily Breeze, after the demise of the San Pedro Pilot some years ago, remains the only commercial daily for the South Bay. The upside is that it does cover some local issues, and is often the only source. The downside is that it tries to be everything to everybody, and as a result does nothing well. In my view it should cut out its own condensed versions of national news and stick to the local.
The editorial view of this paper is over there on the right, at times in the «fascist pig» category. So skip the editorial page, and even the op-​ed page, if you want to avoid having your blood boil.
A daily columnist, Tom Bogert, is a gem and the only reason I continue to subscribe to this rag. I do not know how he does it every day, but he is always worth reading — and not lined up with the editors’ political views.
