Magellan Storage

I am confused, I just moved my stuff to storage at Magellan Storage in Torrance. Now I can’t get a hold of anyone to pay my monthly bill. Did it close?

Very sneaky business practices. Three big drawbacks that led to this poor review. 1. I was told over the phone I would be charged $ 41 per month, and when I showed up to sign the paper work with my stuff to be placed in storage they told me there would also be an added insurance fee of $ 8 a month. I found this to be shady since they didn’t offer this information over the phone. The weekend manager told me they were supposed to let me know over the phone and apologized but did not remedy the situation in any way.
2. Signing up I was told I would receive half off my first month of storage. When I received my first invoice it was clear they only applied the ½ discount to the last 8 days of a month since I signed on the 22^nd. They told me that it counted as my first month. The manager told me that the person who signed me up should have ezplained it clearly and apologized, but did not offer to correct the mistake. Another shady practice.
3. I decided I didn’t want the unit any longer but was told over the phone that my 10 notice had to be in person or certified mail with a receipt. Why make it so difficult? Shady
Nice facility but don’t judge a book by its cover…
The world is to small for such business practices and I am sure I am not the only one to have had such experiences. Just be careful and know what the real price is you are getting with this company.

My agency has been storing files here for the past 10+ years in different locker sizes and locations in the facility – Here are the positives and negatives:
Positives:
–Good Neighborhood in Torrance.
–Convenient Location on the Torrance/​Redondo border.
–Easy Covered Parking for Unloading.
–Adequate Carts (Carts Available Only when office is open.)
–Less expensive than Santa Monica/​West Los Angeles storage facilities (More expensive than other Torrance facilities, more expensive than Long Beach, Inland Empire, Valley etc.)
–Restroom (Only when office is open.)
–They sell supplies. (Only when office is open.)
–Long access hours.
Negatives:
–They have a Leaky Roof Problem on the second floor going on more than 3+ years without repair. At various locations in the facility you will see buckets on the corridors to catch the water during rain. I even helped a woman one-​time redirect water coming down pretty strong so it would not enter a storage locker. Not sure why they are not fixing this? Other than it’s expensive. Don’t know if any lockers have been flooded? You should ask before renting.
–They review all account for Rent Increases Every 9 Months. We store in facilities back East also, and it’s usually 2-​year guarantee on rent not going up, and they don’t usually raise it if you have a good paying history to keep you as a customer. Here you are subject to raises every 9 months regardless.
–Carts are not available for your use unless the office is open for business. If you like to come after 6 PM M to F, or after 5 PM on Sat, or after 3 PM on Sunday, you will not be able to use a cart to move your stuff.
–While they have very generous access hours of 5 AM to 12 PM, it is these extended hours that sometimes attracts renters who are suspicious types. I have not had any serious trouble with them, but it can be annoying and unsettling having them there. I had a homeless guy near me that used the locker to store his smelly cans and bottles – he was there constantly, and a couple that was sleeping in a 10×10. Management watches, knows who these people are, tenants complain – had them all evicted, but it did not happen overnight – it’s a process.
–Like an apartment complex, you get some tenants that leave garbage, grease, and sometimes food in the corridors and abandoned lockers. It does not get cleaned up right away – you may have to clean it yourself. I keep a broom with our files and sweep occasionally so it does not get into our business.
–Someone once came into the office while I was there (and I am rarely in the office) and asked about seeing their surveillance video for the outside RV section saying someone tried to commit a burglary. The employee on duty was indifferent to his request and told him it was not their job, and to come back in 2 days and see someone else. This was disheartening because it seemed like a serious issue that should be handled immediately.
Neutral:
–Insurance is mandatory and starts at $ 8.00 a month unless you have other coverage you can prove.
–If you are storing here – you need to make sure that you are on top of your monthly payments or you could lose your stuff. They will put a lock on your locker if rent is not paid within 10 days of the 1^st of the month. After 30 days of non-​payment, your lock will be cut and it will be set for auction the following month. They are aggressive about enforcing this here.
–You can move to another locker or another size locker easily, but may be subject to an administrative fee for doing so.
–If you move out before the month is up – You Will Not receive a refund for unused days so plan accordingly.
–If bulbs are out or something needs repair, you must report it – don’t expect it to be noticed automatically.

very secure lots of cameras well lit. Friendly service very affordable. They offer a military discount. This is the best storage in town. They also have a truck you can use for FREE! Management is great really worked for me!

Jenifer Stout at the front desk was the most helpful person I’ve come across in a long time. She was so professional and knowledgeable. Very impressed. The facility seems secure and clean. I like that each unit has an alarm.

Everything there is very clean, including the restrooms for customers. The complimentary coffee/​tea they provide is premium quality. They explain everything clearly in both verbal and written and notify you everything clearly by e-​mail in timely manners. There are no unreasonable or hidden fees. Great customer service. The guy in front desk (Ken?) communicates with customers in very friendly manners. Their $ 1 first month move-​in special deal is the best of all. Highly recommended.

There hours say they open at 9am on Saturdays it is now 9:15 we are waiting outside they are still not open. Bad for business to open late.

This is an awesome storage place! They have examples of the units right there in the lobby. It’s clean, upscale, and they really roll out the red carpet for you. Ken is the best! They also loan you a free truck for moving. Unheard of! I feel comfortable with my stuff there and everyone is so very nice. Thumbs up!

I had been with this Magellan storage facility for more than ten years. I am very satisfied with how the whole complex is kept clean, secure and the overall response I get in regards to requests related to storage facility services. Through the years, I have seen how Magellan have exerted efforts to be responsive to their customers’ needs & even some extra perks for being a customer of them. In my years of being with Magellan, I had noticed there were different people who managed the facility. The one constant though who has consistently been helpful, customer-​oriented and friendly is Ken. I am cool with Magellan and Ken helps make being with this storage facility more satisfactory.

Very clean. The people are very friendly and helpfully, especially Ken. He has great attitude and always so willing to help and has a smile on his face.

I have had a unit or two here for 8 years and have always been happy. Ken is the nicest guy you could ever meet. We chose this climate controlled facility as we had a lot of nice furniture in storage as well as photography gear. The grounds and interior are well lit, extremely clean and welcoming. Magellan also offers a moving truck, and they have moving supplies for sale as needed. Good people all around.

I used this storage facility before and was pleased, so in moving from Northern California back to the South Bay I chose to use them again.
I reserved a 10″ x 10″ unit with a credit card.
On the day we moved my Northern California moving crew and I came to Magellan at 10:45 on a Monday and no one was there. A note on the door said they would be back at 12:00. I called and was transferred to several people. No one was able to reach anyone to help me and said someone should be there.
I was in tears, here I had a crew that needed to unload and get on the road to Northern California and no way to get into the unit. We waited for a call back and didn’t receive one. One of the crew looked up other storage facilities in the area and found SOS who were wonderful.
I never have received a call back, or a response to my email. I even stopped by to request my refund and was told they don’t give refunds.
The worst customer service I’ve received, they must have changed management.

Magellan was recommended to me by a friend. I moved from Canada to Torrance earlier this year. Before my move, I communicated with them by phone and e-​mail. They answered all my questions and provided me with all the information I needed. When the day to move in finally arrived, it was easy and painless.
The Torrance location is very clean and safe. Magellan is more expensive than other facilities in the area, but well worth it.

I like this storage. It’s clean, stuffs are nice and good facilities.
I would like to recommend to people.

Initially my unit was for my use but it was, so nice that my husband moved right in & ultimately got another unit for his use alone. So now we have two. They are always clean & I feel very safe while I’m there. I would give them 5 full stars but the lights are on timers & it’s annoying to be in my unit & have the lights go completely off. I guess that keeps the fees reasonable & I’m able to take a flashlight so I won’t complain. But if they fixed that I’d be happy to give them the 5 stars.

NOT THE CHEAPEST BUT THE BEST.
I had a several spaces at Magellan for quite a few years. This is a top of the line storage facility and in regard to the things I was looking for, it rated very high:
1. Security –It is highly secure, locking entry doors and a coded guard gate. No weird people wandering around.
2.Staff– Well staff by professionals who seem to be properly trained and have an intrinsic knowledge of the facility. Eager to please and courteous. As an example, I needed their truck on weekday and on short notice they loaned it to me free of charge and this was to move OUT.
3.Cleanliness –They have a full time person to keep the place clean. The place is spotless.
So if you have junk that you will eventually throw out, then you do not need this facility. But if you have valuables that you plan on keeping until you can find a place for them, then this is the place.
They also have a highly air conditioned section for valuables that need a temperature controlled environment.
Take advantage of their promos, although they are not the cheapest, they constantly have move in specials and the truck loan so at the end of the day, you come out ahead anyway.

I don’t have a storage locker here, so I can’t comment on that. But, I’ve come here a handful of times over the years to pick up moving supplies. They sell boxes, bed bags, tape, etc., all of which is really cheap. They are always open when I drive by and the employees are friendly.
