This review is long overdue. I have been seeing Dr. Mayeda for three years and I love his service and the practice overall. For the past two years I have just needed an eye exam and a contact prescription and I was on my way for the next year. That process has always been easy and seamless.
This year, I had an eye swelling issue right about the time I was due for my annual exam. Perfect timing! Long story short, turns out my eyes decided that after 10 years of wearing contacts they are allergic to contacts and won’t tolerate having a contact on them ever again. To reach that conclusion though, Dr. Mayeda saw me three times to rule out any other possibilities. I was only charged on my first visit since each additional visit was a follow up. I greatly appreciated that!
The staff put a rush order on my glasses at no additional charge since I didn’t have backup glasses and my eyes rejected contacts. The glasses arrived in less than a week! Everyone that works here is helpful and understanding. They squeezed me in for each of those follow up visits due to the severity of my situation.

I have been a patient of Dr. Michael Mayeda for over 25 years since he was practicing with Dr. Chad’s father in the Hawthorne Mall. I have continued to see Dr. Mayeda at North Torrance Optometry over the years despite moving farther away each time. Now I live in the San Gabriel Valley with a wife and daughter who are also happy patients of this office. If you are looking for honest, experienced eye care professionals with great support staff, this is the place!

I bumped into this place by accident. From the moment I came in, I felt welcomed. I needed to have an eye exam right away and so last minute because I needed contacts, my prescription had expired at lens crafters and they wouldn’t see me in that moment so I had to schedule till after my meeting (which was inconvenient for me). Mind you, I didn’t have an appointment and had one hour to spare due to a meeting I had pending. Luckily their scheduled appointment didn’t show up, they were able to see me right away. Dr. Mayeda was warm and fast knowing I didn’t have much time to spare. I am very grateful to them for accommodating me. Total cost was $ 200. It includes eye exam, contact fitting, week supply of disposable contacts and an observation of the retina (my eyes were dilated on my return visit). The front desk was professional and called my insurance to find out if my insurance covered the eye exam. I am happy to be a new patient.

Great professional staff who take good care of their patients. Have been coming here for years and am happy to support local businesses owners like Dr. Shimazaki. He’s patient and personable, and it’s a pleasure to have him as my optometrist.

If you’re looking for an optometry office, look no further. This office is great for the whole family. I’ve been coming to NTO for years and always receive the highest level of service. The office staff is professional and extremely courteous. Dr. Chad is the BEST. He makes you feel comfortable and explains what he’s doing/​looking at during the exam. You won’t go anywhere else after a visit to NTO!

I have been a patient here for almost one year. At every appointment, the entire team has been excellent in helping me with all my eye care needs.
Dr. Chad has been my primary eye doctor since my first appointment in 2014. I had been curious about Lasik for a while. He was the one who gave me more information and referred me to Dr. Lusby at the Torrance NVision center. Thanks to Dr. Chad and the rest of the North Torrance Optometry team and the NVision team, I have successfully gone through the surgery and the follow up checkups.
Dr. Chad has gone above and beyond service in taking care of my eyes. In fact, the entire team has OUTSTANDING SERVICE.
I’d also like to add that NTO has a great array of frame and fits. I finally bought some nice TC Charton Asian fit frames to replace my old Jonathan Paul fitovers from when I had glasses. The ordering and payment process was easy and organized. During ordering, they always informed me of options and how much each would cost, so I was never in the dark about anything.
I’d also like to give a shout out to Stephanie. She was the team member who helped me find the perfect frames for my face. She has a keen eye for detail and fashion.

I came to Dr. Chad Shimazaki for a second opinion on my prescription that was prescribed at another office which I was highly unsatisfied with and I must say Dr. Chad did a great job!
Dr. Chad and along with his entire staff were all very nice and courteous.
When I came to pick up my glasses, Miya helped me out and she was very helpful and fun to talk to. She adjusted my frames to perfection! It feels really comfortable when I wear them now. I also got the glare free by Crizal for my glasses and it comes with a mail in rebate of $ 10. Miya had all the papers for the rebate ready and marked for me before I came in.
Thank you guys for all the help! I will be coming back for my annual eye exam from now on.

Great Place, great selection, Great Customer Service! Only con is of course they jack up the price of the frames just like every other place, however definitely recommend them!

Very nice place, they have a wide selection of frames and they are a VSP Provider. The staff is friendly and spend as much time as needed to make sure you get the type of glasses & frames you want. Michael is really great, extremely helpful, professional and patient. I highly recommend North Torrance Optometry.

I came in for a Saturday morning appointment. Everyone was so nice and friendly from the moment I walked in. While I was waiting, Stephanie asked if I wanted to come in the back and look over frames, upon which I proceeded to ask her opinion on so many options. She was so helpful and patient and helped me pick out a perfect pair of frames and even talked with me about different lenses and the gradients. As for the eye exam itself, Dr. Mayeda was so nice and explained each of the tests to me and the purpose as to why he was doing them so I felt very comfortable and informed. He noticed that my current glasses weren’t fitting me right so asked Stephanie to fix then for me after my exam. Everyone was so nice and friendly. I’m so glad I found them!

I have been a patient since 1984; I have always had good experiences with the doctors and staff. My husband and children are patients; we always receive the best care and service. I would recommend Dr. Mayeda and Dr. Shimazaki to anyone that needs an optometrist.

My visits to Dr. Chad are always wonderful. He’s warm and professional during examinations. My kids enjoy their visits with no complaints. Their staff is friendly and has the most fashionable selection of frames.
If you are in the So Bay I highly recommend making an appointment with Dr. Chad.

When hiring a professional, whether legal, medical, etc., it is difficult to assess and cross-​reference the actual quality of the service provided; afterall, professionals are entitled to exercise professional judgment in delivering the services to you. And in the end, if you get the results you want (e.g. I can see clearly again), does it matter who you choose?
So what’s one factor that can help differentiate one professional or office from another? Staff customer service.
I went here to order both glasses and contacts. Stephanie was very helpful and informative when explaining my purchase/​bills, tracking my orders, and even following up when there was a manufacturing delay. Quality customer service goes a long way in retaining longterm patients.

Took my 6 year old and 10 year old for eye exams. The staff was very friendly and patient! Chad is awesome with kids :-) I highly recommend North Torrance Optometry! Awesome staff and good prices :-)

Dr. Shimazaki and his staff are fantastic. The entire staff provided friendly service and were very helpful. I particularly liked the cleanliness of the process as they were always wiping and cleaning the surfaces my face and hands would be touching. I also appreciated the timely manner in which i was seen and examined… that in particular is something that bothers me when going to the doctor/​dentist etc. I always seem to be waiting forever beyond my appointment.
Dr Shimazaki was very helpful and thorough. You can see that he cares about his patients and wants his patients to be comfortable and well informed.

I’ve worn contact lenses and glasses for over 40 years. I’ve also had issues with torn retina. I enjoy reading so being able to see close up as well as in the distance without wearing glasses on top of my contact lenses is very important to me. Dr. Chad Shimazaki came up with a solution with a different brand of conact lenses that do not require me to use distance glasses for driving or glasses for computer use WITH my contact lenses. I have freed up about $ 400 by not having to buy two other pairs of glasses. Woo hoo!
The icing on the cake are the front and back office assistants. All are friendly and seem to take pride in their work. Professional service is one thing but geniune interest in your eye care — whether it being picking glasses to compliment your features or adjusting your glasses to make sure they do not pinch the back of your ear — is something that you cannot put a value.

This is like my 3^rd or 4^th contact lens fitting (overall, first time here) and I think it is wonderful that right off the bat they were able to pick a good fitting contact lens. My previous lenses were either breathable and loose such that they’d stick to my eyelids and travel all over the place… or they’d be really not breathable and heavy and cumbersome and fit too tight and REALLY stick to my eyeballs (when the Kaiser people tried to overcompensate for the eyelid thing). Yay for breathable and not sticky lenses!
