The Orthopaedic Institute is home to nationally recognized orthopaedic surgeons who combine technical expertise with genuine personal concern for our patients. Orthopaedists at St. Joseph have pioneered spinal and cervical disc replacement surgery, helped design new hip prostheses, and developed new implant and surgical techniques for knee replacement surgery. Our Orthopaedic Spinal Research Laboratory attracts doctors from around the world.

Many of our orthopaedic nurses both in the operating rooms and on the inpatient unit have more than 20 years of experience and are certified in their fields. Our skilled physical and occupational therapists have advanced training; they begin working with patients the day of surgery to relieve discomfort, rebuild strength, and promote a faster recovery.

Our programs, physicians, and nursing staff have received recognition for outstanding quality and innovation, including U.S. News and World Report’s Best Orthopaedic Hospital, Baltimore magazine’s «Top Docs,» The Daily Record Healthcare Heroes Award for Advancements in Healthcare, and The Daily Record Healthcare Heroes Award for Nursing.
