The food is good but the service is soooooo ssslllooooww. I made the mistake the first time of coming in to place an order to go and was told it will take«20 minutes» for it to be ready. I didn’t keep track of the time but it sure felt longer than 20 minutes. Today I called my order in and they said«20 minutes» again so I showed up at the restaurant after 20 minutes and I ended up waiting another 24 minutes for my food. That’s 44 minutes for 3 orders. When I asked why it took longer the server said he will go ask and instead of the manager coming out to apologize, the server just came back saying«it’s because the kabobs were cooking». Wouldn’t they know how long the kabobs take to cook when I placed my order? Had they told me come in 40 minutes I wouldn’t have came in 20. Also, the prices are way too high for Tracy. The place is always empty for a reason! Change things up guys! I gave them a 2nd chance but I will not be coming back here.

Definitely going back! We went in at approximately 4:20 pm on a Saturday. There was a family of four dining, other than that it was deserted. We were seated immediately by a friendly woman who seemed genuinely happy we were there. This alone is extremely rare! The food was delicious. We have been to the Livermore location several times. I like this location better. The staff is more friendly and the ambiance of the interior is more classy and less claustrophobic. Try the Afghan brown rice it’s delicious! I had the combo kabob which is usually beef tri tip and chicken. I paid $ 2 more and ordered tri tip and lamb. Both were flavorful and moist. He ordered the lamb shank. It was tasty and moist I give my review 4 stars because it was a little bland. It tasted good don’t get me wrong, I just feel it could have had more flavor.

I LOVETHISPLACE! The food and service is amazing! My personal favorite it the chicken and beef combo plate but there is definitely something for everyone to love. The care, detail and precision that is put into the ambience as well as the food does not go unnoticed. This place is a true gem!

Finally a good quality restaurant in Tracy! Love everything here, it’s so so soooo delicious! Love the Bolani, Kabobs, chapli — you can tell the quality of the meat is top notch. Really spacious too, perfect for families or large groups.

What a beautiful location! So happy the owners have expanded yet again! Will come back again and tell my friends to come here! Service: the service was wonderful. Very attentive and friendly. Owners even greet you and make you feel so welcome! Atmosphere: absolutely beautiful! Walls are decorated with hand crafted paintings from local artist, adding a very authentic cultural touch! Spacious and lots of room. Food: nothing short of amazing! My favorites were the beef kabobs(the beef is perfectly cooked!), mantu, Chicken kabobs(perfectly seasoned!), Bolani bread(such generous portions) and of course, the Rosemary ice cream w pistachios!(Can’t leave without having!) Biggest tip: **make sure you arrive hungry!

I really wanted to like this place. I enjoy eating Afghan food especially with all the options here in Tracy and the bay area. De Afghanan has a good rep amongst my family. We enjoy eating at the one in Fremont and Livermore. We were naturally excited to see it come to Tracy, even though there are several other Afghan restaurants in the area. It was fairly empty when we walked into the restaurant, but it still took some time for someone to come and help us. The server that a few people have mentioned in this review is the same one who served us. He didn’t have much energy and appeared uninterested in what he was doing. We ordered our usuals(bolani, chapli, qabali) that we do from De Afghanan. The food was more expensive than the other De Afghanans and any of the other Afghan restaurants in Tracy. We figured that if the food was good, it may justify the high price. Unfortunately, it didn’t. My family all agreed, that the food lacked any flavor and didn’t taste the same. The food tasted under seasoned and the bolani was very hard and dry. There are better options in Tracy(Maaza, Azhar) to get Afghan food from. Even if you’re a fan of De Afghanan, I would probably avoid this place until they figure out their issues.

Went in today with my family for some food being the first time we are trying this place in Tracy. I’ve tried the others in fremont and Livermore and they are decent but this one just plain sucks. We get seated by a young man who just seems«dead». We order our food which took at least an hour to come out. I ordered the bodinjon borani appetizer and it never came. I asked him twice if he got the order and he said yes but apparently he didn’t. We ordered out food and thirty minutes later, two people show up and still get their food before ours. Ours came 30 minutes after theirs for some reason. I asked the boy for bread and he never brought it. Food is way overpriced for the portions they give. Why can’t we get any decent afghan restaurants in Tracy?

If zero star was an option I would actually given them 0. Went out for dinner with whole family and customer service sucked. Walked into the restaurant and it was empty And they said they have 60 minutes wait time. When we finally got seated waiter sucked. We order our food chicken kabobs with white rice and some potato dish x3. Server came back and said we can only get one since they are out of dough and potatoes. Few minutes later he brings us water and we had to wait for glasses and straws. Server brought chicken kabobs out with brown rice. When we asked that we ordered white rice he said oh you ordered it wrong. Ask to see his order sheet and it shows white rice, then he said oh we are out of white rice. We simply said we don’t want the food if you can’t get it correct. Please take the food back and bring our bill for correct items. Server went back and brings a wrong bill. After reviewing the bill they charged us for food that we didn’t even ordered. Server started talking to us in loud voice. We ended up cancelling our order and paid for what we ate. Not once they apologize or anything. Very disappointed. Waiter wanted to pick a fight. Serve and service sucks! Never going back again

I was very excited that De Afghanan came to Tracy but this place isn’t quite Fremont. The service is horrible. They two young men seem to be «trying» but they’re not trying hard enough. The owners really need to consider an addition serviced or two. I never got a refill. Anytime I needed something I had to wave my hand or shout excuse me to get their attention. On a Saturday at 5:00 they ran out of dough for their bolani. They’re refrigerator was broken so they didn’t have ice cream. We waited over an hour for our food and we didn’t order appetizers. This wasn’t helpful with two toddlers. I will give this place one more chance. Maybe during the week.

So… Our experience was nuts. Let me first say I’ve been to all 3 locations; Fremont, Livermore, and now Tracy. I’ve also been to other afghani places in all three of the above mentioned areas. So, I can say that the meat(that I did have) was amazing, a little salty, but tender and well flavored. The food is good. It’s not great afghan food, which is sad because ALL afghani food should be great ALL the time. The Bolani lacked some spice, it was a little firmer than I’m used to. I ordered the sabzi challow, I specified that I wanted lamb. It came out vegetarian… The main problem was the SERVICE!!! I got to a point where all I could do was laugh. I’m sure the young man is a nice boy. However; he was slow, tried to blame me for messing up my order, brought the appetizer at the same time as the meal, he didn’t get the kids food out early like I asked. For the record I only ordered rice and bread for the babies, come on! I gave that young man basic, simple instructions and he left me hanging. When he brought my sabzi and I asked where my lamb was he blamed me, then when I said I need it see how long it will take, ask the cook. He went into the kitchen and when he did finally come back out, he just started cleaning??? Didn’t respond. So, I yelled across the restaurant, I’m a mom it happens lol. His solution was«take two pieces of my husband’s extra side» of meat(which he ordered) and he won’t change me. I replied«that is the most ghetto, ridiculous solution I’ve ever heard, but I’ll take it at this point.» I was spent. It took near 2 hours from the time we walked into the restaurant, until the time we left. With toddlers that’s an epic event. Honestly, I’d eat here again. I’d talk to the same waiter slowly and be annoyingly specific, but I have to be honest, we got there around 4:25, not the best time for the ultimate dining experience. The dinner rush may be better? More servers, exciting flow, more tip oriented… We’re really good tippers, this awkward young man still got a tip for being slow as molasses and rude, it just wasn’t fat. I don’t think the boy was ill willed, just disinterested in his job. He was on his phone often. Yup, the thin light skinned awkward boy had his phone in hand and stood around looking confused most of the time. This is just in case management/ownership wants to know how business is going … The boy just needs training and consequences. If you wanna get seasoned you gotta get grilled a time or two… Try the place if you have the time to kill. It’s good, just needs to develop more, especially since theirs a damn good afghani spot SUPERCLOSE!

I did a lot of the work at this restaurant and first tried the food in Livermore location. This place is awesome as well. Aziz the owner is an awesome person and a great cook. Food is on point and love the kabobs. Hope they do well in town. Some of these negative reviews are plain stupid. Go try the food and you’ll love it! I typically get the combination(chicken and beef) with brown rice. Best lunch you can have in my opinion. Great service and all the employees are friendly!

Please keep in mind I’m comparing it to the Fremont location, which in my opinion is one of the best in the bay area. I give them credit for allowing me to make changes to their menu with no fuss whatsoever. I ordered a combo and substituted the Teka for Chaplee with Chicken kabab. Brown rice, garbanzo E potato salad. The flavor and seasoning of the food was on point, but the portions were a little on the skimped side.(not enough of an issue to deduct a star because in my opinion quality and flavor trumps portion size any day) The location is modern and spacious,(The old«Firkin and Beaver» bar) very clean, and the staff was very friendly.

We had gone there on Tuesday and I had ordered the Tika Kabob and my sister and sister in law ordered the combo plate(chicken and Tika).well let’s start by saying the rice looked like someone had chewed it and no flavor. The chicken had this nasty odor and it was kind of chewy. We had the waiter come and told him about the chicken and wanted him to smell it, but he wouldn’t, so I took a piece of it and put it by his noise and smell it. He tells us that’s the marinate. She had ONLY ate 1 piece of the Tika. We asked them for refund that order but they were like we can take $ 3 off and that’s it. So we threw the $ 60 on the table and walked out. My sister was very upset so she called and talked the owner. He was like our food doesn’t smell. That there is something wrong with us. He was like bring someone and I cook for them and if they say my food smells, I will close my Restuarant and get out of Tracy… lol. We were like 3 people just told u that the food had an odor. We will NEVER go back here again. We never had good service in their Livermore store with Burnt Chapli Kabob and the nasty smelly meat here.

Uurgh, I really wanted to love this location but I’m just really not feeling it as yet. Ok, so it is a little unfair to compare it to other locations but it IS the same restaurant with the same menu so I have no idea why it just doesn’t compare to Livermore. It’s been open over a week now and for some reason when I last visited they still hadn’t got around to putting table cloths on all of the tables. It looks messy and unfinished. That aside both my Husband and I were less than impressed with Dinner this past Saturday. With a total of 4 tables the staff seemed scattered. — Other Diners got their Potato Salad immediately. We didn’t — Food took almost an hour. We later found out that it was due the Chef being asleep. On a Saturday night no less. I have no words… — My order was incomplete and missing the Carrots and Raisins from my Rice. — Chapli had no spice and was really greasy. — My Husbands Lamb tasted. well. kinda funky. Being charged an extra $ 4 to have it instead of Chapli you would expect it to be amazing but really wasn’t and just 3 small chunks. — Bread also had a «soap — like» aftertaste like it had been kneaded on a surface not wiped down properly after sanitizing. The restaurant has great potential and has lot’s of seating so I guess I’ll just wait and see if the other aspects of it improve.
