History

Established in 2008.

Jim Milligan is the co-founder and owner of Fustini’s Oils & Vinegars. Fustini’s offers retail customers a wide variety of extra virgin olive oils and balsamic vinegars, sourced from around the world, in four Michigan locations (Traverse City, Petoskey, Holland and Ann Arbor).

The opportunity to get into the gourmet food business opened up in late 2007. Jim retired from his corporate career at 3M, and he and co-founder Lane, empty nested, sold their home in MN and embarked on a journey to fulfill a dream they had harbored for nearly twenty years; to live in Traverse City and pursue the olive oil and vinegar tasting room concept that Jim had seen so much of in Europe during his corporate travels. The first store opened May 2008, followed by Petoskey in 2009 with the Holland and Ann Arbor stores opening in 2010. In 2014 the 4 Michigan stores expanded to include kitchens for cooking classes with Fustini’s Executive Chef. A 5th location in Maui, Hawaii opened in the summer of 2014.

Meet the Business Owner

Jim M.

Business Owner

Jim Milligan, founder of Fustini’s, was so intrigued by and enamored with the oil and vinegar stores he saw while traveling in Europe, he wanted to bring the concept Stateside. After a long career in international business at 3M and Imation Corporation, he created Fustini’s Oils & Vinegars – the name a playful homage to his Italian inspiration.

The original store in Traverse City flourished from the start. As it turned out, a healthy and nutritious product, presented beautifully, with a commitment to artisanal craft and supported by unwavering customer service, was bound to be a success. Jim opened new stores in three additional Michigan locations – Petoskey, Holland and Ann Arbor – within the next three years. And as of the fall of 2014, he’s taken the concept half way across another ocean; this time, opening his first location outside the 48 states, with a store on Maui.

For all these efforts, Jim has been recognized as a Top Ten ‘Boomer-Preneur’ by Money Magazine and CNNMoney.com.
