At Paul Mitchell Schools, we believe the learning process should be fun and everyone’s education should be special. That’s why we base our courses and teaching methods on multiple intelligence, the learning research pioneered by Howard Gardner at Harvard University.
The theory of multiple intelligence takes into account the unique talents and ways of knowing that we each possess. There are seven different intelligences, or ways that people process information. Most schools and traditional learning deal only with verbal linguistic (reading and writing) but we all have other intelligence: multiple intelligences. It is exciting and rewarding to identify our other natural intelligences, such as musical, math logical, body kinesthetic, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and spatial intelligence. Unlike standard achievement tests that look at what we know, multiple intelligence looks at how we know. It starts with an assessment index that identifies each Future Professional’s unique stregths.

The Lab is located in the heart of central New Jersey, just minutes outside Princeton and midway between Philadelphia and New York City. Surrounded by institutes of higher learning and cultural attractions, the area offers our Future Professionals a host of exciting activities outside the classroom. The Lab is proud to be associated with our sister company, La Jolie, which is recognized as one of the première salons in New Jersey. La Jolie has been an established business in downtown Princeton for almost 50 years. Sasha Rash, The Lab’s owner, has run La Jolie for the past 10 years. Future Professionals who attend The Lab will be exposed to high-level professional salon industry leaders. Sasha is current President of The Salon Association (TSA), an international network of salon and spa owners. This provides us with the opportunity to bring in guest artists from around the world to share their knowledge and expertise with our Future Professionals.
