Oxyfit Gym

Keep this in mind when you are about ready to sign!
Numerous violations in the facility:

per an employee the staff is lucky if they get paid properly SO dont believe the signs of repairs going to be done and they are getting as many new clients as possible at this time and then will shut down and run off with your money SO BEWARE

I would stay away. Gym is filthy, locker room is disgusting and the owner is involved in white collar crime.

I’ve been a member at Oxyfit on and off since they opened their location in the old Eckerd’s in Macungie. At first I really enjoyed the gym, it was clean, bright and the equipment was brand new. They used to have the oxygen generators right next to the cardio equipment.
The new consolidated location in the old ²⁴⁄₇ located in Trexlertown is another story. Although they do have a great deal of equipment much of it is old (some do not work or are held together with duct tape) and the setup is haphazard. The men’s locker room is well below average and needs a major renovation. Some of the pictures posted by other Unilocal users provide an accurate depiction of their facility. I unfortunately locked into a contract before they closed the Macungie location; they wouldn’t let me get out of the contract even though they moved. I will be going to a different gym once my current contract expires.

I’ve been a member for many years. I’ve been working out for decades and have had memberships in probably a dozen gyms.
THE GOOD:
— Tons of equipment that’s in good condition
— Free hand towels. Few places do this.
— Relatively friendly staff
— Mature members
— Lots of treadmills and other cardio equipment
— Keys provided for their lockers
— Music isn’t blasting like in many gyms
— Large space so even when busy, there’s lots of room
— Reasonable rates
THE HORRENDOUS:
–The men’s bathroom is gross and the showers are downright DISGUSTING. (SEE photo.) You’d think the place was on the verge of bankruptcy looking at the showers and surrounding areas. How the owner can possibly feel good about this is beyond me. For God’s sake, buy some damned paint and clean up this ghetto. Fix the nasty peeling paint… Replace the defective paper towel dispensers… Clean the disgusting, corroded water fountains… Buy some air fresheners… Clean up this dump!
I noticed that they are painting the lobby area. I hope they plan to clean up the bathrooms. If they do, I will remove the nasty shower photo and update this review. I hope they respect their members and make these sorely needed improvements.
April 2 UPDATE: There’s a sign hanging up next to 2 shower stalls saying that they’re closed for painting. Sounds promising, but it’s been there for weeks with no work. (even prep) being done. I’m beginning to think that it’s there to give prospective members the impression that they’re in the process of cleaning things up so they’re not totally turned off. Not many guys shower there. What about all the other equally as nauseating looking shower stalls? One good note, I have seen more general cleaning activity in the main gym area. Now it’s time to clean up the incredibly vile men’ s shower stalls.

Their Macungie location closed with little notification and the old Trexlertown location is inconvenient for me and frankly not very clean. Their cancellation process was difficult, and even after filling out the form (in person and can only be done 30 days before), my credit card was still charged. If I have to go another 5 miles to get to a gym, I’ll go to Planet Fitness — its cheaper and cleaner.

I have never seen anything like it. I went in on Saturday morning at 9am to join this gym. I was a previous member and wanted to start up again. The person at the front desk said he could not help me as I needed to talk to a sales associate and they were not coming in for a few more hours. My wife is an active member and suggested I could be her guest until they arrived. Makes sense! Not at this place.
Would not let me use the facility unless I paid 15 dollars for a one day pass which he did not know if I would get reimbursed when I join.
Never seen anything like it. Was willing to join for a year on the spot and basically turned away.
Great business model

I just wanted to give any potential new members or existing members who may want to cancel their membership a heads up. Yesterday, I cancelled my contract, and was hit with a $ 298.00 cancellation fee. When you cancel, they charge you for 50% of the remaining balance of what you owe. As I stated in my previous reviews, I was a member of ²⁴⁄₇ since 2004 or 2005, and had cancelled my membership a couple of times for various reasons, and they only penalized for 1 month’s fee. I mistakenly assumed it was a similar policy at Oxyfit, and Dominic didn’t mention it to me when I signed up. SO, if you aren’t 100% sure about it, DON’T JOIN! Unless you have money to throw away. (I’m not blaming Oxyfit. They can have whatever policy they want. I just think that one that is so harsh should be highlighted, but I should have asked.)

It’s very dirty, old equipment. I have never seen anyone clean except for a duster which does nothing. I will be ending my membership asap

Changing your business model to one location ²⁴⁄₇ DOES NOT better cater to all of your clientele. Sadly I will not continue with your gym.

This is a power gym. (but)
The place is super hot and because of that it smells like a lion cage (sweat and butt smell mixed). The thermostat is set at 72 way too hot for a gym /​and no circulating fan running. They said «state of the art» upgrades are coming. Never happened — maybe the great 28″ tvs. What a joke my monitor is larger. CHEAP management over all and it show. Even before you enter the Oxyft sings are cheap and crappy. Inside everything is old and spent. The machines are breaking down a lot. The changing /​restrooms are far the worst. Did I mention old, smelly and worn down. Looks like the 70/80’s. The music is in line 80’s crappy rock. Terrible. They do have a lots of employees and they are friendly. To get in — sometime takes a while. Used to be a simple scan but now they are paranoid and someone takes your id and scan you in. Also the towels were on the counter and you just grabbed one, now someone has to give you one and mark your name on the list. Like I wanna take those old cheap towels. Overall thumbs way down. I really hope some other gym is coming to Macungie. Maybe MAXX
OxyFit just notified people they are closing Lower Macungie location and sends everyone to Trexlertown. Very bad business model. Trexlertown is very old, dark, smelly, nasty. Generally OxyFit never updated any of their equipment. OxyFit is managed as cheaply as possible saving on everything like air conditioning, cleaning etc. I would not recommend this business even to my enemies.

macungie location is closing. several existing clients are dissatisfied with their lack of regard for consumer relations. check out this deplorable video from oxy leadership. it’s insulting.

Oxyfit in Trexlertown is the new name and owner for what was the Trexlertown location of 24 – 7 Fitness. Oxyfit only acquired this location.
The new owners have kept everything pretty much the same. It remains a nice, clean gym where you will see people of all sizes, ages and color working out without getting in each other’s way. Always plenty of open treadmills, elliptical sand exercise bikes available, at least after work and early evening.
Amenities include free lockers, towels, steam room, sauna, hot tub. Lots of classes, but I can’t review those as I haven’t taken any. Spinning classes too.
Joining this gym gives you access here and their main location in Macungie, which is also very nice and does have newer equipment.
