Almay Ranch

If you have a somewhat large group that wants to stay at a place where they can have lots of fun together or wander off by themselves, this is the place. There’s just so much to do. The house was so comfortable and clean and well well-​equipped. In fact it’s one of the best equipped vacation rentals we have ever seen! Highly recommended!!!

There were 11 in our party and we all had a fabulous time at Almay Ranch! All the beds were comfortable and the kitchen very well stocked, including real coffee beans and a grinder! The deck easily holds over 11 people and the view from the deck is beautiful and peaceful. The sound of the nearby streams provided the only music we needed, but there was a CD player for folks to use as well as tons of board games. There was even a nearby picnic table with wi-​fi access.
We hiked many of the trails, saw jack rabbits, one beautiful colorful snake and lizard. Some of the group played the 9 hole golf course while others played mini-​golf, horse shoes and croquet.
The managers provided yummy homemade cookies on our arrival and set up a camp fire to roast s’mores which they also provided.
This is truly one of the best rentals we have stayed at and we have stayed at many. You won’t be disappointed. We definitely want to go back to Almay Ranch!

Our Grandkids (we were 8 adults and 4 kids under 3) keep asking if we can go to Almay today. I’m sure it wasn’t floating in the lake with their mother in the canoe, or the campfire with marshmallows, or the big lawn to just play on. If you just want to enjoy your wonderful family and enjoy each moment this is a place to do it.
Downstairs fit two adults and two toddlers perfectly and it had the game room and kitchen. Upstairs had a bunch of bedrooms, another kitchen, living room and our groups favorite gathering space — the long table seating dozens overlooking the lake.
If you play at golf like I do brings lots of old balls. Those water traps are brutal. The stonework around the property is beautiful at least to a civil engineer like myself. Hike up to the abandoned mine to see how the old miners contoured the revine.
We are not going this year only to try something different. But next year we will probably go back.

Our stay at the Ranch could not have been better. The property is filled with spectacular beauty, the facilities are top notch and beautifully maintained. What a beautiful place! The sound of running water constantly in the background, beautiful wildlife around, skies at night unblemished by city lights, all this and more is the experience of Almay Ranch. I can’t say enough about the beauty of the area. Much to do for active people… bike, hike, run, swim, or just watch Mirror Lake and the changing sky.
The accommodations are comfortable and the hosts so cordial and welcoming. Highly recommended.

My family and I had a great time at Almay Ranch! We loved being able to unplug and enjoy all the amazing amenities. Can’t wait to be there again next year!

Almay Ranch was the perfect setting for our family reunion this summer. We all had such fun swimming in the lakes, canoeing, fishing, golfing, hiking, playing games, roasting marshmallows around the campfire, and enjoying all three generations of our family. We also loved the peace and quiet of being disconnected from the outside world. Highly recommend this place! Hope to return again in the not too distant future.

Best place to do alot or just to relax. went with 4 other families had a great time and this place has great care takers that keep this place up and there is alot to keep up We rent a big place every year with other people and this place was on the top of the list and we been doing this for years.

If you’re looking for a place where your entire extended family can vacation, this is for you. It’s a sprawling 655-​acre property that you can have entirely to yourselves during your stay. You’re going to love it!
Accommodations: There were 20 of us including kids and we occupied both the main house (6 bedrooms, 3 baths, 2 kitchens) and the apartment (sleeps 2; complete with bath and kitchen). This place is well kept and clean. It’s spacious and comfortable for multiple families or a large group.
Activities for all: You couldn’t possibly run out of things to do: hiking, biking, ping-​pong, badminton, mini-​golf, football, baseball, soccer… you name it! The main house sits right in front of a lake where we enjoyed paddle-​boating and canoeing. We even walked to a nearby creek and decided to wade in the cool water. Others went fishing. Those who prefer quiet time just stretched out in the patio to read a book or take in the gorgeous view. There’s a big open meadow where we played the egg toss game. What a riot! Then one evening, we gathered around a fire pit where we roasted marshmallows and made s’mores. Indoors, they have all sorts of board games. They have a TV room but can only play DVDs. There is no cell phone service nor WiFi. But when you’re there, you’re happy to be «unplugged.» There is, however, a landline in the house but you’ll need a phone card to make outside calls. inbound calls are welcome.
Kitchen needs: At first, I was worried about not having enough fridge space for all the food we brought. (We stayed for 3 days.) But the main house has 3 large refrigerators and the kitchen is completely stocked with everything you could ever need. They have 2 large grills outside where we barbecued.
Accessiblity: How to get there is an adventure in itself. Some of us flew into Sacramento and drove up the rest of the way. The roads leading to Almay Ranch are well paved. I would recommend traveling there while there is still daylight. There are convenient stores not too far away where you can get necessities and gasoline.
