History

Established in 2007.

Meadowrock Alpacas was established November 11, 2007 when our plan to start an alpaca farm was put into action with the purchase of six huge old-growth fir timbers to support the hay loft in the barn. It was about a year later when our first pregnant females moved from their 12′ x 12′ Noble shelter into their alpaca palace. They LOVE their barn with all-season automatic waters, unique 24÷7÷365 hay bins, and cushy rubber mats.

Fast forward to 2011 when our 1,200 square foot wood shop was remodeled and converted into a farm store filled with alpaca gifts, alpaca clothing accessories, and, naturally, the luxurious alpaca yarn. To provide many quality hand-made items at affordable prices, we import many items from our sister, South America, specifically Peru. Alpaca Annex farm store opened October 1, 2011.

Meet the Business Owner

Barbara and Jim H.

Business Owner

Barbara retired from a 40-year accounting career in 2006 and «retired» her CPA certificate in June of 2013. She had a desire to learn something new and fun; well. .. alpacas are both, plus a little work. Both Jim and Barbara are active people but have given up their old motto of «work hard, play hard» and adopted «work hard, stay positive, and get up early» ;~)

Jim is an expert water-well driller. He is a third generation water-well driller here in Washington state; his cutting-edge grandfather DRILLED wells in the early 1900’s using horses. His family is responsible for many of the oldest water well logs in the state.

You are invited to come meet Barbara who is a daughter of a Washington pioneer family and who is a descendant of Sgt. Ordway who came west with the Lewis and Clark Expedition and her husband, Jim, who is a third generation Washingtonian. Their roots run deep here in the Pacific Northwest. They want to share their heritage and their ranch with you!
