I have followed dermatologist Dr. Aronson around from office to office, but I may be done.
He is wonderful. But went to see him a few weeks ago and was told that he was on medical leave and no one had bothered to call and cancel my appointment. I spelled my name for them three times and they couldn’t find me. My name was correctly spelled in the computer, but the yahoo kept spelling it wrong. No other doctor could see me that day, either. Missed work for nothing. Swell.
They couldn’t make a convenient appointment for me for this biopsy follow-​up, so I had to take more time off work. Great.
It’s ironic. The desk is a bank of computers, but the computers don’t seem to help the staff much. Show up for 2^nd appointment. They demand to know the name of doctor I am seeing, even though I don’t know the doctor. Stare at me until I start guessing and then they figure it out. Can’t the computers tell them that?
Third time I went there this year and again they went over all of my details — spell your name, give us your address, give us your phone number. Why? Aren’t those real computers?
Then they make me pay up front. Insulting.
Sit down in the waiting room. 20 minutes.
Someone calls my name. They take me way back to… another waiting room.
Third staff I run into comes in and calls out a first name that rhymes with mine. I say nothing. «Well, what’s your name?» she asks me in front of other patients. I tell her. «Oh, they musta meant you.»
Huh?
They take me into a room. «What are you here for?» The doctor had told me to come back in three months. Don’t the computers say that?
Blood pressure, questions about alcohol intake — very specific. For dermatology?
Then, she takes me BACK TO THE SECOND WAITING ROOM… AGAIN.
WTF?
OK, called into room. Dr. Kado comes in with another doctor wheeling in a laptop on a wheeled table. «Why are you here today?» Why doesn’t she know? What on earth are all of these computers for? Are they playing computer games instead of looking at my files??? Kooky times!
Dr. Kado is not interested. I just realize now that she didn’t know where my biopsy was, because she never looked there. Hightails it out of there as soon as possible. Second doctor stays and asks more questions about spots of concern the first doctor wouldn’t look at then also leaves without looking, saying, «Stay in here until someone can take you back to the front desk» and closes the door. Three minutes later I’m ready to leave. I’ve paid. Open the door and am barked at, «You can’t leave yet, I haven’t printed out your paperwork!» So I wait in the hall another 5 minutes. 4^th staffer leads me to the front, asks my name again. Reach the desk and 5^th staffer asks my name.
It was like I was being let out of prison one security post at a time.
What an absurd experience! Impersonal, rude, thoughtless, and a COMPLETE WASTE OF MY TIME!
