Coyote Moon Golf Course

The only reason you get two stars is because it’s beautiful.
However, for being high end golfing, you’d think your menu would be better. I am vegan, asked for a vegan wrap or something, and the lady was RUDE. She said «We don’t have vegan options, but I could make you a club sandwich without the meat and cheese.» I said «Well, what does that leave?» I was told: bread, lettuce, tomato and avocado. What?
Especially in Truckee, where many people eat healthy, you’d think you’d have something besides pulled pork and cheeseburgers!

A beautiful, majestic course with many challenges. Fairways and greens in fairly solid shape given the CA drought. But on my second visit, I wonder if it’s worth the $ 155 I payed?
Maybe not deal breakers for some, but these are some of my issues:
1. Driving nets instead of a range. Really? For $ 155 I expect an actual range. Worse, the condition of the hitting cage was a travesty: dirty, beat-​up balls that drop into the dirt after they hit the net. The four beat up mats are so close together I had to duck when practicing next to a lefty. They have two Adirondack chairs that get in the way. Still, you have to lean your clubs against them because they don’t provide any racks.
2. The practice/​putting facility. While scenic, the holes were placed on the sides of heavy undulations and the greens are very fast. So if you hit a slightly errant ball or don’t hole-​out, you often have to chase your balls down a long hill. Keeping track of your balls as they roll into other golfers is no way of getting into a rhythm.
3. Food and beverages — fine for an average track, but very limited for an expensive course in terms of food and alcohol. Few craft beers, food is average, full but very limited bar. The dining room was nothing special and they could use an outdoor patio. When we finished our round, everyone opted to go somewhere else.
The staff gets a thumbs-​up, and the starter gave great tips for play. But personally, the Tahoe Donner golf course down the street is a much better value at almost half the price. It has plenty of challenges, beautiful grounds, a nice patio, and the food is excellent.

I won’t boor you with hole by hole details because there’s no need. The entire course is spectacular! I don’t think there’s even one bad hole or compromise in design. Tees, greens, fairways, rough and bunkers were all in perfect condition! Lots of elevation changes. Appropriately challenging, but very playable for anyone whose handicap is about 30 or better (playing the correct tees). But we all know you can get impeccable conditions on lots of courses. What Coyote Moon adds to the value is gorgeous scenery and solitude. I’ve played high-​end courses all across the USA and Canada and I would rate Coyote Moon as THE MOST BEAUTIFUL COURSE I’VE EVER PLAYED that isn’t on the shore of an ocean or lake. GREAT VALUE!
One cautionary note: If you are travelling from Lake Tahoe to Coyote Moon, DO NOT take Hwy 89 up the west side of the lake unless you are not bothered by hairpin mountain switchbacks with no guardrails. It is much less stressful to go up the east side and through Incline Village.

Beautiful layout, perfect greens, super challenging course. Definitely a beautiful course, highly recommended although priced accordingly.

The nicest golf course in the truckee area. I come up here about 3 – 4 times a year during their open season to play this course. It provides a good balance of good conditions, challenging holes, and good service. Other than being able to play some of the private courses in the area, and I prefer this course over Shaffer’s mill which is semi-​private, the only public course that I would play over coyote moon is Edgewood in south lake tahoe.

Play’s longer than the yardage on the card. In our group we had someone who played it before. On his advice we palyed from the white tees even though it is only 6300 yards at about 6000 ft of elevation. i would suggest that you play from the white tees enless you are single diget handicap.
Only four stars because the greens were very firm, and a little bumpy due to lots of play.

What will $ 150 get you at Coyote Moon? Terrible greens and awful service.
The course for the most part is nice, with one glaring exception – the greens were in horrible condition. They play like they were just aerated, pock marked and chewed up. You were not going to make a put outside of 5 feet, except by dumb luck. Had I known the beautiful practice green was just a decoy to lure you onto those rat’s nests, I would have walked away.
But worse was how my disabled brother-​in-​law was treated. Since we were golfing as part of a weekend wedding celebration, he decided to come along. He cannot walk the course, so he brought his Segway, which he has ridden around many courses while we golf. The pro gave him grief about this and wasn’t going to let him come out with us. And instead of doing the decent thing and offering him a cart, the pro reluctantly let him pay $ 25 for a cart and acted like it was a major inconvenience to do so.
So if you like terrible greens and having your family insulted, Coyote Moon is for you.

We played this course 2 days ago and I wanted to chew on my thoughts of this $ 120 round. First of all, the layout design of this course is fantastic! Rolling hills with tight fairways and tall branched walls make this track a challenging round for those over 10 handicap. My buddy and I were extremely disappointed in the greens which look like they were green scraped wood floors. Most of the greens didn’t have enough grass for true rolls. Many of the fairways were needing help too. In defense of the course mgmt, it is a new course that like a wine needs time to build to be enjoyed. IF the right treatment going forward of the course is pampered to allow the greens and fairways to come in, then this place will be the talk of Tahoe/​Reno area. Until the course starts to mature some, the rates should be half off from what they’re asking. The staff were very friendly and the views incredible. I would have just waited a six months to a year before spending a day out there on my few days of vacation. Hope this helps!

This has to be one of the most beautiful courses I have played. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I cannot comment on the pace of play, because the course was empty. I have two concerns with this course. There is no GPS on the carts and the two apps on my phone didn’t have the course on them. The second concern is the price. While I don’t have a problem paying for a course of this caliber, I think you should know the yardages to the greens and hazards. Regardless, I would definitely return and play this course again!

Unfortunately, I had a very similar experience this morning at Coyote Moon to that which Jim M. wrote about last year. We had two groups and were the 4^th and 5^th off on a Sunday morning and the pace of place was unbearable. We waited on every shot, every tee box, you name it. Called the proshop from the second tee and yet they were unable to resolve the problem, or make any of us feel like they really cared. Beautiful course, but complete waste of time and money and large group of us won’t be going back.

One awesome golf course, especially when I got to play for free, as I won this in a contest and played it on a weekday in july… with very little to none slow play. The course was in great conditions and the green semi fast. And I had no issue with the staff, and was able to order something small to eat before heading to south shore for another day of golf the next day….

Stunning golf course. Beauty abounds. There are some good discounts for NCGA members. No driving range, but there’s a warm-​up station to hit balls into a net. GPS on the cart would have been nice (too bad).

Great course, good shape, wicked greens. It’s pricey and slow, but it’s Tahoe.

this course has it all, the scenic value, lush fairways and greens, creative layout that will challenge even the best golfer and a great staff.
as you pull up to a great clubhouse you know that your in for a very special day. the staff is great and the food there is superb. the practice area and putting greens are huge, and the warm up area to hit balls is a bit small which is the only thing I thought needed to be bigger. the best thing is that no where on houses on the course or such. all you see is nature in all its beauty and hear the wind, its like a golf wonderland.
the fairways are well groomed and and there’s a great mix of water and creeks mixed in. the greens are perfect, smooth, fast, and true and the sand traps are even better. if your off the fairway past the rough you are in the trees and flowers for most part, this course demands good shot making and will reward the risk shot factor too. the views along the course are breath taking and don’t forget to bring your camera too. the course too had a players asst who we saw twice out there, that makes sure you don’t need anything and your having a great time. then theres the cart girls who have everything on there carts and are wonderful.
at the finish you can either sit outside and relax with a great view or sit inside for some great food and drinks. the pro shop has a great selection of most everything you need mixed a few things you wish you had… lol
I can’t believe this course hasn’t gotten a tour stop or pro-​am yet, as it is well worthy of it.
if you are in the Tahoe area and want to treat yourself to a course you will not soon forget, this is it. I have played many of the courses in the area and this is the one I keep coming back too. Coyote Moon Golf Course is a golfers gold mine in the Sierras and worth visiting for sure.
