T J O’Briens Appliance Repair

Want to commend and thank TJ O’Brien’s for their excellent service. They were responsive, efficient and made good suggestions. The part ordered and repair made. Will call again, but hopefully not too soon!
The detail: Our refrigerator seemed to be having trouble keeping things cold the morning after a large shop in anticipation of a weekend of guests, including an 18 mo old. TIm was responsive to my call and said he would try to get his technician out in the afternoon but there was a full schedule. Cody came at 3 (much earlier than we had hoped) and was able to diagnose the problem and order the part. He advised that the freezer would be OK, but frig needed ice blocks to keep food cold. With that and a wonderful neighbor, we made it.
We weren’t left questioning, new frig vs repair for the whole weekend. They were able to get the part and fix the frig even after we left, emailing us an invoice.
Bottom line: Recommend!

Had an oven handle that my renters reported was coming off on one side. The guy from TJ’s shop said the oven handle needed to be replaced and they would order a replacement part.
Great… except that wasn’t remotely true. All that was wrong was that a loose screw needed to be tightened, which I did myself the next time I was at the house. TJ still sent me a bill for over $ 200.

Thank You TJ for your hard work, fast response, and effective solution to my broken Dryer. As a vacation rental owner living in Hawaii, we value those repair professionals that can act quickly and within budget. TJ is your best choice in Truckee-​Tahoe!

Had an issue with my Kitchen Aid range. The warranty service gave me TJ’s name and number for service. He arrived on time and did a thorough inspection of my new range, while doing so he found another problem that I was not aware of. He fixed the upper heating element of the broiler in addition to my other issue. He was easy to work with and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend him as he seems to be an honest «old school» businessman.

Tj and crew are amazing! I manage Second Home Care and we have 200 clients. He always is reliable and honest. Appliances are the hardest things to deal with up here and he goes way above and beyond to give excellent customer care. Thanks TJ for taking care of our crazy clients this summer

Can’t say enough about TJ. Had a dryer give out and new renters coming in for a week. Dryer was new in February so under warranty. Called Sears and was told the could not get anyone out for three weeks. Called Whirlpool and they said two weeks.
Email to TJ who answered right away. Then called twice His schedule was full but he understood the situation and made time. Said he could come in two days He did and now we have a working dryer. Neither Sears or Whirlpool tried him but the should of
Very disappointed in the Sears warranty and under the circumstances found it useless
More kudos go to Charlie at the Sears Truckee store. He not only went to the house but tried to expedite Sears to no avail.

I called about a dead refrigerator and Tim walked me through the steps of checking the power and switch over the phone. Ultimately, I just had to flip a small on/​off button behind the compressor panel a few times and the problem was solved. I was so thrilled not to have to schedule an appointment for repair. They easily could have charged me to come do this, and I think it speaks so highly of them that they took the time to walk me through it over the phone to save me the time and money. I didn’t need a repair from the this time, but I’ll certainly call them first the next time I do!

I have used TJ for years, for both myself and for our Real Estate and Building clients. He has always provided us with prompt service, and has followed through to be sure the job was done correctly. After recently needing him for a repair in my home, I was happy to see that he is still providing great service!

I think Cody, TJs technician is great. Very competent. However, I had a part replaced and it went bad 10 days later. I called TJ and told the new part was bad. He said «you don’t know what you are talking about, that was not a new part, it was old» I asked him to please not contradict me. I had seen the technician tear open the package on the new part. The technician came, said the part had been new and was probably defective. I was billed for the first part, the replacement part and 2 service calls. They do not stand behind parts or labor. I wrote a note asking if work lasting 10 days would be covered under a service commitment. I got no answer. They just cashed the second check.

I have used TJ’s services for many years personally and for my Real Estate Clientele. My clients are always satisfied and TJ goes the extra mile. Thank you for your work over the years and also volunteering in the community with the Lyons Club. We need more local business owners like you.

AWFUL. Awful service. I called on Monday January 6^th to make an appointment for that week.
They said they would be able to get us in on Friday the 10^th.
A week goes by and no calls– no emails– nothing to confirm. I tried calling, left a message and had received no response.
I then called all day Monday the 13^th to finally get in touch with someone. After not hearing back until 4pm, the receptionist finally called me back letting me know someone would be calling me that evening to schedule for tomorrow. GREAT– I thought.
Tuesday January 14^th rolls around and still no word from them. I called them all day– finally able to get ahold of them at 2:30pm. The receptionist then tells me «They won’t be making it today, they are going to have to change it until Friday.»
WOW. Talk about terrible customer service. I would suggest bringing your business elsewhere, Truckee people! Awful customer service, no return phone calls and rude receptionist. Not my cup of tea.
******Just to add on***** The receptionist just tried to argue with me explaining that «I was not the owner of the house, so customer service wasn’t as important because I am just a renter»

Great local service repair man. Honest and gets the job done right.

TJ was awesome! My washer went down on a Saturday night. He called me back first thing Monday morning. Since he couldn’t get to me until the next morning, I had a go at the washer myself. I found the faulty parts and called him back.
He helped me identify the parts and gave me two options. He would put them on his order from Sacramento to arrive the next day, or I could drive to a parts place in Reno myself. He even gave me their number. Since the parts place didn’t have one of the items in stock, I went with TJ. The next day, the parts came in– at almost HALF the cost of what I would’ve paid the «wholesaler» in Reno! He didn’t mark them up at all.
I drove to his house and picked them up. He was so kind and friendly in person, and even offered to coach me over the phone if I ran into trouble. Mind you, he’s doing this all without making a DIME off me! Amazing.
I wholeheartedly recommend Mr. O’Brien for all appliance repair. If a man is that kind and helpful to someone he’s not even charging, I can only imagine how great he is with his clients!

TJ was great. He came when he said he would. Diagnosed the problem and fixed it in a single visit. Also helping with another problem. Great service…

I have had 3 repairs (2 for the oven, 1 for the dryer) completed by Mr O’Brien and his staff during the past year. Mr O’Brien is extremely knowledgeable, professional and fair with his pricing. If you communicate clearly with him on the phone, sometimes he can determine the problem that way, order the necessary part and save you money on an additional service call. Highly recommend!
