We are Truckee’s Premier Auto Repair Facility. With 12 full bays, we are a full service automotive repair and maintenance shop providing services from oil changes to detailed diagnostic work on all makes and models including RV’s and a waiting room that helps make your experience even better. Free wi fi and coffee.

We are proud to be the only AAA Approved auto repair facility in our area and enjoy taking care of your automotive needs in our purposefully built state-​of-​the-​art facility.

We are also BBB accredited and have ASE Certified technicians, and are recognized as a state of California certified smog inspection station.

We understand that vehicle repair can be stressful and we do everything possible to make our customers feel welcome, comfortable, and satisfied with their service experience.

We are proud to say that we have been serving the Truckee, Tahoe and Reno areas for over 30 years, and we plan to continue offering quality service and repairs to all our customers.

History

Established in 1983.

John Lamoreux’s career in the automotive industry started back in 1983, when as a teenager he offered a mobile auto detail and repair service. Encouraged by his mother Dorothy (a local realtor) he started working on cars belonging to her work colleagues and the rest is history.

In the summer of 2005, the purpose built «state of art facility» situated on 3 acres (now the home of The Auto & Tire Doctor) opened it’s doors for business and has continued it’s legacy of providing first class workmanship and exemplary customer service to the residents and business owners of Truckee and the North Lake Tahoe areas.

To say that cars are a passion is an understatement. As John’s alias indicates there is nothing that he doesn’t know or hasn’t seen when it comes to cars!

From the mobile automotive detailing business that John single handedly started as a teenager back in 1983, to the purpose built state of the art facility built in 2005 (now the proud home of The Auto & Tire Doctor) in Truckee, John’s world is consumed with the love of cars! An avid NASCAR fan and sponsor of 2 dirt cars there isn’t a moment, 365 days a year 24/​7, that these objects of warm affection and devotion do not feature on his radar.

John is the 3rd generation USA Citizen of the Lamoreux family (French European in origin) with a rich tradition in customer service and automotive experience as the pictures below, of Grandfather Harry R. Lamoreux’s store the «Lamoreux Trading Post & Stables» in Cherokee, Iowa & Harry (sitting on the ground) working on a Dodge Touring Car Circa 1900 demonstrate, you could say it’s in the blood!

We had a flat tire on our travel trailer while returning from a trip to Stampede reservoir. They got us right in and off the road, repaired our tire and for insurance we purchased a new tire for a spare at a good price. On our way in 45 minutes.

Horrible… STAY clear. They took advantage of my dad due to it being a holiday weekend, No tow trucks available, and the fact that he HAD to be in LA the next day. DO NOT go there… They lied, cheated, and stole his money by increasing the bill to an amount that was outrageous. They knew he had not other choice. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME, MONEY, or Patience here.

This place was amazing ! We left our cabin after our wedding getaway to find we had a cracked oil filter, it being a Saturday we have very few options, we talked to John and he said he can try to squezze us in, so we drove down there not knowing what to expect ! We were in and out with a simple oil and oil filter change in less than an hour, amd the price was normal, no rush fees, no extra charge for it being Saturday !!! thank you to all at the Tire Doctor for helping our honeymoon get on the right start #cheers

I had a leaky valve stem and my tie went flat. I brought it in and they tightened it and checked all the others in five minutes and didn’t even charge me! In the estimate they said $ 20 if they had to do more than tightening and thats exactly what they did! Honest, efficient and friendly! Thank you for your help!

The Auto & Tire Doctor are fantastic! I needed four oil changes for some large vans on a whim and these were the only folks that could fit me in on the same day. (I called three places in Truckee before finding them!)
They were extremely accommodating to my schedule and have Wifi on site if you have to wait for your vehicle. The cute chocolate lab doesn’t hurt, either. This will definitely be my go to shop whenever I’m in town!

I bought 4 new tires from them for over a $ 1,000. They recommended Michelin tires. When I had a problem within two weeks of buying them and I returned they tell me they are not Michelin dealers. I had to buy another tire to replace what I believe was a defective tire.
I live in Truckee now for a while and wanted to support a local business.
Problems happen, but their attitude was the biggest problem. Bad attitude, not helpful.
Jason, the guy I dealt with should not be dealing with customers.
They left the bad tire in my car which i didn’t ask for and now it’s my problem. I could go on with details about my experience but the basic idea is when they were selling they were great, when you have a problem then they stink.

These guys are awesome. John and team did a great job replacing the CV joints/​axels on my 2004 Volkswagen Passat. My fiancé and I dropped the car off while they were closed on Sunday, and on Monday John picked us up from our hotel (with his cute dog Winston) and took us to the shop. He showed us what was wrong then leant us his Subaru station wagon for the day so we could still go skiing. The shop completed the work quickly and $ 40 less than quoted. Great work, guys!

Really friendly staff! It was only 45 $ for an oil change! Also, there is a comfortable lounge area to relax at while your car is getting worked on which is a mega plus when your getting an oil change and have to hang out.

There was a piece of plastic hanging off the bottom of my car during the middle of my work day and sounded awful when I drove. I thought something was really wrong. I was worried that I was going to have to call it a day. They quickly checked my car, removed the piece, and sent me on my way without any charge. I appreciate the service and will return.

Based on today’s experience, I couldn’t have been happier. Went in, without an appointment, to get my tires balanced. (Was afraid there may be something else wrong with my front end). Within 30 minutes, they called my name and my truck was done. They were very friendly, and I’m also glad the said there wasn’t any bad new in the end Thank you!

Bad experience for me. Told me my car was fine. Continued to struggle with the same symptoms I originally patronized this business to correct. Found out I was right months later when symptoms were validated by another repair business, who corrected these issues for free. Really disappointed with my experience.

I love this place! Subaru specialists!!! They are an amazing group of people and they are super friendly. They always take care of me with lots of great professionalism. My Subaru loves getting worked on by them because they treat her right!
I am not one for appointments and they have a cool drop off system. This is my favorite because then they can start working on it first thing in the am and I don’t have to wake up early to drop it off.
I wish I could bring these guys everywhere I go. Tahoe love!

I don’t often write reviews, but after my visit to the Auto Doctor, I thought I would share my experience. I came in on a busy Friday with a car that had to be towed in because it had dash warning lights on. There were 2 people at the counter, Gabby and Tim, and they said they probably wouldn’t be able to look at it until Monday, as they were already really busy. A third person, Tom, came in from the shop area, heard the last part of the conversation, jumped in and said «we are busy, but we will figure it out».
I was skeptical, as I am a woman and very wary of auto repair places in general, but especially when I really had no choice, as I was broken down. I was expecting the worst, either a huge repair bill while stranded in Truckee, or the car just sitting all day and nobody looking at it. I was wrong on both counts.
Tom took my keys and took the car around back. He made sure I had the WiFi password and told me where I could get lunch if I was hungry. I sat for 15 minutes and he assured me that I would have an answer soon.
After about 30 minutes, he came through the back door with paperwork and came over to the couch. I thought to myself, he we go, what bad news does he have for me? He explained the results of the inspection, my car was 5,000 miles past due for an oil change and the coolant level was low. My dash warning light was only a low coolant light, not a terminal issue, but I did not know that.
I came in prepared to pay for a large repair. I came in expecting the worst in a small town repair shop, but I was pleasantly surprised. To the Auto Doctor crew, thank you for treating me fairly and for going out of your way to make me feel welcome. I do not live in your area, so I am writing this review to make sure that others know you are a special place to do business with; as you truly care about your customers.
PS: They also had warm chocolate chip cookies.

For me, I was out of town and far from home. About a mile from my destination I blew a tire and limped to the hotel. After AAA put the spare on for me I called these guys and they not only gave me a great price but more than excellent service. The woman I spoke with on the phone, Gabby, was very sweet and helpful. I would recommend this place in a heartbeat. It’s a no brainer. Do yourself a favor and call them right now!

I was on my way to a graduation in Reno and car disaster struck! As a woman you are always leery of mechanics because there are those that tend to take advantage when they can. I can say with 100% confidence that this shop is trustworthy and won’t take advantage, because they could have with me. I was in a bind and they knew it.
My 99 FE overheated on I80 going East near Kingvale, right as I got into the usual road construction on the pass. Luckily I had to slow to a crawl or the engine would have burned up and not just the radiator. A nice guy pulled over and helped me limp it over to the Kingvale exit, and I was able to coast down to Truckee. I stopped at the first station (zero stars for that dude) He said he was too busy and said call around, but everyone is probably too busy to help you today. Rude.
I «Yelped» because I don’t know Truckee, and Auto Tire Doctor was 5 stars and I called, and he said he was very busy but bring it and he’d make time. They were SO incredibly nice. They took a look, gave me the bad news (radiator) and said they could fix it and I’d have it the next day (keep in mind it’s about 4pm at this point)
I called to see if I could get a rental car (no) and one of the service guys said he was driving some other stranded people to Reno and he had room. I declined because my son said he would come get me — but right on service dude for offering !!!
They quoted me $ 600 and told me it would be ready at 3 – 4 the following afternoon. I showed up at 3 & they were putting it through it’s paces and by 3:30 they put the keys back in my hand. Total cost $ 550.
I drove it back to Reno and then drove it back to Silicon Valley yesterday, and no issues. Even in morning commute traffic in Sacto, Concord, and SV the car didn’t get hot.

I was stranded in Truckee with my grandson and his car. We were driving down from Idaho when we got a flat. Turned out that all 4 of his tires were bad. AAA recommended The Auto and Tire Doctor. John the owner and his staff Cindy & Gabby were very nice & helpful. They had to search the planet to find the tires… but they did it! They even let us borrow their truck to go into town. Super nice people! Thanks!

Considering I had broken down and had to spend the night,
these guys are great.
They called first thing next morning and got right to my car, quickly gave me estimate, completed repairs and John picked me up at my hotel.
Since my schedule was shot anyway, John was able to recommend a scenic route home and a great place to stop for lunch.
Staff was super friendly. They made what could have been a terrible situation bearable and pleasant.
Excellent work, got me back on the road fast!
