Specialties
Truckee River Winery was established 25 years ago with the vision of sourcing quality grapes, bringing the fruit to Truckee in order to take advantage of the high elevation and cold temperatures, to naturally cool the fermentation and slow down the barrel aging process. Thus becoming the highest and coldest winery. Our focus from the beginning has been to produce hand crafted wines with great structure and finesse. Our award winning Pinot Noir is the winemaker’s pride and joy. Come and visit our tasting room and enjoy all of our unique and distinctive wines.
History
Established in 1989.
Our winery was started 25 years ago in the garage of a ski lover and his wife. For 9 years they made great wine for their friends and family in the area, and decided to expand. They moved the winery into a two story barn on the river, where they could make 1000 cases, with the help of their daughter and friends. Five years they opened a tasting room, so that all locals and visitors of Truckee could come and enjoy their wine.
Meet the Business Owner
Russ J.
Business Owner
I was born in Yosemite National Park, where I spent most of my childhood, until my family and I moved to Squaw Valley. I learned how to ski in Yosemite, but I learned how to race in Squaw. I spent all of my high school career racing and loving the snow. I graduated from UC Davis with a degree in Enology and Viticulture (wine making and grape growing). My wife, who I had met in highschool, and I traveled through Oregon and Washington, after graduation, where I worked at several wineries and perfected the Pinot Noir process. My wife and I moved back to Truckee to start a family, and there I decided to make my own wine, using the natural ideal temperatures and humidity of Tahoe to make my wine distinctively unique.
