Skin Deep and Beyond Day Spa

We always visit this spa when we are in town and it is probably one of the things I look most forward to. Stefani is amazing with facials and actually makes it so extractions are not painful. Today I had a massage with Celina and it was fantastic. She was really good with firm pressure. I wish I could transport up here on a monthly basis because it is that good. While I do hear cars and conversation from time to time, the noise is not a problem compared to other spas I have visited. Ambiance is nice … I have at times felt a little pressure to buy product but I think that goes with the territory of going to a real day spa. I have purchased the products in the past and was not as happy with them as when Stefani mixes them for a personalized facial.

OK here’s the skinny on this place. I purchased a couples massage for my husband and I. I was super excited, as he has never had a professional massage before. He was quite nervous, but they are super friendly and he became more and more comfortable. The front desk gal is a trip. She is so friendly and helpful on the phone and just as cute in person. She could tell hubs was nervous and said «should I get you a glass of wine?» LOL soooo the massage… the room and ambiance was perfect, they warm the beds and have soft light blankets along with a sheet. Never had that before. was so nice! Even a pillow type thing under your ankles and knees so you are even more comfy. My massage was perfect, absolutely perfect! I was laying there convinced my hubby must be in heaven too. Unfortunately when we got done, he said he would definitely not call it relaxing :(He explained how his massage went and I was so sad. The gal was all over the place, started with a leg then an arm then a leg. super random, not working her way down the body. He told me all kinds of awkward stuff she did that was totally not a massage. I was really really disappointed due to of course the money you spend on this stuff and for having such high hopes that he would of enjoyed it because he DESERVES it. The massage he got sounded so bad… all I can say is… my gals name was Nora and she was amazing! Everything else was great too, I would go back but request Nora.

I had a massage today here and this was the first time I had a massage done with hot stones. I must say it was amazing! It was very relaxing. The price was reasonable and ambiance is soothing. I will be going back.

I love this Spa! I have used several of their services — laser hair removal, facial and massage. I have never had poor service or been disappointed. On the contrary, it’s always better than expected. The owner, Cindy, is knowledgeable but not pushy. I hate going to spas that only wish to sale and push products. That is not the case at this Spa. They really try to create a calm and peaceful atmosphere. Thank you!

Previously had a massage and facial here. Both were wonderful. Recently, booked again for a facial. The person who did the first facial was on leave so tried someone else. I am not happy with this second experience and feel I did not get what I went in for. I scheduled my appointment over the phone to make sure I got a specific specialized facial which lasts 60 minutes. It seemed no matter what I told the esthetician, she had her own idea which service she determined I was getting. She kept saying she was doing a good overall cleaning and my own knowledge of my skin and what was desired was ignored. The service seemed very quick. When I went to pay, the receptionist informed me I did not have what was scheduled but instead had a 50-​minute facial. By the time I got home, my skin was very oily. The facial was not much more than a cleaning with products that were incorrect for my skin. If I just wanted my face cleaned, I could have easily done this at home with a better result without the excessive oil. I would not go back to this particular esthetician and feel it was a waste of money. If I eventually do decide to return here, it would be with the first person who did the facial.

I’ve been back multiple times since my previous 2011 review, as has my husband. I have to say that the noise problems have definitely been fixed. When I get a massage I want to totally zone out, and my experiences since my initial review have been much more positive. The spa is quiet and relaxing, especially considering busy Martinazzi Ave is right outside. The staff is always wonderful, especially masseuse Carrie. I literally feel my soul leaving my body by the end of one of her massages.

Last Saturday my boyfriend and I had the greatest experience. Staff is so nice and really made us relax. Highly recommend this for a relaxing day at a spa.

Wonderful! The staff is very welcoming and super knowledgable about their services and products. Combine that with a relaxing environment perfectly conducive to leaving the world behind and relaxing with amazing reasonable prices! I will be back Again and again.

I would most definitly not suggest using this salon. Cindy, the main lady that works for this business (or maybe owns it, I am not sure), is rude, un-​organized, does not follow through on her word (or maybe forgets), and does not take care of her customers.
The first time I went in to buy Eminence products she was helpful, but upsold me on other items that caused me to have a reaction. She was good about returning the product, but that may have been because I was purchasing more product at that time. She then told me about a special they were having in which you can purchase three Eminence products and receive a free facial. The first time I was in she did not let me know about the special, which seems strange to me since it was available at that time. Of course I was excited to receive a free facial! Who wouldn’t be?! So, I scheduled one. More than a full day before my scheduled appointment I had a conflict of schedule and called to re-​book. It was well within the requested time to re-​schedule an appointment. I told Cindy that I may be able to make it in that Friday, but I wasn’t sure. She was super nice and said it was no problem, that they were wide open ALL day on Friday, and to just call that morning and let her know if and when I could make it. I was very pleased with how accomidating she was. Late Thursday night I receive an email (the first of it’s kind) stating I have an appointment at 10 AM the next morning. I thought that was weird since we didn’t book a time and just figured her computer system generated it to remind her I may be coming in. I didn’t call, because of course they were closed and it was late. FIRST thing in the morning I call and speak with a very nice lady named Stephanie and tell her I can’t make it in, that I am going out of town. She says it is no problem whatsoever and to just call when I can to get re-​scheduled. I called yesterday, Tuesday, and Cindy asks for my name. She still doesn’t remember who I am as her client and again can’t find me in her computer. She finds me a few minutes later and tells me rudely that they won’t be helping me with a facial because I scheduled two appointments and didn’t keep them. She said she had paid staff to come in for my 10 AM appointment. She also said she had sent me multiple emails stating I had an appointment.
None of this is true. I nicely told her I never booked an appointment for Friday and tried to remind her of our conversation, and she basically told me I was wrong and that I had in fact booked an appointtment and broken it. The way in which I was spoken to and taken care of in my opinion is completely un-​called for. As a business woman myself, I understand the costs of running a businss — the most important thing is to treat your clients well and make them feel appreciated and special. Breaking your word, telling a client they are wrong, and placing the blame on a client are not characteristics of a business that I will support or suggest anyone else to. There are other salon’s in the area that carry Eminence products and that go out of their way to help. From now on I will be only going to these salons, and would be happy to provide you with their information so you can to.

I had visited the old location of Skin Deep and was always satisfied with their services. I had not been in for an appointment for years when I saw a deal come up on Sharing Spree Portland. I bought the spree and made my appointment. I happen to call on the Friday before Christmas (not expecting to get an appointment until after the holidays) and the receptionist was so accommodating and got me an appointment for that same afternoon! When I walked in the doors, I was instantly greeted with warm, soft lighting, and relaxing music. I walked into the waiting area which has a fireplace glowing and sat down. I had arrived early and was asked by several employees if I needed anything… they were all so friendly! I had the microdermabrasion treatment done by Sarah and had a most enjoyable chat with her. She made me feel comfortable and relaxed during the procedure. It was a great experience and I will continue to visit them again in the future!

Great spa… not pretentious at all! which is appreciated considering the alternatives which think they are all that! Have done laser treatments, threading and a foot/​hand treatmentf (this was INCREDIBLE). All were very good! Also really appreciate how communicative they are with scheduling and services.

This place is good. I used to go here all the time because it was close to my apartment, clean and they always ran on time. I always liked that I could book a facial and they would tailor it to my needs. They never charged me excessively even though I would tell them to do «what was needed.»
However their receptionist needs to go through training again. I called for an appointment for the next day (Wednesday) When I went in, they had accidentally booked the facial for the following week (also a Wednesday, but the wrong week). They had me wait while they called in an esthetician that could help me. She had to find a last minute babysitter but was able to come in to do my facial. I only had to wait 15 minutes for her.
It was an okay facial and I felt bad that she had to drop everything with her child to help me because of her employer’s scheduling error. They didn’t bother telling me this, I overheard the phone call. Had I known I would have gone somewhere else. I tipped her more than I should have as the service was okay, but she was extremely nice.

Had a chance to get a facial here with a Groupon and glad I did. Very pleased with the results. Jen is fantastic. Very much appreciate her experience and pragmatism in trying to understand and problem solve the curse which is my skin. Though this was not a relaxing facial (don’t worry, not what I was after) the warming/​burning, prodding and scrubbing revealed beautifully smooth, clean and glowing skin.
Though the location is out of my way (North Portland to Tualatin… ugh) I will definitely be returning for another session with Jen.

I have always had my deep tissue sports massages done here and wouldn’t go anywhere else. They really do an excellent job.

I have had about six massages here having a positive experience EVERY SINGLE TIME!
Most certainly a personal massage is a personal experience and I can not rate the person, only the place, but Skin Deep sure knows how to pick ‘em.
The atmosphere is calm, relaxing, and warm. The facility is clean, moderately lit, and wonderfully decorated. The staff is fantastic.

Update Mar 21, 2012. I gave an honest 3 star review back in Feb 2007 (scroll down). I stand by it. Looking at other review websites, many have given far worse reviews than mine (mine in a nutshell: the massages were average, as was the price, loud cell phone user allowed outside my door = 3 stars). Since 5 years ago, I’ve continued to periodically receive rude messages from Cindy O (who I assume to be Cindy Ogden, the owner, since the first message listed her as such). I didn’t have any problem with customer service when I wrote the review, but after so many insulting messages (included below), unfortunately, now I have a huge problem with the customer service.

This country (not Japan) and our workers depend on their jobs. Please do the right thing and stop this anti-​American behavior.»
June 9, 2011, received a message from Cindy O. complaining that my review was 4 years old. I stand by my review, especially when the website shows a price hike up to $ 79 for a 60 minute massage (as of Mar 2012, this is still the price on the website, though Cindy tells me it’s been reduced). I liked these two better, though (see my reviews), Elite Muscular Therapy in Vancouver or The Massage Clinic in Tigard, and their prices have remained consistent, 60 minutes for $ 60 and $ 65, respectively.
That said, if you are in Tualatin and think the price sounds fair, give them a try. I won’t remove a star for the price hike and will give them the benefit of the doubt that the location/​upgrades justify the new pricing. (as an aside, though, I had one of the best massages of my life at a zero frills place in Thailand last month. Didn’t miss the atmosphere touches one bit. When I pay for a massage, I just like people to touch me in a way that makes me feel good, even if it’s in the equivalent of someone’s basement. Not everyone feels that way. That’s just me. And this is my review.)

I’ve been here several times for an hour long massage, but never for any of the other expensive floofy spa services that they do offer, in case you are interested in those.
Granted, to me, any massage is automatically 5 stars all by itself. Someone please just touch me like that for an hour, and I’m a happier girl. So, it takes some work to lose a star, but it’s possible if the massage is really just kind of average even among a few different massager people, and even more so if no one even tried to enforce the rule about someone chatting on their cell phone right outside my door for about 5 of my precious 60 minutes of indulgent me time. The last thing I want to hear while trying to buy some bliss is someone else prattling on about their stuff. Even if it’s interesting, I still don’t want to hear it, and I want those 5 minutes back.
The price is $ 60 for 60 minutes, so it’s about average but not really a bargain. They do take the Spa Finder gift certificates if you are lucky enough to get one of those (always at the top of my birthday and Christmas list, to no avail). You can book your appointment online, and their website pretty well spells out all of their services and prices.
