Beyond Basic Massage

I chose to come to this place based on all the 4 and 5 star ratings on Unilocal.Maybe I came during an off time or I just had that fluke experience where I’m the only one writing something bad. My boyfriend had called for a couples massage and they gave us the intro price because we were new customers. Got there and went through the basics like paperwork, they were nice. Once in the room they did the Epsom salt foot soak, the water wasn’t warm but I can live with that. The first warning sign should have come when the lady went to dry my feet, they used paper towels like the ones they had in the bathroom. It kind of struck me as odd but I thought maybe it was easier for them.
On my form I circled both medium and light pressures for my massage. After I was undressed and under the covers, she began the massage sitting in the roller stool next to the massage table. At first I thought she was testing the pressures but after a few minutes I asked her to put a little more pressure. She said she couldn’t increase the finger and hand pressure very much but would try. I’m 4’9″ and I weigh 102 lbs. If I’m telling you the pressure is too light, you seriously have a problem. First of all, you can’t get much pressure when you’re at arms level with them and not standing above them. At times I was getting frustrated because the massage seemed pointless without the pressure. I kept looking at the clock and contemplated telling her to stop but I didn’t want to sit awkwardly out in the front room while my boyfriend finished his massage. I did get a ton of heavy pressure when she used her elbows. I don’t understand why people don’t understand that elbow pressure in your shoulders and neck just doesn’t feel good. She kept doing it over and over, despite feeling my body pull away each time. On other parts of my body, her touch was so light I wondered what she was doing. It was like a baby’s touch. She maneuvered around the massage table in the rolling stool most of the time, accidentally banging up against the table more than a few times.
Towards the end of the massage, she had me flip over. As she continued with her minor touch massage which included sniffling and coughing throughout the session, I laid there staring at the ceiling and wondering how Unilocal had gotten it so wrong. She did give me a scalp massage which I have to say was the best part of the session. She said thank you and left me to get dressed. Here I was, covered in oil and left to dress. Every massage place I’ve ever been to has used a hot towel to wipe up the excess amounts of oil so that you don’t stick to your clothes. I used the blankets on the bed to de-​slick myself and proceeded out. I tipped her because I didn’t want her to feel bad in front of the other masseuse. I didn’t even want to pay for my massage but i stayed till the end and that was my mistake.

I started coming here because I found a deal on Groupon. I’m a professional musician who has long hours of practicing and studying, so I end up with a lot of upper back and arm issues. My most recent massage with Janelle was very intense, which is what I requested, as I needed to loosen up the knots in my back. I have also had massages from Rory (the owner) and Coloradas. They are all terrific. They constantly offer deals, so you’re bound to get an affordable, quality massage.

Beyond Basic is the only place for me! Theresa was absolutely fabulous :)) she met all of my needs and I left feeling incredible. Please! Go to her!

Rory the Owner is wonderful and make sure that you get a great price and product. I have had two massages and will make sure I come back again. They can go deep or not just let Jenel know what your looking for when booking and she will set you in the right direction. People who care! best quality massage and I have been getting massage for most of my life. Once they know what you want they do the best to please you Two location so it make it so easy for you no mater what side of tucson you live on. don’t want to tell you who to book with since I HAVE FOUND THEM the two I have gone to both really good and different. One of the only massage places on groupons that really wants you to come back and not a one time shot. I sure I will be a regular…

I have had the pleasure of several deep tissue massages from Theresa and Colorados. Both have unique techniques that truly provide me with just what I need to relieve tension and address my back problems. I highly recommend either of them!
Update: Had a WONDERFUL deep tissue massage with trigger point work from Colorados this past week at the Carondolet office (what a beautiful facility, BTW). Can’t recommend him enough!

I have been a client of Theresa’s at Beyond Basic Massage and have had many sessions. All have been excellent and beneficial. She is intuitive in locating source areas that require attention and relief; years of desk work, gravity and an autoimmune disease contribute to my need for body work. I appreciate the firmness of her touch, her knowledge of the muscular system and overall knowledge of the body; I have had great results.

Got a massage from Amelia and was happy to experience another high quality Beyond Team therapist. Her technique and determination to ease my back, neck, and leg really worked. I would highly recommend her. Keep up the good work and thanks to Rory for his great team.

I saw Amelia yesterday and she did a really nice massage. She asked in depth questions determining my needs for my massage. Prices are very reasonable for high qualify massage. Only suggestion is that bathroom is a little run down with broken soap dispenser and faucet that did not shut off, as well as the massage room is a bit noisy from out side noise. Possibly a sound machine would be helpful.

Found this place with a groupon and now I am a regular (with a membership!) The quality and prices are unbeatable. I cannot say enough amazing things about the quality of the massages here — I usually see Rory who is very responsive to my requests and provides a comfortable atmosphere. I usually go to help work out the kinks I develop from cycling, hiking and running — so I can definitely recommend him for his therapeutic work. Also, they just added the option to add aromatherapy, so if you want major relaxation, that is now possible! In terms of price, Rory offers discounts all the time, so keep an eye out for those. I was able to score a free membership, and now schedule a massage once every 2 – 3 months at a crazy awesome discounted rate!
Rory really cares about his business, and only hires highly dedicated and professional therapists. I really enjoy supporting this local business, and I look forward to my next massage!

Saw Theresa today and oh my god! She was amazing. She hit places I didn’t even know we’re bothering me. I highly recommend going to her if you haven’t already.

I purchased a Living Social voucher hoping to at least get a satisfactory massage because my back and neck were in so much pain. I work a desk job and have a lot of trouble with both. I was in for a FABULOUS surprise because Coloradas at the Carondolet location was A-​MAZ-​ING! His pressure was right on and he really knew how to work AND stretch my tight muscles. I left feeling like a new human and will go back on a regular basis. The location was lovely and the room was nicely decorated and quiet. Best massage ever! Thanks for helping me Coloradas!

I found this place through Groupon and have been coming back since. I’ve seen Rory each time and I always leave feeling so good and relaxed. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a great massage. He is very attentive and knows how to work the kinks out. I give him a little bit of info on what’s going on and he always seems to know what to do.

Wow. I’m super impressed. According to the website, Megan is new having graduated in 2013 so my expectations were not very high. But it was for a groupon so I was ok with that. She was phenomenal. I’ve probably had 15 – 20 massages before and she is only the second person that has been able to apply enough pressure (continuously for 90 minutes! That’s some crazy finger strength!) for my liking. I just got home from my appointment and already feel so much better. Will definitely be back, and will be asking for Megan! :)

Rory is the best massage therapist I’ve experienced so far in Tucson — deep as you need it, tailored to my pain areas and a phenomenal all-​over massage. I also felt very comfortable with him — definitely a consummate professional.

This place is great! I had Theresa and she did a fantastic job. Nicely decorated space too. The only thing they need to do to get that fifth star is to put on groovy massage music instead of songs (Nora Jones, Jack Johnson, etc.) and to turn up the volume so I can actually hear it :)

I went and saw Rory often during my time playing college football and rugby. I needed anything but a basic massage, I seemed to always have injuries and serious aches and pains that come with the territory. Rory’s deep tissue work was fantastic and helped get me feeling better and back on the field in no time! The thing that I enjoyed most was the fact that he had the strength to get deep into the muscles and loosen things up when other therapists couldn’t.
I also got a pre-​game massage from Rory one time that I thought was awesome it really loosened things up and got blood flowing so by game time I didn’t feel the stiffness and soreness from the previous week of practice. Thanks Rory!

Another great massage! I found Rory through groupon and am now on a once a month schedule. I have been having chronic back issues and he is able to work on my specific needs while providing a relaxing massage. His prices are very affordable and he gives discounts if you come on a regular basis. His office is shared by other therapists but is always quiet any cozy feeling.
