History

Established in 2003.

Cornerstone Health and Family Practice was founded in 2003 by Dr Shawn Platt. Cornerstone was built on a desire to provide quality healthcare in a region of Tucson deficient of medical services being located on the outskirts of downtown Tucson. Our focus on individual healthcare instead of the corporate revolving door model led the practice to continual growth since it’s conception and now includes a complete medical staff of more than 12 employees.

Since it’s inception, Cornerstone Health and Family Practice has provided timely, quality healthcare to thousands of Tucsonans. We are proud to serve the Tucson community and provide above average medical care to families and individuals and look forward to serving you too!

I have been here twice: once a few months ago and yesterday morning. I discovered Dr. Platt on ZocDoc. Dr. Platt is sweet and quick to get me in and out of there (first appointment wasn’t so smooth… I was seen by a nurse practitioner). The only negative experience was a result of the front desk. The first time I went, I scheduled through ZocDoc and it said they accepted my insurance. Little did I know that the insurance had defaulted to my dad’s (I was helping him schedule appointments previously). I get to the office and realize what happened. The lady at the front says it is fine since they do accept my actual insurance. Cool beans, right? Show her my insurance card and I pay my copay and off we go. About a week later, I receive a letter saying my insurance actually wasn’t accepted by them and that I owed $ 200. BUT they were going to give me $ 100 off as a «courtesy». Seriously?
Anyways, I call my insurance to dispute it. Guess what? Dr. Platt’s office is in fact in my network and that front desk lady is clueless. She also had the nerve to tell me my insurance is not accepted at ANY medical establishment in Tucson. Wow right? Lol.
That caused me some stress. Dr. Platt is nice though so go see him. Do not trust the front desk with anything though.

Dr Platt is one of the best doctors around. He has a good bedside manner, my girlfriend who normally hates doctors looks forward to seeing him!

The nurse staff there is very disrespectful. They enjoy making remarks behind thin closed doors about how women enjoy their wellness exams.
If you go here for a first time examination looking to have questions answered in a professional manner, then you should look somewhere else. If you like feeling embarrassed and shamed for asking questions about routine exams then this is your place.
Thank you very much to the nursing staff here for setting the bar so low for the rest of Tucson’s hard working health care employees.

I am happy my mom is in the hands of Dr. Platt and his team here! They were able to squeeze my mom in this morning and still spend a quality amount of time with her unlike other doctors or PA I have experienced. Dr. Platt spent at least 20 mins with us — he greeted us very warmly and genuinely, he allowed me to share my moms history and symptoms that my brother wanted to make sure he knew, and with that he proceeded to a very thorough examination (a brief physical and a review of my moms medical history on his laptop).
Most doctors may step away into their office to type in notes, update their patient history, but how Dr. Platt was mobile and available to us while doing that allowed him to share, update, & check with my mom on her status with any red flags he had.
Lastly, middle of all this Dr. Platt stopped to get my mom a breathing treatment because he could hear just how bad my moms lungs were from the coughing. The care here is just so sincere and real — it felt like what a welcoming doctors office should be!
Only thing I could say bad is there isn’t enough smiling faces from the staff — but it’s tough caring for folks that are going to pass judgement! OVERALL — my mom loves coming here and I feel she is in good hands!

I love Dr. Platt. His office is not in a great neighborhood, but it is not a clinic. If you have concerns, they listen to them. He gives you alternatives to medicine if you do not like taking lots of medicine. The PA is no longer there, so it takes longer to get an appointment. Unfortunately, I found out today that my insurance UHC is no longer accepted by Dr. Platt. If you can get him as a doctor, then you are lucky…

This is a small, small office. There is one doctor and one PA. Very cozy feeling, the wait room is usually crowded. I have seen dogs waiting with the people in the waiting room and this pleases me.
I’m not confident that these guys could heal me if I had anything seriously wrong, but Dr Platt will happily write prescriptions for things like chapped lips and headaches.
